My 4-star review focuses primarily on the coffee aspect. I really enjoyed the decaf cortado that I had. Although it is not primarily a coffee shop, the coffee is as good as Ive had around. I was not aware of the roast. Situated on the corner of the street, it is a nice walk in restaurant/café that has plenty of seating space. Within the restaurant/café is a clothing store and small bakery. The service is very good. The vibe is pleasant and friendly. There is a selection of food written on a chalk board that, upon observation, seems fresh and delicious. Service station to service your food and beverage needs, in a trendy, well positioned location in Melville. As a combined venue, I would give it 5-stars. For coffee shop exclusively, a great 4-stars.

For a 7h30 start with fabulous coffee, excellent service and the most beautiful views! The simple scrambled eggs and toast is tops! Love this spot! Lots of space, and very airy..

Service station in Melville has quite the reputation for being a great breakfast joint!I love me some breakfast!!!Unfortunately, because the restaurant was hyped up so much I found myself slightly disappointed by the overall experience.The waiters were inattentive, the wait for the food was longer than necessary (I believe), and the food wasn’t life changing. In terms of a vibe or a hub, it certainly has that down, but I’m just here for the food honey!It’s worth checking out if you are in the area.

Their breakfast was really incredible and the ambiance is relaxed and understated, typical to Mellville. A neighbouring bookstore and clothing store give it an artsy feel. Did not have strawberry or mango juice available. At one point the waiters were all congregating and chatting in one place which was disruptive.

This is my first review ever left on any platform because today I experienced the worst service ever!No need for long stories.I ordered two pancakes today from the Service Station with 1 normal filter coffee - price tag R148 ( including tip I paid R160) no menus availabe after asking the waiter TWICE is this for PANCAKES - YES !Feeling to ashamed to just walk out with my daugter, we paid and waited for our takeaway. Inside our takeaway box we found 3 burned FLAPJACKS with half a scoop off sugar in a small plastic tub just pop inside the box. What a rippoff!

One of my favourite spots for Nutella pancakes and coffee or French toast on a Saturday/Sunday morning. They have a cute little bookstore attached to the restaurant and the kids love it. The salmon eggs Benedict is lovely too.

Somewhat of an institution in Melville. The Service Station is a breakfast go-to spot. It’s reliable and their Eggs Benedict is delicious. Always newspapers on hand and their service is friendly and efficient. There is a gorgeous little book store connected to the restaurant which adds to the feel. The Service Station is always busy and has a great hum to it.

Beloved people enjoyed here, so being there is like perceiving a whiff of their gone selves. Too delicious and too painful all at once. The place is therefore, charged with emotion. For the normal visitor it is charming, dainty, warm, almost in danger of extinction at the very mouth of Melville. Good coffee.

Such a great find, unplanned breakfast but so happy we found this little gem...the most amazing and friendly staff and service...the most delicious Egg Benedict I have ever had, and I have had loads! Fabulous coffee and we couldn’t leave without having the carrot cake, yes for breakfast 😃 so happy we did, it was just an amazing dessert to end off the morning. Thank you!!!

Masks with staff and ventilation in the restaurant area are basically nonexistent. Staff is unfriendly and ignores customers.

Vibey Melville diner serves great breakfasts and sandwiches, and the carrot cake is the best youll ever taste. An additional attraction of the Service Station is that it leads right into the best little independent bookshop in Joburg, Love Books.

The environment is lovely and relaxing, however, the service is really slow and sloppy, waiters need some training in hospitality, consistent smiles, friendliness, efficiency and clear communication need to be concentrated on it this cafe. When someone orders, the clients shouldnt have to wait to wonder where their food is or have to ask the waiter for salt, pepper, knives, forks and sauces. Food is okay. This review is not based on one experience here but rather many experiences over two months.

As remembered fondly, the food was great! Vegan, Vegetarian or Omnivore, there is something for everyone. To return to speedily. Fresh and healthy.

Great lunch spot. Always enjoy the option of paying per plate where you can get a bit of everything. Salads are always nice and the quiches and lasagnas make you feel like you are sitting in moms kitchen at home.

Had a lovely breakfast there on Saturday. The food was tasty, service good and atmosphere warm and friendly. Had a lovely morning and will most certainly be back.

The service is as slow as a government run operation. One would think that after 20 years of sharing the love of food they would have learnt about efficient service. Average.

Great food and service

Been multiple times to this lovely spot. They serve tasty, simple, good food and service has always been good. At breakfast today received butter in old school single use plastic containers. Seems backward. And counter-intuitive when the store is filled with eco-friendly goodies. When mentioned, politely (with a potential solution in hand) to owner/managers we were treated dismissively and with sarcasm. The unnecessary passive aggressiveness over such a simple thing makes it highly unlikely well be back.

Used to be a garage and filling station in my student days - i think caltex - it turned out for the better now and apart from delicious meals and filling-up with coffee there are interesting little shops within the complex

This establishment has been around a long time now, and is supported for good reason. food is consistently good and of good value. staff is friendly and helpful.

One of my all time favourites since it has opened its doors about 15 years ago. Harvest table serves lush, good quality and fresh salads, quiches and the odd lasagne (the vegetable pasta bake is very satisfying 😉). Consistent good quality food. The expanded deli is a delight for any foodie.

The food was really good! The lost a star for the high prices! And the other lost star is for the waiters that seemed more interested in having a social gathering than serving the patrons. Not sure that I’ll go back.

Food is excellent and the service is always good. The seating is uncomfortable, and when the place is full, its very noisy. So not a place to go for a quiet conversation.

Extremely cold welcome, you feel like you are displeasing them by going there. It gets worse if you order just a cappuccino and a glass of water. At 16.30 (the place closes at 5) they start clearing and snatching half full glasses under your nose. I wanted to stay a bit longer, but felt like the seat was burning....

Lovely spot for breakfast or lunch, their buffets are healthy and delicious. Good vibe, often busy, no need to reserve tables. There are some lovely shops around this restaurant in the centre and across the road, including the adjacent Love Books which has a good selection of books and magazines, and host many book launches.

Good place to meet a friend. Coffee great. I like the book store attached.

Always go there for the Harvest Table. Its good, fast and convenient. However, coffee not great... Suggestion: check the salad ingredients if you dont eat coriander like me.

One of the best meals weve had for ages. We had the roast veg and halloumi salad and the curried chicken mayonnaise salad and loved them both. Great service and an inspired wine list too.

Wonderful spot! Absolutely delish breakfast and a phenomenal harvest table. The space is quirky and inspirational. The deli and speciality kitchen shop is well stocked and has good quality items at good prices. Parking is possibly the only funny / slightly challenging thing here but its not really something they can control or change.

Service station and the entire Bamboo Centre is a delight. Only one thing for Service Station. I looked in their deli section and a packet of dried figs was R55.00. Looked at the rest of deli and came back to purchase. In 3 minutes they had gone up to R95.00. Not the first time this has happened in deli section. It will be last time for sure.

One of the best breakfasts Ive ever had.Scrambled eggs with onions on a crispy croissant with a side of avo. They made it perfectly. Scrambled eggs were out of this world.A+
