Lamb bunnys curry was overcooked or seemed as old curry reheated.Veg Soya burger patty was dry as if it were deep fried till crisp.Bombay Crush is tasteless served in a Martini glass for R35.00..... what a rip off.The free parking is a bluff, unless you ask them, then you get a R5.00 in return....

This was one of those places for me where I had good child hood memories, of taking a trip with my parents on a . Saturday to go and have lunch. We always enjoyed the proper authentic food. My favourite was always the prawn curry and rice. Incredibly spicy, and the way I liked it, even at age 12. Yesterday we visited The Golden Peacock at the Oriental plaza and placed an order for Mutton Bunny, prawn curry (of which I was told in order to get a decent portion of curry and prawns I would need to buy the rice separately) and we ordered a hamburger for my son. This was a takeaway meal. We got home in 15 minutes of buying the food to have lunch. We were very disappointed. The Mutton bunny was a piece of hard bread, with a small container shoved in the middle with very little Mutton curry in it. I believe this was a deconstructed bunny, which is new thing that some places do... My opinion... DONT DO IT. When you buy a bunny its suppose to come filled to the top with curry and meat and if not a massive potato in the middle, then at least few small pieces. This didnt even fill the small piece of bread . The bread was hard, even when trying to heat for a few seconds to try and make it softand my husband could not eat it. Now to the prawn curry I was so looking forward to. Well, again, there goes a great child hood memory. The prawns were rubbery, the curry had no spice and it tasted like a sour tomato gravy. If I wanted tomato chutney I would have made it myself. My sons hamburger was not worth R50 I am sorry. The patty was very small and not cooked properly. I had to re cook it at home so my child could eat it. Based on past reviews you say you cater for the masses and its hard to find just the right mix of spices. In my opinion you got it right the first time many years ago. Not sure what changed. The standard has gone down from What I remember and the food was nothing like what I remember . I wasted money at your establishment yesterday and very disappointed in What we bought. The Golden Peacock has been open for as long as I can remember. With what we got yesterday, it was very disappointing.

Waited an hour for Briyani then was told they cant make because there are only bones in the Briyani. 5 minutes later they say they can serve it. The Briyani was just lamb and rice the waiter did not care much my complaints. Wasted R250 for so called Briyani. Never again

Make sure you ask how many prawns are in the curry. 6 prawns will cost you R155.Bombay crush is Pink milk with chia seeds. The manager didnt seem to think 6 prawns was too little. And the Bombay crush nor the prawn curry tasted nice. Wont ever go back.If only I had read the other reviews.

Where in this world do you pay different prices on the sit in menu compered to the take away Menu? I paid R25 for an appetizer, then when I go and swipe at the counter and see the price on the fridge says R17. And since when do you claim your food is halaal when you serve booze at your restaurant. Dont waste your time at this place it is definitely not worth it.

The atmosphere was dull, the music played was so outdated. My experience was very unpleasant. The food was extremely spicy, two days later still suffering from reflux. The meat had so much fat, it would off nice been if the meat was trimmed of excess fat, naturally the gravy would be fatty. The bread was hard and stale. Unfortunately it was my first time and my last eating at Golden Peacock. The prices are too high, considering the quality of food been served. Highly disappointed.

The food is quite tasty, but it was expensive for the portions served. I ordered the chicken rotis wrap and it was filled with bones, which is in contradiction to what you would expect from a wrap. The plate of chips we ordered had some chips that were undercooked, and the portion was relatively small for the price. The cappuccino was very lack luster - if you like your coffee, avoid this.If you are visiting the oriental plaza, this restaurant does have amazing Samoosas, so I suggest order a bunch of those and snacking, rather than having a sit down meal.

Honestly cannot understand some of the negative reviews. After visting many Indian restaurants i would say this one is a must. The home style cooking beats most resturant style curries. Definitely worth trying.

The manager/owner of this restaurant is unbelievably rude and has ZERO customer service skills. We purchased 5 curries from the restaurant and when we got home , noticed that the food was bubbling (this was a mere three hours after purchasing the food). We call the restaurant to notify them of the state of the food. The manager, in an abrasive , rude and dismissive manner, accuses ME of tampering with the food because they ‘have never had an issue like this before’, and then puts the phone down before I’m done speaking. I then head to the restaurant to return the food and get a refund. The manager would not allow me to speak , still insisting that I had messed with the food and totally dismissed what I had to say. DISGUSTING SERVICE AND DISGUSTING FOOD

Extremely disappointed!!!Was so looking forward to revisiting wonderful great food memories of years gone by at this restaurant. My Lamb (that which I could find - bones were in plentiful supply) was tougher than leather, much of it totally inedible.Ridiculous price of R115 for pathetic excuse of a meal.Unbelievable - they charged an additional R30 for carrot & chutney condiments! What a pity, this restaurant used to be up with the best of Johannesburg curry eateries.Todays experience ensures I will never return.

Pathetic service. Owner treats customers like they are wrong. She also doesnt care to listen. She blames the staff as opposed to taking accountability for problems. Never go there. They are horrible. Found foil in the food. She said that it was acceptable. Wow

Excellent samoosas (especially the cheese and onion) but quite disappointing quarter mutton bunny - bread was dry and very little meat on the bones. Saving grace was the extra gravy on the side. The mince roti looked like a far better choice.

Went in today for lunch and received the worst service and most disappointing food ever.We initially ordered a chicken and mutton breyani... it reached us tasteless. It was a very bland vegetable breyani mixed with meat. What is worse is that it cost almost R120/plate.We couldnt stomach the food so we ordered a chicken curry with rice and a mutton bunny. The chicken curry was OK but the mutton bunny had 3 almost empty bones and was not filled as a proper bunny chow should be. DISAPPOINTING!!!!The owner of the store knew of the incident and NOT ONCE apologised. They charged us for all meals and took it amongst themselves to add a tip. Very presumptuous!!!I am utterly disgusted by this! Will never return to this restaurant and definitely not recommend them.
