First I thought its a braai place, but was pleasantly surprised by the menu. Roosterkoek all different ways and very tasty. Stunning views, good food and great vibe. The prices are fair and you get value for money. Like they say, if you in a hurry for your food, then go to MCDONALDS.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon when it much much more relaxed than usual. We were so surprised at the friendly staff as well as the delicious food!If youre in Mossel Bay and feel like braaied meat...this is the place to go.The portions are generous, the flavour is great and the view of the bay is stunning.They also offer a local beer on tap for the beer enthusiasts.

I enjoyed the unique experience and atmosphere. I returned after leaving the day before because of frustration with poor parking facilities and being harassed by beggars. I ordered the lamb braai pack which was delicious. Value for money is good. For someone coming for the first time you need to order and pay at the kiosk at the entrance.

This was a great lunch experience. Awesome views of our beautiful coastline in Mosselbay. Our host really was on the ball in all regards and you could see this is his passion. Great food. I had the meat basket with ribs, chicken sosatie, and boerewors (great value for money). My wife had the lamb pot and the meat was cooked to perfection. Thanks for our great experience, we will be visiting soon again.

Try the hamburgers as they will fill you up. This is a great restaurant located at the waterfront not far from the museum. The outdoor seating area is cozy with an open fire and bar. The place is totally relaxing. Check it out.

A very causal cute little place right on the bay. With a rustic fisherman’s market theme. You can bring your own wine or buy drinks from them. The food a great and the views of the bay are wonderful.

What a place! really next to the sea! we thought we were in Hawaii. so different from a typical south african restaurant. Laid back and pretty run down but then it is totally charming in its own character. Read so much about it and so glad to find it at last.food at large portion and very reasonable price. very local in taste. we loved the braised lamb shank and also the biltong burger. Fantastic service also. the whole place has the atmosphere of a truck shack.

Best food on a fire we had in years. Relaxed vibe with a very warm welcome. On the beach. Doesnt get better than this.

This feels like a tropical island break in the harbour of a city. The host is the most colourful character full of friendly welcomes, jokes and stories. Expect great food on the braai, traditional dishes and cold beers. Views of the beach, marine life and harbour comings and goings. A very festive spot.

Really great roosterkoek and generous portions. The owner is such a legend, and makes the whole place feel so relaxed. Wonderful views, wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere. A MUST see if you are in the area!

Overall, excellent!! Great food. Great atmosphere. Great location. Roosterbrood is fresh and some of the best weve ever had. Halfway through dinner the owner walked around and told jokes and stories - very well received by the guests. (So good we went back the next day)

Located right next to the harbour, next to the ocean. This is a very casual place. Hands down my favourite place on earth. The service was friendly and helpful with a manager going round and checking that is well. The food was delicious, weve tried a few things on the menu, and we were not disappointed once. The setting is beachy and the view is amazing. Food is cooked on an open fire so everyone can enjoy the fire or see the cooks in action. The roosterkoek is the best Ive ever had and the are very reasonably priced. They will be seeing a lot more of me.

Great vibe, food and views. Rustic open air beach restaurant - expect sand between your toes and fresh food prepared on an open fire. Great spot to visit when in Mossel Bay. There is a small kids play area in the form of a boat in the shade.

Amazing time! When we got there the owner asked where we were from, then he came around the counter and explained the whole menu! He made a few jokes and was super friendly and nice. The food was very delicious and didn’t take too long to make! For all the things we got, it was very cheap. The location of the restaurant was just perfect! Overall one of the best restaurants I’ve been to!

My favorite experience of South African food was Kaai 4 Braai. Located in Mossel Bay, near to the Santos Express Train Lodge, it was an unexpected find for us. It wasnt an easy find, though, because we chose to walk we wound up going through several industrial parking lots, through gated vulcan fences, several dead-ends, until we found Kaai 4 Brai. We had no idea what to expect; all we knew was the place had many recommendations and was celebrated for authentic cuisine.The restaurant is spectacular! Its an outdoor dirt-floor space with open walls and many lamps, picnic benches, a bar building, and a big circular cooking pit. In the setting sun, the space and the incandescent light was magical.We got there early in the cooking time, so we were lucky enough to see the first wood being placed into the pit and the fires lit. It meant wed have to wait a while, but the staff and visitors made that time go quickly; more about that in a bit.The Kaai 4 menu is wide, from hot dogs and hamburgers to kebabs and spare ribs and things Ive never heard of, like Roosterkoek and potbread, though I did figure out what musselpot and braaied hake was.The staff was amazingly patient with us, explaining all the foods and their significance, as well as the history of the restaurant. Because we were early, and we love hanging around kitchen prep, we got to chat for a long time. Once the fires were hot we got recommendations based on what had ingredients had been delivered. Then we headed over to the pit to watch the cooking.I got the meat basket and roosterkoek, bread dough balls cooked on the grill. Carmella chose the braaid hake -- what I call en papillote -- with a wee salad.The food was so primal, so earthy, so delicious! Now I understand why South African expats fondly speak of braai! Equally wonderful was the conversation we had with the staff and the visitors, some of whom were locals, others were Free Staters; everyones accents were delightful to hear, and so completely different from each other! South Africans are a self-reliant lot, which comes out in their stories and world-views.We finished up our evening at Kaai 4 Braai stuffed, so much so that we chose to forgo some off-menu dessert. Kaai is high on my list of places to which I wish I could teleport for an evening, its that good.

Lekker local food experience in Mosselbay - roosterkoek and braaivleis. Doug your toes into the sand and enjoy the beautiful view and the authentic shabby beach bar atmosphere. Nothing fancy just friendly service, good roosterkoek and braaivleis. Normally n bit windy but worth the effort. We never miss an opportunity when we are down there to visit and enjoy the hospitality.
