What a gem. An old gem, been around since 1975, and still getting things right. Attentive waiters, friendly place as a whole, delicious shellfish, all in all, a lovely experience.We had their seafood platter, (shared it amongst two of us) and then next weekend we went back with friends for prawns (added half portion calamari) and it was really very good.I dropped my card under the table after paying, the cleaner found it that night, when they closed -> they phoned my bank, leaving their contact details - kept it for me till I was in the area again.In this day and age, that says a lot, ....

I like this restaurant. The decor is fun and inviting. The food is great- I’ve been battling to find good prawn cakes lately and theirs are superb! Warm, crispy Portuguese rolls and a good cappuccino.I must admit though - getting there at night is a hair raising experience, it’s really scary. I wish they were in a different area and it’s the reason I don’t go often

Nice vibey place, different from what we normally go for. Was lucky to be there during an awesome live performance. Portuguese kind-a food, not my cup of tea. They were a bit blend hardly enjoyed anything on the sea food platter. Forgot to take pics even

Great selection of really good value for money seafood. It was an old police station in the early 1950s. Great selection of wines and desserts. Wonderful decor.

For a restaurant that everyone raves about, I was a little disappointed. My cut of meat in the trinchado was very chewy, almost to the point where it was inedible. Asked for it to be medium rare - also basically got well done. For the prices charged per meal you can get much better quality (in my opinion) others seemed to have enjoyed their meals, therefore an average score would do

Being your appetite! The lobster tails with sauce were delish. And Bongani, the server, is very attentive.

High Quality food. Everything cooked/grilled to perfection. Fresh and succulent. Portions are large-couldnt finish. We took doggy bags. Awesome and friendly waiters. It is situated in a not so nice area BUT there are car guards outside. Dont be put off with area. The food is really outstanding and a must try!

Not much has changed since it was the La Rochelle Beer Hall. But the well-used furnishing, strange collection of neckties, and higgeldy-piggeldy arrangement of dining areas all add to the charm.Only restaurant Ive been to where the smoking section is bigger than the non-smoking.Food is authentically Portuguese and everything weve had there has been excellent. Prawns are of course the speciality.A bit out of the way in a suburb that has seen better days, but well worth the schlep to get there.

We arrived without a booking, the restaurant was already busy at 7:30 but seating was available in the non-smoking section. My wife and I shared a portion of chicken livers with rolls as starters then my wife had steak trinchada and I had the T-bone steak. Service was excellent, our waiter Malusi, was very helpful and could discuss items on the menu, the food arrived quickly and was good and hot. Neither of us could finish our meals and are looking forward to lunch tomorrow - all in all the best meal Ive had in a cell. The restaurant used to be the sixth street police station, the main dining area was the charge office with the non-smoking off to the side in what was the holding cells🤔

If you havent been, then you should consider taking a visit.Yes its not in the best area, but go for lunch you wont be disappointed. Its authentic Portuguese food thats been family run all these years. The restaurant is filled with Ties hanging from the ceilings which adds a quirkiness to it.We decided to go back for a visit, and had a proper indulgent afternoon. Starting off with their Portuguese rolls and Peri peri sauce. I had the Garlic Snails for starters, and then the Chicken and Prawn Combo for mains as I couldnt decide. It was soo good, the flavours on my chicken were yummy. Everyone else had the Prawn Rissoles for starters, and then the Trinchado and Beef Fillet for mains, along with the Seafood Skewer which is quite an eye catcher. All the food was on point, you couldnt fault anything, and still as food as our last visit.To end off our meal I ordered the Cape Velvet Coffee, its been ages since I had Cape Velvet and thoroughly enjoyed it.Our waiter Francis was lovely, such great sense of humour and service with a smile. Oh my!! This place over exceeded my expectations. Need to feed your seafood craving? Need that coastal fresh seafood feel? This has to be the place in Johannesburg. I remember when we arrived at the restaurant, me and my partner looked at each other and started laughing at how it looked from the outside. We walked in got great service from the waiter oh my as soon as that food got to our table... I was speechless and my mouth watered.

Love this place. Best food in the South. Friendly waiters which means exceptional service. Large portions of great food.

This place really has great character. The food is amazing. I had the prawn cake which was tasty and full of flavor. The prawns were cooked to perfection and came with chips and rice. The waiter was friendly and helpful when suggestion what to have. Good job Moses. I would recommend this place. I suggest you call and make a reservation.

Absolutely fantastic! Just saw a 1 star review of a lady that tasted prawns for the first time, however, in her expert opinion it was raw and tasteless 😆 Guess everyone is entitled to their opinion- therefore my 5 STARS

It was my first time eating prawns today, and I can gladly say it is definitely the last. They were tastless and tasted too raw.

Food and atmosphere was absolutely awesome! Best Portuguese restaurant Ive ever been to. The waiters are friendly. We had the chicken and salad, trinchado with cheese sauce and chips is a must and the espitada was so juicy and soft. We had the prawn cakes as starters and it was amazing. Will definitely recommend this restaurant. It is located in a dodgy area and parking can be difficult to find however that being said there are car guards and security so your car is fine.

The food is great!! The prawns and calamari were just perfect!! Its a very popular spot and very informal. I loved the ties hanging everywhere. It was very busy, but the staff were all very friendly and helpful. There is a lack of parking so make sure you catch a ride if you are going at peak times.

A booking here is a must. T is a vety poplar restuarant in La Rochelle. Reasonably priced with a variety of Portuguese Wines and some S.A. wines well priced. It is a great une for an easy lunch. Make sure you are hungry when you come here. Servings are quiet big and scrumptious. A true taste of Portugal.

I rather do a take away than eat in. The food was great but the service was bad. Ignored to a point we wanted to leave and take-away our food.
