Horrible organisation, not trustworthy. It seems like their main focus is ripping people off 😭.

Terrible organization, with small, overpriced rooms... Stayed there for two months just before the Corona crisis after which I suddenly had to leave. Afterwards, Rent-A-Room spent my deposit and now does not want to give it back. Furthermore, the rooms are overpriced and you have to pay a ton to get extra wifi. Would not recommend this organization to anyone.

Keeping the deposit because I left early because of COVID. Worst service every.

I dont care about these terrible reviews by all these ungrateful, greedy people. I actually have low expectations when I live somewhere in a foreign country and RAR exceeded my expectations. I lived at 197 lower main road and it was the best experience of my life. RAR kept the house clean, constantly renovated it to make it look cooler, and was always available whenever we needed something. Sometimes the house wasnt super clean, sometimes there was too much construction in the house to handle living there, and sometimes appliances in the house didnt work but when you live in a foreign country for some time you have to be easygoing and deal with these types of things. All these people writing terrible reviews have no clue what they are talking about. Small rooms, parties, unclean kitchens, deal with it!! You are living in a foreign country!! Your living situation is going to be very far from perfect. Sounds like some spoiled brats to me. RAR gave me an experience that I will never forget. Thank you RAR!!

Worst organisation ever, rented a room for half a year and at the and of our stay we tried to organize a party (everyone in our house had parties weekly). We discussed with them if and how we could organize a farewell party and they told us it was okay. Then we had the party and we got evacuated out of our house 5 days before leaving cape town. It was not legally approved and they knew we would leave in 5 days so we couldnt do anything about it. I would recommend: please rent your room elsewhere.

I stayed at 89 station road biggest mistake I ever made! poor service these people only care about making money OVERCHARGING people for a match box size room they nice to you at the start because they want you to fall into the trap of paying a 1 and a half month + full rent deposit once you in they couldnt care less about you. I contracted Covid 19 in the house after informing RAR numerous of time about the big parties that were happening in the house students wrecking the house and kitchen very dirty and unclean couldnt cook food because always dishes were left to pile up woke up in the morning to a toilet full of vomit left buy students friends, having massive sleepovers had to wake up to a house smelling like filth and seeing random people drunk and passed out on the couches in the living room people who are not even paying rent they took no action to stop the house parties that I complained about. They make you sign agreements but they dont take action when action is needed. I absolutely would not advise anyone to rent through this company absolutely horrible!

For anyone that is looking for housing within Cape Town and wants to be secured for a good place to stay with or without roommates, I can definitely recommend Rent A Room! My stay of 5 months in Cape Town, Observatory has been wonderful thanks to Rent A Room. Stayed with Rent A Room for three months, they made my stay in Cape Town very comfortable! They were easy to contact, quick in response and always willing to help. The house I stayed in (3 Bishop) was spacious, with all amenities included and clean.

As someone who has never lived in Cape Town and looking for accommodation during the infamous Air BnB season, finding a room to stay in was an immense struggle. Rent-A-Room made the process so easy, finding me a place as soon as possible. The staff are more than welcoming and kind, not hesitating to ask any questions or to help me out. We have all that we need in our little house and I have felt very safe. It is an excellent cost-effective option for those looking to stay in Cape Town for both short and long periods of time.

I absolutely loved living in 49 Milton St via Rent A Room in Cape Town. The whole process was very seamless and when I wanted to move to a different room for reasons none other than wanting to be in a room that got early morning sun, Sean Walpole and the whole team were incredibly helpful and accommodating. I have recommended their housing to multiple other students and interns coming to South Africa and they truly have a house and room type for anyone. What a horrible company, cheap owners that are only interested in making profit.They put 17 people in a house that is suitable for 6 persons.Rent a room thinks It is pleasant for the tenants to share a kitchen table with four chairs in a house with 17 people.NEVER RENT A ROOM HERE

Strubens 98 is a great house with beautiful rooms, stayed there 2 months in 2019. Milton was less good when I stayed there in 2015, though still a good house; probably 100% fine for the party students :) Overall experience good with good service, thanks guys.

Stayed with rentaroom for 3 months. Was in a great location and the accommodation was pretty standard student style accommodation in a shared house. The room was spacious and the communal areas were cleaned on a regular basis. Rentaroom were easy to get in touch with throughout my stay, the staff were friendly and extremely quick and helpful with responding to any issues that arose while we were there!

Responds to emails quickly. Good service and takes care of people staying with them. Some of the houses are far less nice than others, though, so experience will be somewhat hit and miss.

I stayed at the Paragon - the apartment itself was great! That said, I did not have a great experience with Rent-A-Room. They kept a part of my deposit due to an alleged mattress stain. Before I left the apartment I stripped the bed and cleaned the sheets, and there was no stain on the mattress protector. During my departure inspection, everything was in good condition and signed-off on. After returning home, I had to follow-up on the refund of my deposit since it was overdue and found out that they kept a portion of it to clean the mattress. In hindsight, I should have taken pictures as proof and done a better pre-inspection because if there was a mattress stain it was likely there before I even arrived. While dealing with the issue now and trying to resolve it over email, Rent-A-Room has not been responsive. It took 2 weeks before they responded to my initial email and now have stopped responding.

I have been living at Scott road, Observatory during my six-months internship in Cape Town. RAR offers me a great place to stay. Prices comparable to Europe. The house got cleaned twice a week and the maintenance services (when needed) was very quickly. Question and answering through mail with RAR is perfect. Improvement point would be; communication with house visits of maintenance and cleaning staff. Also WiFi isnt always working, but understandable since this is a challenge in SA.

As has been mentioned earlier by others, this company doesnt make it up to any standards. The house I stayed in was inhabited by 17 persons, sharing one small kitchen and three bathrooms and no dining room. The walls are thin, the floor and the stairs broken. The house owner also tried to make the life miserable for the people living there by making it impossible to have dinner or chill out outside together, due to complaining neighbours in the past.

The only thing they care about is making profit. Do not meet appointments. Keep the deposit unlawful. Overpriced for the housing you get.
