The atmosphere is amazing, situated on the outside court with inside seating. The drinks menu has a wide variety so does the food menu. The staff were welcoming, helpful, following all covid regulations. The food is amazing

Great tasting food. Spot on starters, will a big tray of chicken livers, squid tubes,chourico sausage.I had the Prego and chips. Warning, it comes with crisps. I was told this was the Portuguese way. Well that was a first for me.Had to ask my wife for some salad.Otherwise, everyone enjoyed the meals.

Arrived at restaurant was greeted and seated promptly, drinks order was taken, drinks were fine and my cocktail was enjoyable. Was given fresh bread rolls while waiting for meal, ordered a Chicken and Calamari combo (1/2 chicken, deep fried calamari) bear in mind she asked if I wanted the calamari grilled or fried and I was not asked what sauce I wanted for the chicken. The food arrived and they got the order wrong and gave me chicken and prawn combo, I told her I ordered the chicken and calamari and she just stared at me. Hesitated to send the meal back, because at the time I was starving and the prawns looked good even tho it wasn’t what I ordered. Proper cutlery wasn’t given for some of the meals and no bowl to put shells in. Overall the food was great but the service could do a lot better.

What an incredible meal... Insane value for money... Esquisite flavour and portions. Unbelievable menu especially for the date night special and rounded off a dinner with the most incredible woman I could ever pray for.... Its a place with a special warmth. The food is great, especially the pasteis de nata (I simply love pastel de nata).

Shocking. The only thing they didnt do wrong was the chicken, we had a Portugese steak, chicken livers and an espetada and they were all either cold or over cooked.

Pre show dinner and a catchup with my friend. I couldnt believe how quiet Monte Piazza was, considering it was a Friday night. Think everyone stayed away due to the storms.We sat outside enjoying the fresh air, yet just covered enough to avoid the rains. Our waiter Malusi was fantastic, he knew we were taking our time with ordering in between all our chatting.Lovely setup inside and out and they have a vast variety of food on their menu. For starters we ordered the Pan fried Prawns in a beer sauce, Prawn Rissoles and the Flamed up Chourico. My prawns needed a bit of spice so added their chilli sauce to it. The Chourizo was nice, not too tough to chew.For drinks I had to try their Sangria, I havent had one in a long time. They sell a 500ml for just a mere R45... I mean seriously thats a steal. 2 people can easily drink from it. Be aware of the fruit after a while, it has a kick.When we told Malusi we going to the show, he showed us a separate menu that they have for people attending the show, so its alot quicker to order. I think thats a brilliant idea. We ordered the Prego rolls, 1 Beef and 1 Chicken to share with round cut chips. The chips were delicious, the chicken prego was juicy and tender but needed more sauce. Absolutely amazing! Im very pleased with PortuGalo Montecasino.The food was more than outstanding. Truly reflects the portuguese cuisine.The staff and Manager are friendly always making sure we were comfortable and satisfied. Best service I was given thus far.I highly recommend this restaurant.

Worst restaurant experience ever, we never saw our waiter for an hour after arriving, hour long wait for starters that came to us burned (prawn risoles). When they re-did the risoles it was flash fried so the insides were still cold. Calamari main was served to us raw, completely pink inside!! Fried hake main was oily and unappetising. And last but not least the chicken prego was the driest Ive ever seen in my life, no sign of sauce. Never going back there again.

Overall, my experience at this restaurant was nothing more than okay.Sat down and ordered the rump, egg and chips and from ordering to where you receive your meal is a lengthy process. Once I started eating, the waiter came to the table to check if everything was still alright and if I was enjoying my steak and I informed him that the steak was bad so he insisted on changing my meal which I appreciated but when the manager came to the table he explained how they made the steak and why one would think it doesnt have enough flavour. Ive had enough steak during my lifetime to be able to identify a bad piece of steak based on taste, quality and tenderness. Let me tell you, this steak was tough!I replaced it with the pork chops and potatoes as I was not informed that the steak came with crispy chips which I am personally not a fan of but for all intents and purposes, they were okay.Generally, everything else on the table was okay, nothing to write home about, ironically, but if I had to face the question of would I go here again or go to Spur rather, Id most likely choose the latter.Thumbs up for the friendly waiter, good location and killer pork chops but the rest of the experience was a fail.

Horrific experience last night.My Husband and I woke up this morning and even had a chuckle as to what we experienced last night at this place.We were the only customers in the resturant at the time last night.The staff was making a noise and shouting at each other at the top of their voices.We could hear the kitchen staff all the way from our table.So much so that I complained to the waiter.It went quiet for a while then started getting noisy again.The food was frankly a waste of money.My husband and I both ordered tomato rice with our meals and the rice was absolutely disgusting.We both didnt eat it.It was over cooked and soggy and had an almost fermented taste.Tasted like leftovers of the day of which we told the manager regarding this.The only good point was their cocktails other than that,Truly its R800 that went down the drain.Dont waste your time!P.S.I thought I should come back and edit this.Decided to give them another chance on Sunday.We waited a whole 15mins just for a menu that didn’t come,then got up and walked to the restaurant opposite.Not worth it!

Only good thing about this place is the location on the piazza. Took too long for the food. Got order wrong( my rump was overcooked, heavily salted and swimming in sauce)My mom ordered 12prawns in a lemon and herb dressing- got a tomato dressing) ordered the salad and that was horrid- your house dressing needs to be fixed. Wont see us again.

Fantastic atmosphere. I had the prawns and was offered extra LM sauce by the chef himself to add a little extra pizazz to the fish. My husband had the seafood platter and all of the food was cooked to perfection. The service was on point, very friendly and efficient. We will definitely be coming here again. Excellent job with the new revamped menu.

Incredible food!

I think the best thing about this restaurant is its location near to where kids can play in the water feature. Had the calamari/chicken livers/chourico starters and some chips and would not really recommend any of these dishes.Perhaps the mains are better but I didnt stick around to find out.Portugese rolls were really good though.

The restaurant definitely has a good feel and great traditional decor. I ordered the peri peri chicken, and it was absolutely brilliant, taste, texture and presentation all on par with the price. However a major problem I had was the very poor service, as good as the food was, it still wouldn’t attract me to go back.

This place ruined my evening!You have to train your staff properly. They dont even know how to serve Martini Bianco!They brought it in shot glass like for vodka!After I asked them many times to bring it in martini glass they brought dirty glass. I showed them that the glass is absolutely dirty and this is in pandemic time! Then I asked to bring double shot martini but got just 50ml despite the fact menu says 1 shot is 50 ml.After all we got the bill for 2 shots..Waiter bring the machine and after I put PIN the waiter said there is no connection, we left cash on the table and went out. After we got home we got sms saying that transaction was successful.So we paid for this terrible service double price :(Terrible experience ever. Never go there!Dont waste your money, dont spoil your weekend mood.

Very pleasant experience. Quaint relaxed vibe quite enjoyed my time there. I would rate the food a 4 to 4.5 star. The Waiter was also pretty good 4 stars for him. Cocktails are great here 5 stars for taste and generous portion . Nice spot keeping true to its Portuguese roots but with a nice modern twist to it. When Im back at Monte again Ill definitely try some of the other dishes.

Its a good restaurante, with a super frendly and helpfull staf. We can feel the portugueses vibe on the decoration altough the food its not always the original One, but is tasty and good. I order a Portugues Burguer and the sea food soup and its was really good. I recommed that restaurante.

Wasnt impressed at all. This was not our first visit but will be our last. Over time we have noticed the service and food has been getting worse which is so said considering this used to be our go to restaurant in fourways. The portions have become a complete joke, the beer on tap is always flat, the quality of the food isnt anything to rave about and the service could be better. We have been with u guys from the start and we have noticeded a big change. A disappointing change.

Surprisingly much better than the reviews. We had a great meal, including delicious chicken and bread. There is a great drinks menu on offer as well as a good vegetarian selection on the menu. The decor is contemporary and inviting. The service was brilliant and the waiter was extremely attentive.

What a pleasant dining experience. From being seated in record time to having our drinks order delivered within minutes. The steak was absolutely delicious, tender and succulent. I ordered rare and it was perfect. My wife ordered the prawns and she says it was one of the best that she has had. For a great evening out I would recommend this place.

If I could give a minus star rating I would. This has to be the worst restaurant in Johannesburg. Horrible food. Had the prawn and peach salad, the salad leaves were wilted, the four prawns on the salad were so overcooked that I couldnt get it out of the shells. The peaches were tinned and not fresh, so basically mushy. My husband had a pork loin with clams, and it was tasteless, the pork was boiled and the dish was watery.Another big negative was that they literally placed a smoking table next to a non-smoking table. This is unacceptable and against legislation.PortuGalo will never see us again.

Excellent food. Nice staff but the ambience is awful. In winter and on cooler evenings the restaurant is cold and miserable. When it is really cold you are directed upstairs. Why bother the upstairs is as miserable as the downstairs. Decided we giving up going there as we cannot sit In a cold drafty restaurant regardless of the quality of the food.

The restaurant definitely has a Portuguese vibe to it- the decor and music creating a beautiful atmosphere and they have upstairs seating for those who would like to really escape. The menu is suitable for kids as well. I really appreciated that they told us that the food would take 30-45min to prepare (and it came a little before that just by the way). The food itself was filling but not quite as flavorful as I wouldve expected and a little under seasoned. The desserts are amazing. Dont leave without trying it. They have a good cocktail and wine selection available. Their staff are super friendly and helpful. The venue is not very wheel chair friendly however. Suitable for groups, families and nights out for two.

The food was ok. The meat was not cooked to my specification, but it was tasty. The mousse was not fluffy, but it was yummy. The hot sauce was in short supply (there seemed to be only 1 bottle being passed from table to table) but it was flavorful. This restaurant has potential to be great... but not sure Id rush to go back.

So excited to eat Portuguese food but was highly disappointed. Service was not good and 3 out of the 4 meals was NOT worth the money.. Chicken and prawn curry was OK but both my kids disliked their food from kids menu. Not recommended, especially for price they charge!

We had different seafood meals and the seafood platter. Unfortunately none of the meals were good. They were greasy, dry and over cooked. Just disappointing. Unfortunately the service was just as bad, waited long times before anything arrived, no condiments on table. I’d not recommend this place out of the many options at Monte Casino, you’d get better value for money at Ocean Basket.

Rather just close your doors. Steak was so so tough and cold, the other steak didnt even arrive. Took over an hour to arrive and it was always coming in 2 minutes. All the tables around us just got up and left, youre lucky we even paid. Only after everyone else had their terrible meals did you inform one of us (who hadnt received their food yet) that suddenly the veggies were finished and hed have to order something else. Shocking restaurant.

Terrible place , terrible service. I will not recommend this place to anybody. I went there for my birthday . Firstly we did not get complimentary bread rolls. I had the steak but they did bring a steak knife, so i ate it with the bread knife. My wife had the chicken and prawn curry and got terribly sick. It rained and the rain gushed through the roof onto our table before we left. And lastly the waiter still insisted we give a minimum 10% tip. Total waste of time and expense.Reagan.

Literally the worst experience Ive had at a restaurant for a long time! The service was shocking, we had to call a few waiters to eventually get our drinks and we waited for over an hour for our food. The codfish was not bad but we were overcharged & when we queried this with the manageress, she was rude and obnoxious! She obviously has no people skills!! I will definitely not be setting foot in this restaurant again!

Terrible food, terrible service.Started with rolls straight from the freezer.... at R5 per roll....Greasy and over salted food is eventually served.Count yourself lucky if your wine is cold or if they have any ice buckets.... we werent so lucky and our wine was served warm.Avoid it. Its not worth it.No managers to be seen and complaints are ignored.

Disappointing meal and visit. Got served a fish that was so off it smelt, brought it to the managers attention and she did not even bother to come over and apologize. Table of 10 with 3 complaints, not a good hit rate.

Terrible food and service. We ordered the seafood platter for 2 and a few tapas starters.The platter was rubbish, the prawns were over cooked and every else was tasteless and portions were small for the price you pay.

Legitimately the worst experience I’ve had at a Portuguese restaurant.Ordered the Espetada and got 4 pieces of over cooked, reheated and tough meat for R165.00. I do not recommend this place. I definitely won’t be going back.

Lovely afternoon out at PortuGalo Montecasino. I brought my Aunt from the states for lunch! Delicious beer battered hake and pork and bean stew! Got to try the deep fried polenta! Mmmm! And Chef Claudio whipped up this “Zagga-Zagga” sauce as he calls it! Deeeeelicious!

We went for drinks before watching a show. I ordered a Don Pedro. While enjoying it a solid piece came into my mouth. Without thinking a bit down on it only for it to splinter into pieces and for me to realize it was glass. When the glass was shown to the manager I was told it happens due to the dishwasher and the guys have been told to look out for glass in the future. I was offered either a new one or for a refund but only for the Don Pedro. Needless to say we will never return.

Had the peri peri chicken, was delicious however the chips were cold. In our group, others had the seafood platters and some pasta, all was quite good. Service was a bit slow but friendly. All around good experience contrary to some reviews. I hope service and consistency sharpens. Good for couples and good for groups. Situated in Montecasino so theres a ton of things to do!

If you want a totally disappointing experience this is the restaurant for you! Terrible service and mediocre food. A medium burger was charred on the outside and raw inside. Chicken salad that was so bland it defies description. They do not deserve to be in business.

Full chicken portion was very small, menu item should change to read Baby Chicken. Poor value, compared to places like Calistos. What a waste of a good location, staff congregates in a corner, lowsy service and overall very disappointing...

Poor management. Undercooked chicken resulting in Salmonella food poisoning. Chef could not provide reasoning for undercooked chicken that was served in 15mins opposed to the claimed 30-40 mins on the menu. Pathetic customer service, complaints not taken seriously. Portion of chicken was not as indicated. Definitely not a restaurant to go to!!!
