Fantastic restaurant for groups/ family/ couples/ individuals. They have a delicious buffet for those with large appetites which amounts to R250 per person. Located directly in front of South beach, right in the heart of the busiest Durban Metro holiday destination.Their buffet hast starters, main course and desserts but unfortunately excludes drinks, theyre charged separately. It is within uShaka Marine World which means safe parking and abundance of public transport. You can never get lost because it is next to the harbour.
This Moyo boasts the most magnificent views of the the Durban Beach front with Moses Mabhida Stadium in the distance, the Harbour with ships coming in on the other side and the open ocean with waves crashing beneath the restaurant. The decor is very simple, but functional. The menu boasts local delicacies as well as simple yet delicious food such as Burgers. This is also a great spot to have cocktails while watching the waves below.
The place was good. It has a bar at the pier and yo can enjoy the drinks with a view. Also the main restaurant has delicious food. I tried the Ostrich and it went good with the mushroom cheese sauce that was recommended by the waiter. This brings me to my next comment at both venues the waiter and waitress were welcoming, full of life and friendly. It was really a nice experience. Thumbs up . I like how its has that sense of African culture serving a combination of African foods with a twist
Finally had a change to visit this iconic beach Pier bar at South Beach. We visited on a windy and chilly Saturday afternoon. We started our dinner experience with cocktails at the Pier bar, the views are amazing. For dinner we went to the Moyo inland restaurant where we had a lovely dinner. We had a oxtail and beef curry paired with traditional amadombolo (steamed bread) there is a buffet option available if you are really hungry. During the dinner, we were entertained by traditional Zulu dancers which is quite a treat. The food was delicious. Definitely will be visiting again, the next time Im in Durban.
If you are an overseas tourist this a nice place to visit. Lovely home made breads very delicious. Fish cakes though are made of tinned fish, fair enough this is traditional african style and culture but at 90 rand this is price doesn’t match. Bunny chow meat was fatty and with lots of bones and cost 99 rand.
Always a great meal, and good service to go with it. Just eerily quiet, unless some corporates book it out. Strange because its the prime touristy site on the beachfront- and the menu is a fantastic representation of African cuisines. This is definately a management shortcoming, typical of Durban establishments- never quite going the extra bit, always just doing the basic amount. Thankfully the food is above average. The mutton bunny excellent, West African schnitzel tasty, the African paella potjie was a pleasant surprise too. Other failsafe classics are the molasses and peanut calamari starter, Maputo chicken, chicken prawn curry, lamb pasta and lamb tagine. Desserts are average.
The service definitely needs improvement. The first time I was there we left because no-one was attending us. The second time the service was slow. The view is still gorgeous though and its in a great location, east access to alot of things as well. Also very beautiful in the night especially with the humid weather in Durban.
The BEST cocktails ever..seriously! Perhaps a bit pricey, but sóóó worth it!!! Their morrocan rice is out-of-this-world good, and they serve the best, most tender ostrich fillet I have ever had. Moyo is an experience not to be missed.
Absolutely amazing views, great drinks & food and good service would definitely visit again.
Lovely vibrant vibe, great views of the sea and beachfront. Ordered a bobotie burger special, quite affordable and tasty
Nice view but the service was rubbish. My cold beer made up for a lot though.
What a cool place!! You have to try their cocktails!!
Good food but poor service
Good service friendly staff..will definitely go back
Always a pleasant experience and great views!
Amazing location in the ocean. Friendly service. Good live music. An excellent place to meet, socialize and have fun
Food & Ambiance & View excellent. Service magnificient
You can really enjoy a nice cocktail with a view here :) we went there after our visit to the waterpark and it was really worth it. I had an African sunset and it was one of the best cocktails Ive ever had :) so I highly recommend this place to you!
Came here for a cocktail on my 30th birthday in July, due to the great location. We were seated outside, which was great, but the railing was busted, which made me a little nervous as our table was right up against it. After our drinks came, we could not get a waiter to serve us any additional drinks or food, so we went to the bar to pay on our way out. When I mentioned the lack of service to the manager he got cocky with me and sarcastically told me not to pay if the service sucked so much. I was sorely tempted but instead gave him the money and insisted on paying so we could leave in peace. Super let down for a special day! I hope they pull up their socks soon in order to avoid a string of bad reviews. A real shame for a prime location such as this. As a traveller, I would sadly not recommend this venue.
Cocktails, cocktails and more cocktails. Just to die for, and sea all around. Nice for a light lunch or even breakfast.
Love this place. Best for a sundowner.
Great service, great food.
A lovely place to visit when in Durban SA
Rated 4/5 based on the food, music, service, maintenance and free WiFi.We waited to see which waiter was available to serve but they were making their way to serve us already. And that is great! You don’t want to be keeping hungry lads waiting now do you?We opted to sit outside for obvious reasons, the restaurant offers an AMAZING view through the coastal area of South Beach up to Moses Mabhida stadium.Feeling like a million bucks, their drinks and food turn around time was not too long. While enjoying our mouth watering food, the music was excellent! My WhatsApp statuses were flooded with the fun filled hot spot!It was just sad I had to use my own data when I had successfully registered for their WiFi. I mean while let me fill in the registration if you won’t allow me to to use it?Ahhhh! One can’t resist the beauty of the summer breeze while sipping on our cocktails and dancing the early afternoon away! Thanks to the DJ on the decks who kept us longer than we had expected.Could be better if the furniture right next to the toilet Is utilized or stored but not just left to rust where guests can see it, I mean where’s the maintenance chap? Also not so welcoming if it’s your first time.Had a blast nonetheless, definitely coming back to this place!
Awesome place for fam and friends
Such a nice experience to sit on the dock and experience the view of the Durban promenade!
I have not been to Moyo, or even to Africa, but in viewing the coast of SE Africa and the area of Durban specifically, it brought me to Moyo UShaka, and i have to say that this is a place that i would absolutely love to visit now having seen it. Now i want to visit Durban and come to Moyo!
Thanks for taking care of me and my out of towners😊
Excellent warm experience and very delicious African Cuisine...
Very friendly and helpfull service at John dohrys at Ushaka
Nice views of the beach and the sea
Everything about this place is a top notch, the Fridley staff, foood, wow...
Amazing placing to chill out .. nice drinks too
If there is an ocean restaurant you want to eat in whilst you in Durban for the weekend or youre just a local who just wants to eat next to the beach then Moyo Ushaka is the place you want to visit. The Restaurant is separated into two.One is situated in Ushaka Marine World and the other one is built on the closest pier next to Ushaka . Ive been to both restaurants and my personal favorite is the one built on the pier. You get to eat while you enjoy the sight of the ocean waves crashing on the pier underneath.
The waiters where good to us keep up the good work and the place is so beautiful
Stunning views and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!
Used to be vibie and elegant, but that seemed to have died down. Although the menue is different to jhb, and the ocean view is amazing. Just not sure why the ground level is vacant. Also, you not allowed to go there just after a swim in your costume.
Excellent food and good service all round
Had the osctriche steak and it was excellent
The views are stunning, the food is great and so is the service.
Veey nice sunday spot
Best view of the view. Best meal.
The view is amazing and the only reason to visit the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant looks very shabby. It was my birthday and I was quite disappointed to find out that they don’t do anything special to celebrate birthdays. The service is below average and the staff are not very productive. I dislike the fact that the bill states ‘‘tipping is customarily kept at 10-15% of the total shown on the bill.” I’m quite well aware of the normal tipping rate in South Africa. The food was bland and the drinks were warm. Definitely not worth the price.
Great place for a sundowner or cocktail. Good cocktail menu. Service a bit slow and premises need to be cleaned more regularly. Cant beat the view of Durbans sunrises and sunsets from the end of this pier.
Beautiful and interesting artwork on your way to Moyos
Great views of the Ocean and a great meal to go with the incredible service.
Great food and a really fun gig, and the cocktails are great
Service and quality on par with other Moyo restaurants, which does the basics well.
Durban is getting back its charm. They are really making the beachfront pretty. Upgrading all the accommodation and building a nice boardwalk. Nice restaurants to choose from or just to sit and enjoy a drink and let the sea view sink in. Would not advise anyone to go to Durban beach on a public holiday unless you love crowds. Otherwise, a lovely beachfront with loads to do.
Good thing about the downstairs bar area, is that, I can roll in, on my blades.Service is attentive.Juice is fresh.Double burger was prime.Chips were smack to my lips.Comfortable rustic surroundings.Great view.Take in the ocean, people in motion, lovers share devotion, sun bathers have their lotion, my bartender makes my potion, my girl starts her emotion💖💖💖💖💖
Service was delayed and the food seemed to have run out as there were only limited menu options available. Ironic, since the restaurant was not full. On a brighter note, the pier is a good spot for a great view of the sea.
Good tastes , authentic dinning , the lamb shank is a must try !
They were not even opened but their sites was stating that they are.
Perfect setting for a perfect end of year party!!
Good views, good vibe. The outdoor seating was quite nice. Great spot to take photos - you can see quite far up the beach. Decent food options and nice cocktails. Very warm and friendly staff - they made the visit more enjoyable. It also attracts a nice crowd, people smiling and having fun everywhere, great vibe, very enjoyable.
Unfortunately when we went the business had closed down.
Great place with awesome food. Their prices are reasonable, which is great. Bear in mind there are two Moyos in uShaka - one on the shore and one on the pier. Ive eaten at both places and the food is great at both. Their starters are amazing and so is the oxtail and their burgers. The portion sizes are great. Their drinks are weak though (in alcohol content). I dont drink much but even to me they tasted like juice. If you visit the one on the pier, try sitting upstairs and outside on the balcony, the wind doesnt hit you as much as it seems it would, and its beautiful out there. I suggest avoid sitting downstairs because there are gaps in the floor - so if you drop your phone, your keys, or anything like that, its gone into the ocean. Not good. But overall, a good place.
Splendid view of the beach. South Beach part. The restaurant is located closet to the sea, and stands and on pillars. This view is amazing. The waiters are friendly and hardworking. There is an option got sitting above or below. At times the above floor is filled, and there are not elevators making it inaccessible to the handicapped. Above all. Beautiful space and environment. Public restrooms are available. Food, drinks to alcohol is served.
Great service paired with a great view.
Charming authentic Africa themed restaurant..Loved the good food and chilled atmosphere.Live music gave it that extra appeal...
Tasty food
Brilliant , breathtaking views and service match. Moyos on the pier is amazing. Great way to just unwind as you watch the beautiful waves and have a meal and something to drink.
Very relaxed and great service
Home away from home...
There appears to be two sections to this place, one next to uShska and another at the end of the pier. Had drinks at the one next to uShaka and would never want to eat there. Mid morning so no excuse that many had been in and out during the day, table tops dirty, chairs cushions hadnt been wiped in I dont know how long, straws not wrapped just sitting on bar counter, floors filthy. It may be African theme but health and hygiene should still be to some acceptable .level.
Its a lovely restaurant. I have only been there for a work function and found the food choices very different so if you love to try new things gastronomically then definitely give it a try. There does seem to be a lovely outdoor kids play area though I have never seen anyone on it.
This place is the restaurant to go to if you want a taste or traditional south african foods their buffet is to die for and at only R250 per person. There were dishes like steamed bread, some lamb curries and beef with dombolo, their dessert option were quite limited though but I went out satisfied wanting to go back again
Awesome place for cocktails and food. Watch the ships come in and out of the harbour mouth all day... Highly recommended
The atmosphere is great, it is very vibrant and its a great place to hang out with friends while enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the waves in the background. Not forgetting the fresh smell of the ocean... amazing. The only downfall is their menu and the food, which is not the greatest. I actually wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
Service was good, view was stunning. Cocktail was incredible. Cleanliness of the facility could have been better. It wasn’t a busy time we visited so I would have expected a cleaner restaurant.
