This place is distgusting.... I have a health inspector coming in tomorrow undercover. Apparently on their website they have strict covid precautions, surprisingly there isnt a sanitizer in sight, the lift is filled with 20 people with no masks, there is no control. I was asked to get out of the elevator as because I was wearing a mask, I was told that because Im white, I breathe woolworths air. I asked a staff member in the elevator why people were not wearing masks, she said I dont care the linen, pillows, everything smells like it hasnt been changed since 1845 when the hotel opened. Not to mention I changed rooms 3 times because of the dirty and disgusting conditions of the room. I also got stuck in the elevator twice. Other guests had to force the doors open. The aircon is non existing, hot water is non existing. I actually dont know where to stop this message but hopefully today the health inspector will close their doors.

That place is too old and also outdated. There is nothing much about your good. Dometimes it horrible. Something that you can cook for yourself even better. Beds are comfortable thou and in a good condition.

Had breakfast there. The eggs where cold, the yogurt was not fresh and it was sour. The waiter shame was amazing. But the food was definitely not worth the price I paid for.

I loved everything at the royal hotel, the staff was welcoming and friendly, even though I had a problem with my booking as my bank didnt release funds on time. The staff made sure I had a room prepared and waiting for me while I sorted the issue with my bank. I will definitely go back to the hotel on my next visit to Durban

Beds were on point, loading shading affected our stay, water was not hot but warm, the whole day.The staff were very friendly, assisting immediately.

Alot to say. Maintenance urgently required. No hot water. No instructions in the lift to were the parking lot is. Payment for parking should be included in the payment for hotel. Residence going all over looking for change to pay for parking. Not on. Urgently needs attention

A five star amazing place to hold meetings and discuss business over lunch. Their menus are heavenly not to mention the reasonable pricing. They have unrivaled conference venues and sleeping quarters. The staff is friendly yet respectful. A warm and homely place to call home whe u are away

The room are clean, spacious and very well presented. The stuff👌location excellent.The only problem we encountered was hot water, had to bath with cold water in winter and the toilet its simple doesnt want to flush.

Staff is friendly but they could do with more problem solving skills training. We were not made aware of poor water temperatures and we were told that is how they are meant to be. Outdated tv channels. When entering the dining room no one seats you or explains upon entry how things work, the omelette was raw.

The building Is a bit old and dated and the lifts were not working properly.. but I had actually gone to the Spa on the 21st floor and actually had an amazing time .. wasnt so bad

The decor and paintings are still maintained with the splendour of Royalty. The paintings and furniture are as original as from the Majestic era.The buffet offered various dishes to suit every taste..dessert was exceptional.I was disappointed with the slow waiters who took a very kind time to serve our water or juice...Perhaps its due to the number of guests...I suggest getting in more staff to cope with the full house.

A very nice hotel with lots of heritage, but a lot of maintenance needed. The food is delicious and nicely priced. The jumbo scones for two are no longer jumbo and pretty much just enough for one (except for the coffee).

I found condom wraps under the bed and cocktail umbrellas. It wasnt clean. The Wi-Fi wasnt always working. Had to wait long for elevators.

Had a lovely stay, the hotel stuff is so welcoming and their service is excellent, ld go back again anytime and reccommend anyone without doubt

The hospitality was good but deceptive. We went there traditionally for our busket munchies with our staff to be shocked by a price hike from R95 a meal to R240 for the same meals. Unfortunately we fell for the trap we werent expecting and were only advised when the bill came that there was a change of price .More than R2000 on our budget .it spoiled the whole moodand expectation

I used to run the small fitness centre on the top floor by the pool deck some years back - the place has a awesome feel to it. Like an oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle.

It is beautiful and very clean.I really enjoyed my stay.They could start check ins a little early though to avoid a long queue at 14:00.

It needs high levels of interior structural renovations to talk to the current trends. Weaved wall rag has a historical design of Royalty,but IT HAS TO BE MODERNISED IN A FORM 3D WALLED DESIHNS WITH THE SAME ROYALTY TO KEEP ITS HERITAGE.I HOPE MY SUGGESTION WILL MAKE SENSE.CUSTOMER.

The place is clean and very friendly staff, but you need fix your lifts and wifi to be accessible

The first appearance speaks volumes, the rest did not matter!Reception Staff have no customer service.They are unable to assist a client, which other hotels will definitely go out of their way to do.....You gotta treat guests equally...I would never recommend or come to this place in my lifetime again.Seen better and lived in far more hospitable, accommodating places, where customers were treated with care.

Me and my husband we enjoyed our stay in 2019. The staff is friendly

Terrible experience, will never go back. Upon booking the room online I was asked if we were celebrating a special day which we were but this was not even acknowledged upon checking into the hotel. Not even a free dessert to help celebrate my birthday. Rooms have centralized aircon. Air con in our room was basically none existent. I complained 3 times about the air con not cooling the room and nothing was done about it. We had to keep the window open at all times. We had no hot water in our room. Maintenance checked it and said he fixed the problem but when we tried to shower that evening the water was barely warm. The first day we checked in it took us over 5 attempts to unlock our room door on 2 occasions. By the second day we were locked out of our room and had to call reception to send someone up with a master key. What was meant to be a relaxing weekend away ended in us wanting to be anywhere else except in our room. We just wanted to get out as soon as possible. Absolutely disappointed!!! We expected better from a Coastlands group of hotels

Horrible hotel. Stayed there this long weekend had to cut my trip short I couldnt deal with the lack of cleanliness and the fact that the lift didnt work for the duration of our stay and that meant we had to walk up 11 floors and down with babies and kids. Totally unacceptable and that the hotel itself didnt care. This meant that we would be packed like sardines in the lift with no social distancing with some guests not wearing masks. This was my second stay but I guess the first time was one night and this time was three. Never again! Its the Royal dump if you ask me. Wow!

I did an early check in of which i didnt think it was acceptable,the family room was very clean, breakfast 😋😋and Zanele was very helpful she made sure the rooms were clean and bath towels changed every day sha was just a darling.We really enjoyed our stay and we definitely coming back😉😉😉

Only 1 lift works . Have to walk 15 floors . Not too modern probably last upgraded in the 1900’s Windows are filthy . Decent place to stay in but definitely not 4 stars. Staff at the reception when checking in was cocky. I am currently still waiting for the 2nd room to be opened as the card doesn’t work (waiting about 3 hours already for it to get fixed)

The room we were residing in was ok but, there was a humming noise in the room that was not allowing my wife to have a sound sleep. She battled to sleep last night.

With the roadworks infront of the hotel, theres no order, no directions for alternative entrance

For starters ,parking was such an issue ,where you had to park on another building on the 12th floor ,take the elevator to the 3rd floor ,then walk across the bridge to another building.then got to the reception got my room key which I booked in advance for a double bed ,I had 2 single beds .queried with reception they moved me to another room which made no difference because they had 2 single beds pushed next to each other.by that time I was already late for my spar treatment so I went for it and got back to the room ,it was cold and there was no hot water.all the other rooms as per reception was fully booked so why book in advance.they moved me again to another room and still no hot water ...I was furious that I paid so much and what am I getting out of this was really sad .they guy from the reception told me run the tap because of covid the room was not in use .so I did as he instructed me to do so ,still no hot water I was more furious because I just got back from a spar treatment with oil all over my body even my wife ,I knew my brithday was ruined ,so I gave the hotel manager a last chance to make things right found another room ,with the same issue no hot water .I was not gona stay there for another second because the hotel is fully booked ,I paid my money I deserved the service .the manager told me that I could not get a refund because I was there for 6 hours which I was at the spar treatment then at the reception ,elevator up down left right .if he had told me from the start I was going to cancel the room.I had to drive home at 12:30 just to have a bath .did I pay the royal hotel for nothing or should I get a refund ?

So when we checked in they gave us the card key thats not working at all.. We went down and told the front desk that the key isnt working. Then they didnt believe us one of the guy came with us to try it again. Still didnt work at all. Then he told us that hell bring a new one. When the security came and gave the key to me. I tried it and still.. Not working.. I dont know whats happening in this hotel but everything is just not falling in the right place. The elevator is taking forever and every time we need to go to our room we need to wait more 15mins just for them to open it. Air-condition is not working also.. We tried to call the manager on duty that night.. He said hell send some one to fix it.. After an hour nobody came. So I need to go all the way down at 1am just to talk to them. Thats the time they gave me a fan. I appreciate the effort but couldnt done that before. Instead us getting frustrated of everything thats happening to the hotel. Never got my key card. Its Valentines Day and very embarrassing to my girlfriend to experience this kind of stuff. Never gonna come back again. People working in the hotel are not very helpful at all. They just dont care at all.

We politely asked to use the toilet facility in the public area because the museum we had come for opposite was closed. We were denied access to the toilet facility in the public area although my girlfriend had an emergency. Unfriendly, not helpful and looked down ashamed when confronted with the fact that they were denying someone a basic necessity.

Beautiful hotel overall, the rooms are nice and spacious and well kept. The breakfast buffet was a dream, all the food was freshly prepared and cooked well. The outside of the hotel could do with some sprucing up but it was overall a great experience. The staff is so helpful and friendly too

Terrible!!! Was put in 1st room & ac was not working & cold water tap had warm/hot water & tap itself was horrid to use. Was offered a fan Lol we declined. Insisted on another room as it was my birthday & my hubby thought Royal Hotel would have royal service/facilities Lol Got into 2nd room & the tap again was terrible & toilet seat was loose. Also, the shower was not good & so cramped & water dripped very badly after showering. Plus no milk for tea/coffee. Was hoping for a special birthday experience but was really disappointed. Not even 1 free chocolate Lol at least for my birthday... too bad!!! Oh & hubby & I decided never to come back & will inform others also not to expect any kind of royal treatment at The Royal Hotel. You asked me to elaborate... hope this helps improve someone elses bday experience at your hotel.

Hotel was nice. Only problem was the lifts. From 3, only 1 worked. It took ages to go up or down. Parking was expensive because its external and you pay each time you come in.

The parking is dodgy and difficult to access. Place has no wifi.. Only the ground floor and first floor have.

The hotel itself is very beautiful and classic The manager he was very understanding when it comes to a point where we had to sign in early in the morning instead of signing in the afternoon. The staff is very friendly and polite, which makes it a warmth place to be.
