Very disappointing customer service. I enjoyed my stay there, but my card was charged three times instead of once for the soweto tour (I payed for my friend and I). Accidents happen, but I asked for a refund the very same day. Months later: still nothing. There is email contact, but I am starting to lose faith in their promise. It was a lot of money.Staff, I really enjoyed my stay and hope this is going to be fixed because it is the only negative aspect of your hostel. I am beyond disappointed.

Awesome place for a drink with a friend, they had some really fun performances from such a variety of artists and great DJs on the evening. Beautiful view of the afternoon sun setting over the Joburg CBD horizon from their balcony.

Lovely quiet and warm place which is perfectly situated in Maboneng. Staff are friendly and always keen to help and they make a really good cappuccino.

We enjoyed a pleasant two night stay in the loft. Friendly staff, a really comfy bed & a well stocked bar... And lots of plants adding to the old school inner city charm. Will definitely come back

The rooms are nice and practical, a big public area and the chance to discover local nightlife lies right in front of your doorstep. Great place to meet internationals and locals. The bar is a place where international and locals hang out with each other. The vibe was really chill. Staff is helpful and always in for a chat. The hostel offers a full program for the week for you to choose from. Their guides are very knowledgeable and eager to tell you more about Joburg.

Nice place and bedrooms (was in a female dorm). Activities and city tours are good. Only the kitchen could be a little bit cleaner... :)

Chill place to stay in an area that has a great art scene and many bars/restaurants. We didn’t experience any troubles when walking around during the day or at night. You can also meet a good mix of people in the bar area which is always pretty busy. The dorms were super spacious and clean with comfy beds and the private room was cozy and came with a fan & towels. It would be nice if a small breakfast would be included in the price as this is done at the Curiocity in Durban but would definitely stay here again!

Booked last year September when I wanted to confirm my march booking 2021 only saw on Google its closed toll 31st of March no communication nothing ! Calls are not answered no communication Im very disappointed I tried everything even on Booking.com no response I just want my refund I seem disloyal to my girls now nolonger interested I just want our money

Great stay the vibe is ok

I haven’t stayed here.I have only been for drinks and to hire a bike.The bikes need some maintenance work, so choose wisely.They also need to provide better guidance on what routes to take when hiring a bike - make sure you plan yours beforehand.The drinks are great, offering lots of inexpensive drinks, in a comfortable bar setting with activities like board games and getting to know people from around the world.

My favourite spot for hanging out and meeting interesting people. As far as hostels go, both the Joburg and Durban properties are far superior to any others I have been to and stayed at globally. The accommodation and facilities are great and so is their offering of tours and activities.

Great place to stay, specially if travelling alone, it is super easy to socialize, and the activities offered make it easy to explore the city safely in groups.Met great people, had great fun.Safety: the street is very safe, there are always people around. Asking at the reception is very helpful (open 24-7) to know where to go and where not to. Just be aware, going as far as a couple street could be already dangerous to go alone. The are some safe spots, and some not so safe, so be ready to use Uber to move even nearby (which I guess is a generality travelling alone in Joburg)Make sure you bring a lock for the lockers!Ambiance: very social. If you need a quite room, might not be your place. The bar is loud, the noise reaches the rooms (I was in room 1), but closes at 10pm, which is early enough to to have a long sleep.But the noise of the street its still loud, specially on the weekend.Perfect if you want to socialize in the evening!

Wonderful accommodation

Its a great backpacker! Rooms are comfy and the bar is amazing. I had also a city tour with Jazz and it was amazing too. Unfortunately Joburg is not that safe and so its almost impossible to walk in the city freely.

I loved room 3. I didn’t like the layout of room 1. I like the kitchen and terrace space together. I didn’t visit the restaurant!! I LOVED THE SUPER WONDERFUL STAFF!!! I started twice just because of them!!

I stayed at the hostel for three nights and had a great time, but my money was removed from my bag when the electricity broke down at the hostel and the password locked door of my room was open to everyone.Above, Curiocity staff cleans the rooms everyday, so the password is not really safe and the rooms doors are open every now and then during the day as the staff needs a while to do the cleaning.My advice is to put all your belongings in the locker since you cant trust everyone who is in the house. I lost about 50$, informed the manager when I returned to my room after only two hours of absence and got no refund!!

Funky and oh so cool. Definitely for the young or young at heart. Centrally located, safe and a gateway to exploring the Inner City of Johannesburg and surrounds.Situated in the trendy Maboneng precinct there is definitely something for everyone. If youre up for different and experiencing one of the coolest city backpackers I know of.. go for it, you wont be disappointed.

Nice and cosy hostel with a great and warm atmosphere. Its a safe and clean place directly in Joburg, they have security guys who watching the street and your car. Big kitchen with everything inside and a nice balkony for chilling and relaxing. The bar is serving good coffee and its open until 10pm. The colleagues are really friendly and helpful. We had a really nice stay there.

Not run the best. Zero WiFi in the rooms, and slow WiFi in the common area. Weird bathrooms. Overall pretty average but it was safe and they have good security. Bartender was also a solid guy but not much of a social scene.

Not just a fun place, but fun people too! Very welcoming staff who will help you both inside and outside of the backpackers. They organize events such as soccer games to go to and other shenanigans to get into. Also, theres a rooftop next door with frequent parties on top. Not only will it peak your curiosity, but it will fulfill it as well.

An amazing hostel in a safe part of the city. The staff and follow travelers were very friendly. Good vibes all around! They have a live music and poetry jam session Sunday nights led by Children of the Wind that include locals and you can join in too or just sit back and enjoy it.

A fantastic spot in Maboneng its the place to stay if you are traveling solo and on a flexible itinerary. They have a great bar the Hideout Bar most probably one of the top 5 bars in Johannesburg.

Cosy, friendly atmosphere. Staff at reception and the bar are a fun bunch. Location is perfect for those looking for a lively vibe; restaurants, bars. Some nice artwork on nearby buildings add to the youthful atmosphere of the neighbourhood.

Dont bother with anywhere else in Joburg. Curiocity is super close to transport and in a super nice 24hr security patrolled area. The hostel is well equipped with a great kitchen and the most amazing shared wifi Ive witnessed in a hostel. They offer city tours from the door which is also super convenient.

Comfortable, clean rooms. Bar inside, well equipped kitchen for you to cook, and a balcony for staying outside. You can also book some van trips to touristic places around.

Very pleasant atmosphere, located in a pretty safe area as far as Ive noticed. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. Jacuzzi was fun, as was the pool table. Everything is clean as well, with a pretty well equipped kitchen.Only thing that mightve been nice would be a free or cheap shuttle service, as other places offer, though I get thats quite hard to run with such a large place and therefore didnt mind that much. Joburg is pretty well connected anyway

I booked a room not knowing that it was a back packer, the staff at the front desk where so understanding and let me in, they kept my luggage safe and let me charge my phone at the bar side, I requested an uber and they let me wait for it inside, as I was waiting I started regretting it, Because I realised that it was a nice place to be and make new friends.The vibe the is very very great and safety is number one.I am planning on scheduling a trip with a friend just to spend the weekend there.

The people that work here are amazing! So helpful and they provide a good amount of tours around joburg and near by. We stayed in the 12 Decades Hotel through them and the place was amazing! Also the location is in a very safe spot in Joburg and the restaurants near by are all amazing to eat at. I went to 3 different places to eat and everything I had was great!

The backpackers is great if you want to experience maboneng on a budget. The staff is great and really helpful. They know the area well and will go out of their way to assist you. You must join them on some of their tours

This was one of the best backpackers in which Ive stayed. The vibe, the staff and the accommodation were amazing, and its very decently priced. The backpackers is in the heart of the Maboneng Precinct, which means youre a stones throw from some great restaurants and bars. Definitely a must-visit if youre in the area.
