This is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Johannesburg. I visited the place with couple of polish friend in November 2019. We ordered some vegetarian starters and main course (both veg and non-veg). I would not say that I am very impressed with the food. My polish friends liked the food. I was bit disappointed with the food quality and use of species in the food. Hope the chef will try to provide authentic Indian tastes

Excellent service! Unlike most who have become complacent, The restaurant still fully complies with Covid-19 requirements. The food is sumptuous and served in generous portions.

I have eaten here before and the portions and quality of food is consistent and very tasty.The ambiance, service and whole experience Is ideal for a business or leisure outing with friends.The menu is extensive and everyone from Vegans to meat eaters will have plenty to choose from

One of the best dining experiences ever. From the welcome drink to the delicious kulfi for dessert. Brilliant staff recommending each dish. Certainly not an expensive restaurant, definitely worth another visit

I am not a fan of this restaurant.All their food in my opinion taste like coconuts- its all the same, sweet and creamy.Whilst I love those flavours, in a curry you expect more flavour, complexity and texture.Its like eating different named deserts, which uses the same base and calling it curry.If you enjoy it, Im glad you do, but for me personally, its a no.

Food is great (compared to other indian restaurants). We got so disappointed with our local indian restaurants , that I drove extra distance to get food from here. While such a touch above the others , feels like something has changed (hence the 4 stars) - maybe it was just the chefs night off.

Our first 💕 dinner date 💕 since the beginning of lock-down. Pre-dinner health check was quick and easy.Restaurant wasn’t very busy, and as usual, the service was on point. Waiters and management were attentive and friendly. The background music was light and relaxing. Portion sizes are generous, especially the pre-dinner snack. The food was of a high quality, especially the butter naan, thin and crispy and buttery. The lamb chops were tender and tasty. The flavor in the lamb chops masala was delicious, spicy and rich. And to top it off, the sooji and kulfi ice-cream was rich and creamy. All in all, a wonderful meal with great ambience.

Not up to the mark. People who likes spicy as me. Dont go for this restaurant.Ambience is very good.

Very nice indian restaurant. A large variety of dishes on the menu from veg, chicken, lamb and seafood. No beef is served. The service is excellent, toilets are clean. I enjoyed my meal but a bit disappointed with the desserts.

Cant fault this place at all, they have such great meal options, their food is amazing, great service every time. And of course their prices for portions that can be shared are more than reasonable. If youre fan of Indian food, Id recommend it over and over.

The food was lovely, I loved the hot chicken tandoori I ordered and my boyfriend had lamb shank what what😂cant remember the name... the service was great and we had a cozy and wonderful time there ..will definitely go back😊

This is our fourth visit here. Very spacious and can accommodate a lot of people. Service is tops and cannot complain. We were a family of 5 and my everyone enjoyed their dishes. Portions are good and food is delish. I just had a problem with the idli and soji which I found to be bland.Would I recommend Thava - yes I would indeed.

Love love loved it. Would recommend it. I had starters and vegetable akhni. Service was friendly and the chef came round to say hello. But the food was top. All the flavours worked. Price was reasonable. Parking is secure at the back. Loads of veggie options and the restaurant was packed with people and celebrations.

Always a great place to have an excellent curry. And it’s really nice to sit there too. The prices are getting a bit steep though, which sometimes leads us elsewhere.

Was feeling for a good lamb breyani and being in the area for an appointment, decided to drop in at Thava for lunch. Great set up and top notch ambience but the lamb breyani fell woefully short of my expectations. If youre used to authentic South African style breyani, then this was a very poor attempt at replicating it, after all breyani is a sequence of preparations steps that makes it so special. Here they merely threw in some not so great lamb curry in spicy rice and called it breyani ! Sorry but you will find better quality and value elsewhere.

Food is freshly prepared. The wait is worth it. Food was Divine.

Oh wow, where to begin? This restaurant had parking with security, thats the first tick :) then we were welcomed like old friends, service is impeccable!!! Food...... Well, if you love curries, this is definitely the place to eat, shew! Chevra on the table was stunning and fresh, then we had the Korma lamb and Lamb Marsala curries, absolutely divine, meat tender sauces just as we like them, and prices are extremely competitive, well done Thava!!

Thava is well-loved by Joburgers, and for good reason. One taste of their amazing food and you will be hooked. Staff are always friendly and the value for money is insane.

Thava is a great place if your looking for a quieter restaurant to eat at with impeccable food. My husband and I came here for the first time on our anniversary... and it did not disappoint. The service was incredible, we had 3 different people ask us if the meal was okay and if we were happy. The presentation of the food was great. And just overall a great place. My husband had the new crab curry and he thought it was Devine. I had the prawn curry and that was also amazing!! The only thing is that even the medium heat for me was way too hot, so if you have a weaker pallet just ask for extremely mild! If you’re a vegan or vegetarian there are also a lot of those options on the menus as well!Thank you Thava for an amazing experience, will be seeing you soon!

I have eaten here many times. The food and service is always brilliant. Ordered takeaway through Uber eats and the food was still brilliant. My wife and I have tried most of the menu and havent found anything we disliked.

Fabulous traditional food served in either full or half portions. I have to add that they have been extremely generous since the start of lockdown, their kitchen remained open from day 1 to feed the needy and from there Chefs with Compassion was born. Hats off to the owner Matthew for being the gentleman that he is.

I was invited to a dear friends birthday and I want to go back - but my hips wont let me. 😏The naan was the best Ive tasted. Watch out for the strong curry - it has a vicious bite 🤣 The range of dishes were excellent and very tasty. They cater for vegetarians 👏 Please book and make an occasion of it. Great value for money and wonderful ambience.

Heavy accent and rapid speech of waiter was unnerving at first. Excellent quality service quickly settled in and I had the best meal in years.We are now regulars. Eating our weekly treat.They offer Tapas size, and full size. I strongly suggest sharing several Tapas to experience variety and the craft of great yummy alternatives.

Food in the evenings are much better prepared than food during the day. The ambiance in the evening is very romantic and great for family and friends. The service is tops, and food is amazing! Very reasonably prices. I suggest you call and book a table before arriving, and get there early for parking. Saturday nights its usually full.

Delicious food!! I dont like food that is too spicy and there were plenty of options for me and even more options for my friend who are vegetarian. The guys were brave and opted for the hot option and boy did they get what they asked for! Everybody loved their food.

Ambience is good. Food during the day is not all that great but food in the evenings is really good. You have good options to choose from if you are a vegetarian. Restaurant is in a decent location and it does offer reservations.The serving is really good and it does offer good desserts.It is a good place to go with a group or a family.

This place is like a cigarette. The more you have the better. Amazing everything! Woke up the next morning crying to all the gods at once asking for forgiveness on the toilet though. Nonetheless 11/10.- Adam Kamyk on the toilet.

Favourite Indian restaurant. I love their keralan food as well. We dine here regularly. Their fish fry and fish biryani are especially good. There has seldom been a dish that we did not enjoy and the quality of ingredients is exceptional.

Always a winner. I am addicted to butter chicken, and i love the one they serve at Thava. I should really try different currys , next time i will defenetly do that.
