Neither location, comfort, nor service is fantastic... or ok. Extremely low-key but clean and suitable for a quick sleep over if you have to.

I stayed at african heart for almost 5 weeks while working as a volunteer and I have to say the place is just perfect.It is very cozy, so it really felt like a home and not just a random hostel.The staff is always polite and helpful and the rooms and community spaces are cleaned on a dayly basis.On top of that the location is just great. You have two supermarkets in walking distance, a street full of bars and restaurants around the corner and within thirty minutes of your time you can be at almost every place in cape town you want to see.I can only recommend african heart to every soon to be volunteer or backpacker and all the tourists that want to experience the vibe of observatory.

· Very disorganised. Felt uncomfortable, felt like we were staying in a student commune and were in their space. The kitchen was not very clean including the crockery and utensils which I had to re-clean before using.On the first morning I went to make breakfast and the bread was mouldy I did not even want to try the cereal, we never had breakfast there again. Our room had no fan and was extremely hot, we had to sleep with our windows open and got attacked by mosquitoes. Property advertises BBQ/Braai facilitates which I don’t think had used for years before we had a braai, it started falling apart as we were using it. The communal toilets and showers were dirty. Secure parking is advertised but is quite a distance away from the property and not safe as we had an in counter with two undesirables, if we had known this we would not have booked here. When we wanted to check out there was also no one at reception. It’s hard to distinguish between who works there and who’s actually a guest which also makes it easy for people to come and go. I understand this is a backpackers and not luxury accommodation, but for the money that was paid I did expect slightly more cleanliness and professionalism. I would not recommend or revisit

Realy great!

We arrived on top of check in time.The room was still messy as they were tidying up. It would not be a problem if we did not realize that bedding was NOT TRANSFORMED!They simply stretched the sheets, and straightened the pillows.They did not take soap and towel from the previous guest. When she lifted the comforter, she had dust on the sheet.The hotel had no clean towel available as they said it was in the laundry room. We wipe our own clothes on the first day.Breakfast was bread with butter and coffee.As we were at the end of the trip with shopping and bags, we preferred not to complain as we had no way of knowing what the reaction would be and if our stay could get worse.

Stylish hostel located in a nice neighborhood. We arrived late in the evening due to a delay of our plane from NL but were received very friendly. The communal kitchen is large and well-equipped. From the kitchen table you have a spectacular view! Free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Recommended!
