HOW TO MAKE A BOOKING : I have put in a rating based on my online booking experience which was very poor - although in the end I didnt use canal Walk because they could not offer an appropriate date and because I read that they canceled appointments twice. However, with help from a friend, I did finally find out how to make a booking in the Home Affairs system, for Canal Walk. (If you want to save time you can apply online and pay online before booking an appointment but you dont have to ) . To make a booking at Canal Walk, make sure you select Western Province NOT Cape Town in the first drop down . Then Select Cape Town under the City. Then select Milnerton as the Suburb. You can then select Canal Walk. To get a date range, click on the left hand side box and select the earliest date you want. Then instead of trying to select the second date in the Right hand box from the drop down, MANUALLY TYPE IN the second date, using the same format as in the left hand box, making sure its a wide range of dates. So eg you may select first date as 25 Oct from the drop down calendar - which will appear as 2021-10-25 . Then MANUALLY type in a date late in the next month - eg 2021-11-20 and you will finally see a range of available days and time slots . Good Luck !

The contact number supplied diverts to the Standard Bank main menu where there is no option for a branch offering E-card services to book an appointment. There are no direct numbers, so calling is a shot in the dark. Hopefully you get a bright spark who will then put you through to the branch you require. It then just rings at whichever branch you require and the call will cut out and you start again.

Ive made an online booking for a new smart card ID, a few days before my appointment I got a call to say that they cancelling my appointment due to Covid etc.. Ive been trying for more than a month to rebook an appointment but the system always says no available dates. I then eventually decided to type the date in myself (YYYY-MM -DD) with a 2 week range that leads into the new month... instead of choosing thier option range (2 week window) and i got all the days avaible in that next 2 week range So my new date is booked for October. I hope this helps for those struggling with the online system and rebooking dates.

I am so frustrated - I booked (and paid!) for an appointment to renew my ID. I received a confirmation booking which I printed and took with me. After waiting for 15 minutes with not one staff member around, finally someone arrived at reception and told me - we dont do ID applications. Only passport or passport AND ID. No apology, no signage no nothing. Never mind that Ive paid for an appointment I apparently cant have. Absolutely pathetic service and no care at all for customers.

I had an appointment at 11 till 12 this morning 4 Jan 2021 at the Canal Walk Standard Bank branch. When I arrived at 11 I was politely told by the security at the branch that the Home Affairs Office was closed and would reopen again on Friday due to covid. If that is the case why does Home Affairs arrange for an appointment when they are closed. Boggles the mind to say the least

Everyone please note the following for Passport and ID applications:-You need to make an appointment online - dont just rock up-You need to take your old Passport, ID and your confirmation letter with you-They WILL cancel your old passport on the spot, so if you plan on still traveling within the next 21 days you will need an official letter from your company stating that you need 2 active passports-Example of how their appointments work: if your appointment is for 09:00am they can only issue you a ticket between 09:00 and 10:00. If their system is offline and you are not issued a ticket within an hour of your appointment, you need to make a new appointment. If however you have your ticket number, you can be helped outside of your appointment window.Offline for a second day. This review is not directed at this branch, but at Home Affairs as a whole as their systems are always offline. Still havent been helped and going to make a booking for a third day now.

In and out in 10 minutes, staff were helpful and patient (i came with 2 toddlers #FML). Well worth opening a std bank account for. Only 4 stars as this service is only open to South African citizens (not also permanent residents) and if your spouse is not a South African citizen make sure they bring their passport along (in case you are applying for your kids). This could of been made more clear in the Ts and Cs on the website.

This is not just another Home affairs office. It is one dedicated to online applications. If it is used that way it works like a charm. Was helped photograhs taken and fingerprints in under 10 minutes. Do not try to walk in or call it is not what is meant for. To use it you need to have a cellphone number where you can be reached, and probably an email address as well. And yes you need to be a standard bank customer.

Its so hard to rate this place. Have been twice before and given up in the face of long queues and offline issues. Went for a third time and was in and out in 15 minutes! The friendly person at the reception desk said its just so random although he did say school holidays are generally very busy. When theyre offline, they cant do anything and they can be offline for minutes or hours (and they are often offline). While I was there I asked for their phone number and phoned it - they had the phone on silent (it blinks a light) at a desk no-one was sitting at; I think this is a permanent state of affairs.

I agree with my fellow reviewer below. Besides a dicky website (which times out very quickly), once you have booked your appointment and appear with the correct information needed, we had a very swift and fast service - 15 mins max. We were applying for passports for a toddler and an infant and the staff used cartoons on their cell phones to attract our baby’s attention towards the camera - not their first rodeo! We had an appointment for 10:00 and were having breakfast by 10:15. Definitely the way to go.

MY ADVICE: Use this system only if you have a least 4-6 weeks before you need your documents as the average waiting time for an appointment at CW dept of home affairs (DoHA) is 2weeks and it will take 7-21working days for your documents to be ready. do your application (working fast as it will timeout) and payment online, then make an booking for the bank appointment online and appear within your time slot with your proof of application and payment and supporting documentation if necessary. The only way in which this system helps is that you dont have to wait in a long que and u either get it entirely right or entirely wrong and have to figure the missing parts out on your own. They dont fill in forms for u, u have to go away and get the online application right on your own. If you do an online booking it is also possible to select standard bank canal walk as your collection point (not sure if it still applies for collection if u do biometrics at any home affairs).Dont waste your time going there for help with the online system, theyll tell you to read the manual. They wont help with individual steps.MY EXPERIENCE: I was disappointed for what they are made out to be. I went there after applying and paying online. The place was completely empty yet they refused to capture my biometrics because they only work by appointment and if a person doesnt show up to their appointment the time slot is forfeited and cannot be reallocated to a walk-in. The lady even told me they are fully booked and process 15 applications per hour. Looking at the sparse waiting room i doubted this could be true. The only reason i hadnt made a booking online is because the site gave me a blank page for the time frame of ten days i had selected so i assumed it was a system error. I had no idea when the soonest booking could be. I went there after the online system told me going without a booking is possible... and after i called the standard bank prestige banking line for help with the payment and they said Centurion standard bank DoHA accepts walk-ins and it shouldnt be a problem. i.e. I did my homework. It took several tries for me to figure out the system entirely, from online application right to collection, and still there are glitches. And I have a doctorate degree! I havent gotten my biometrics done yet but have listed CW as my collection point . hope it works.Good luck!(BELLVILLE DoHA was of no help. I chanced going there and actually got in the doors for the first time out of 3 tries this week. they suddenly asked me for documents the online system didnt even mention nor require. The manager sat me down and used a patronizing tone that didnt explain how i could have known this, nor why the security guards randomly refuse to admit people within their working hours. Im going to try Wynberg DoHA. Please share your experience and help others. I am also going to mail the managers of the DoHAs where i have problems, as well as the Pretoria head office, and if i can, the minister of home affairs, in the hopes that their service will improve. The online reviews are enough to prove its a real problem)

BOOKING ONLINE:I struggled with getting a date/timeslot for the booking at Canal Walk and could not get through by phoning. The calendar selection does not allow you to select more than 2 weeks away from todays date and kept saying there was no timeslots available. It was frustrating as i kept checking daily to try to make a booking. I figured out you first need to select todays date from the calendar icon and then PHYSICALLY TYPE in a date for about a month from now in the same format because the calendar icon doesnt allow you to select a later date. Eg. From 25-10-2021 to 25-11-2021. This will give you a wider range of dates and timeslots available. I hope sharing this info helps someone struggling to make a booking. Home Affairs needs to fix that calendar icon.
