Good service & food. Cold beer. Nice ambiance.
Laid back pub grub, Portuguese, best pizza in Jhb..
Always a treat. A great live music venue with good food
Always a delight @ The Radium. Good food and great vibes. We had an awesome time and enjoyed the quiz night. Not to be missed. Highly recommend.
Always a great experience. Pity that it is so quiet.
Good food and decently priced drinks.Definitely a must see for anyone whos interested in the history of South Africa.
What a great place. We went there on Tuesday night for their half price pizza special. Yum, yum, yum.
Meet the locals on the east side of Louis Botha Avenue. Extensive Portuguese style menu with starters, mains and desert. Had the sardine starter as well as the calamari steak starter, good value for money.Pizzas are on half price special on Tuesdays, large selection.Mondays prego and chips with castle draught for R60, quarter chicken and chips for R35. Draughts a bit expensive for this establishment at R32.Recommended if you want to see the other side of the street
Ordered via Uber. It was very juicy and succulent. π
So called history does not make up for a cat in the kitchen!
The oldest bar in Jhb still lives. Good to see the place is still running well and the draughts are good. The management should do something about more inclusivity though
What a great little gem just in a fidget area. Be aware. Be vigilant. If you enjoy live Jazz music- go! And if you dont- GO!!That place might be on the brink of closing if things very on like they are..... But what a cool place!! Go on a Friday night. Food is good and very well priced. Nothing like the south! Local is lekkerrrrrr!! Support support support !
If you are looking for a dirty overpriced bar then this is the place for you. I dont even know where to start. The thick sticky layer of dirt on the plastic table cloths kept me from resting my arms, in the same way you would have a hover poop at the Cairo train station. The delightful jar filled with rancid water on the table was supposed to be an ashtray. Its the type of thing you find in a crust punk squat. YukAnd then there is the food. The pizzas are okay but anything else off the menu is totally overpriced. I ordered the steak, medium rare. It was supposed to come with sauce and olives. I went for the chips and veg option. The rather small steak looked like it had been bitten off the cow by a caracal. It was overcooked and came with three rather pathetic olives. The chips were okay, the veg was that typical partly mashed overcooked stuff you get in school hostel, edible with some flavor but nothing special. Then comes the bill. At R180 for my half macerated overcooked steak with three pathetic olives I felt totally scammed. Sure the beer was decently priced, but that hardly makes up for the daylight robbery of the main meal. Will I go again? Probably not. Will they care? Well if the general level of cleanliness and quality of food is anything to go by I dont think my withholding my patronage will make much difference. As a final aside they do have live jazz, and if you have any reason to go to the Radium, this would be it.
A little slice of real Joburg in all its glory
A good ol nostaglic bar. Great vibes, great food!
Amazing place been here for years, live music some nights and very good service. The chicken is amazing.
Good food, and good live music. There is also a bar space plus a restaurant setting. It is suitable for dates as well. It is located in a pretty safe environment and location.
The Radium is a Joburg classic for live entertainment. But go in groups, as the area around The Radium is not safe.
Amazing place with amazing people!!! π Gautengs oldest live music venue that is still open! Simply awesome! πππ»
Not the great area anymore. We went to the upstairs part of the Radium beer hall for a 30th birthday party. They had provided access to the facilities the night before so that they could decorate. Look great. Barman was friendly. Finger food was OK. Could of had a bit more variety. As the party was winding down a girl slipped down the stairs and hit her head quite badly. Management and staff not too helpful and I was told that the people were left waiting out on unsafe Street waiting for Uber to arrive, rather than allowing them to stay in the restaurant.
Lively friendly relaxing
Definitely worth a visit! The story behind it make it a MUST VISIT spot in Johannesburg. The food is really excellent as well.
Always amazing. Great service. Great food.
Oldest bar in JHB easy laid back people nice selection of beers on tap . Cool place to watch the game over the weekend
The Radium Beer hall has been a landmark restaurant in the suburb of Orange Grove for as long as I can remember -When I was a little girl my mom and I often bought notions for making and altering clothing at the nearby Emdins notion store which sadly doesnt exist anymoreMy husband and I have had some really delicious meals at the Radium Beer hall over the years and the ambience is fabulous!
Steeped in history, live entertainment, food with portuguese roots, Guinness on tap, more history than trendy, go find out why this is the place where the real people go, no plastics.
Best prawns and Portuguese chicken in town
Rustic and authentic spot for those brave enough to venture onto forgotten Louie Botha. Good crowd, good pizza, great beer. Other items on the menu seem a bit pricey though.
Such a fantastic spot for a chilled beer and awesome vibe. Great service and perfect for a nice relaxed drink
Be sure to head through on a Saturday night for some live music. Well worth it.
Thank Goodness Its Close To Where I Live. Great Food, Live Sport Screens And Company.Very Friendly.
Old school classic keeping the books of history open.
Classic, simple place the food was great even ended having seconds their chicken was well cooked, filling burger. The place could use with a bit of dusting though and fine cleaning. If you like spicy food try their hot sauce.Exceptional customer service.
The absolute best LM prawns and steak, egg and chips available in all of joberg. Highly recommend.
Old school classic landmark of Joburg!
Was fantastic to hear live performances again .Thanks to all places that host live music.
This is the oldest surviving bar and grill in Johannesburg and it is filled with history. The walls are covered with newspaper headlines. Certainly gets conversations going about do you remember? The food is great - fantastic sardines! Then there is live music - a definite must.
Great atmosphere but just because a place has history doesnt mean it shouldnt be kept clean. Tables, chairs and toilets could do with attention. Food is good but pricey and judging by the cleanliness of the dining area I wouldnt spe d time pondering on the state of the kitchen whilst eating. Beer selection is good and nicely cold. Waiters could do with some customer relations training. Would go back for the beer and the atmosphere but not to dine.
What a let down, known as the oldest oub in Joburg but it looks terrible and needs some maintenance
What a delightful evening we enjoyed at the Radium Beer Hall. I hadnt visited since the 80s. Chicken and Chips were real Portuguse/Mozambique style. The price simply unbelievable. We had great service, too. Thank you!
Had the most delicious pizzas from Radium
Normally a great venue but last night they ran out of Trinchado at first then stock arrived. Half way through they ran out of all brands of Brandy. Very uncomfortable temperature with zero ventilation inside. The gents was a urine swimming pool by the end of the night with one urinal clearly blocked. To top it off there was loadshedding just as the band finished. But all in all a good night.
The vibe is good and u feel relaxed inside
I love this Radium bar. Its my favorite. Good food, excellent service and nice environment. A place to be and also watch your favorite soccer, Rugby and Tennis as well as other sports while enjoying good food, snacks and drinks. Kudos to your guys
Fabulous spot, lots of history and amazing jazz band
What a great place. Very honest place , what you see is what you get. Sardines , oysters , calamari salad , it all tasted very fresh , and the pizzas have a perfect crust. It was our first time , but i got the feeling the place hasnt change much over the years , which is a good thing. A great mix of people , nice vibe.
It was comfortable, no BlackLabel or chops, but pleasant enough. My steak was great. I was not wowed but didnt have a bad experience.
Literally the oldest bar in Johannesburg... As in the bar counter is salvaged from a Grand hotel and I the oldest in the city.Amazing prawns, some of the best in the city and good pizza.Still serves as the local pub for the area and feels immediately like home.An absolute institution.
The rich history of this place is amazing. The atmosphere and the food are good. For anyone wishing to tour Joburg, stop by Radium for a cold drink or a quick bite.
My favorite.Best pizza with a half price special on Tuesdays.Live music and jazz.. And just all round full of life and warmth.
Proper old-fashioned pub in the heart of Johannesburg. Vibe is good, staff are excellent, and food and drink is well-priced. Look out for their daily π specials whenever you visit π
Good
We pop around there every month... If you like prawns, this is the place... If you WA t music, then the weekend at the radium is the place... Manny who owns the place is always popping in to make sure that everything is OK, and that everyone is happy... Music evenings have a cover charge, but generally well worth it.. Food is well prepared and very tasty and average price range.. Worth comming here with a group, and bookings are essential depending on who is playing at the radium... Private venue upstairs for private parties with catering for groups from the radium kitchen if organized with management...
With lockdown they open from 10am until 5pm and offer collections of food and non alcoholic beverages so dont wait to get a good meal.
My first visit ever.Friendly staff and owner.Despite the area and interior decor etc the food was great. My steak was superb.Efficient service.
Stunning atmosphere and amazing old shoes decor.
Its a weird spot but great if youre into live music
Rude and very unresponsive when questioned on the Guinness which when tasted, transported me instantly to an online review for Tenants Super I had read years before:Acrid bitter lager taste. Not clean, dirty and damaging. Boozy and bitter. Offputting. Very difficult to drink. A real downer. Drain pour.Smells like the east end of Glasgow, that is stale lager mixed with badly-cooked chips smothered in vinegar.Tenants usually being a lot further from a pint of Guinness than Glasgow is from Dublin, Im only assuming these guys have gone to great lengths to achieve this most unusual taste and carbonation... easily the worst pint of Guinness I have ever tasted, and that is really saying something when I think back to some of the dives Ive drank in over the years.
A great place to visit for a casual meal with friends, both for lunch and for dinner. Dont let the rather shaby exterior and the location mislead you. Inside is a very historic old pub from the early days of johannesburg. The food is simple well cooked traditional pub grub with a few modern additions throwne in, such as several TVs to watch sport and reasonably priced. If youre looking for somewhere fun, different, unpretentious and authentic to go to this has to be worth considering.Parking generally is not a problem on the side street as you approach Louis Botha Avenue. Give it a try.
Great music! Best pizza Ive had in a long time. Good service form waiter. Door guy a bit grumpy, but overall great experience!
Excellent pub. 2nd oldest in the city of Johannesburg. Great for Saturday rugby matches, tap beer and live music.
Place needs to be renovated and they dnt have a variety of drinks ...so u drink what they have which kinda isnt cool
Fabulous setting. Authentic with lively people. Food is surprisingly good and the beer is always cold. Fab vibe indeed.ππ
Great food and funky vibe...good service
Good to know of and be able to visit a great pub that has been operating for decades.....
A Joburg classic. This pub has been going forever and is still great. Cheap drinks, good food, great pubby atmosphere, a mix of locals and people who just pop in for a meal. They do live music some nights and have concerts as well as a brass band some times I believe. The burgers and steaks are good and they do pizzas upstairs. Its definitely always worth a visit.
Excellent place for a quick pint or a meal
Great food. Awesome band. rubbish chairs
Great service.Live music and great setting.I enjoyed the Benoni Dagwood. Ill definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu. Its the place to be.
Loved the Clout show. Very cozy little place
Oldest pub in Johannesburg, friendly service. Great band....fun meeting place. Worth a visit.
The food was nice but very small for the amount we paid
Its joburgs oldest pub, it looks tired, run down and in need of a makeover. Its in a bad area and despite efforts to make it attractive with bands and shows, its just not a safe place any more
We love the Radium for a Friday unwind with friends, a few drinks, dinner and soothing live jazz πΉπ·π΅πΆπΆ
One of the oldest pubs in Jozi and one of the coolest! Great music venue (look out for their shows) else the Quiz Nights are awesome or just go and meet interesting characters at the bar. They have a house brew beer so give this a go. Food wise, the chicken and fish is usually good but order off the pub menu rather than the main menu - these pub snacks are FANTASTIC!
Dated design but extremely clean π§Όβ¨ Thereβs even management contact details π should you need help#goodnews #looreview #bogblog
Great food. Great music. Is loud but great ππ
My go to place for good food and atmosphere. I will go back again and again.
Has a great heritage. Glad a tried it out but probably wont go again- felt unsafe as I walked to my car
Good solid food served in a old beer hall with newspaper posters on the walls.Great fun for a group
Great vibe and excellent food. Saturday evening awsome bands plus cover charge
The vibe was ok...the food could be better ,the beers were good, Will definitely go chill there
Good Portuguese food, great vibe and excellent value for money
Very upmarket for its area. Good craft beer. Nice outing.
Iconic and historic! Excellenf food and great music venue! Thanks Andy and you need to bring Akkedis back!
Iconic Bar becoming dilapidated. Not in a good area.
The oldest and best pub in Johannesburg. Great pub food at reasonable prices.
