This was such a frustrating and sad day. This was due to the treatment we received at this facility. I had a sprained finger. On arrival there was no clear procedure. After being screened in a tent situated in an old hanger. I eventually end up in a waiting room. Where a security guard then refers me to the back off the seating arrangement. After much frustration due to no clear means of urgency or order. I understand that Hospitals have a lot of emergencies to deal with. But when several patients needs are not being met or even clearly communicated, it becomes frustrating. After me and a few other patients went to get blood pressure taken and communicate our conditions. We are referred back to waiting. During the course of which I witnessed a gentleman groaning in agony. He was waiting before I came and I left after waiting over 3 Hours and not being seen to my satisfaction. Another older gentle misunderstood the line procedure and was moved in such a disrespectful manner. The security guard proceeded to kick this mans wheelchair break mechanism in an attempt to fix and move him in his wheelchair. This behaviour was appalling, especially towards a senior citizen.I left out of pure frustrating pain and anger. Another middle aged man was suffering and when our wait in the purgatory of a waiting room proceeded into the evening he proceeded to curl up in a blanket and sit on the floor against the wall. This to him was more peaceful than his prior hours of discomfort sitting in plastic stiff seating arrangement. As a youth it worries me. I see close to no compassion in the way the security handles patients. Numerous workers and guards giving no regard to covid precautions. Having facemarks at their own leisure. The empty hallways poor hygiene and overall bad atmosphere has me concerned for the peoples who cant communicate their struggles. like the gentleman who was bleeding from his shoulder using a washing rag to stop the blood. Who was then led along the stray path of checking himself in and having to wait in agony. Truly HeartbreakingI hope the hospital can attend to the peoples needs. In these trying times we expect more from our government.

I am truly disgusted as I was told by my wife about how inhumane and rude the staff and the security treated her. One star is way too high. She was told by the nurses and doctors to shut up and they forced her down while injecting her to make her fall asleep. Security is just as horrible making fun of patients in their face. She told me how badly they handled other patients aswell, they didnt do anything as her fellow patient was going through physical pain, they told her voetjek as she asked them for help. I am truly disappointed and I hope that they replace the staff or close down this hospital as soon as possible.

I am very disgusted by the service of Hospital.I arrived at the hospital at 16:30 a relative of mine was discharged, the doctor has called me to come.Upon arrival I informed the security that i came to fetch my discharged relative gave them the Names and said they will inform the ward that we are there to fetch our relative. After a long wait the morning shift staff never attended to the matter and left which was 18:00pm then and we had to wait again as the securities were also going home. After asking for help i called the hospital admin to check for me if my relative is ready and i was informed that yes he is discharged. 19:30 I received a feedback from the security that he will not be discharged due to the fact the the Day Shift Nurses didnt collect his medication. Imagine having to drive all the way for nothing. I am really disgusted by the way they operate.

I had my vaccine administered there. Not only was the staff friendly they were also very professional in the way they dealt with their clients. Social distancing was strictly adhered to as well as adequate seating for the less fit patients. Seats were cleaned between each move forward to the next. Also appreciated the 15min waiting period after your jab ,to make sure you dont show any negative side effects. I arrived at 7:30 and I was about the 12th patient ,vaccinations started at 08:00 and I was done at 08:30. Very happy with the service to say theleast.

I gave birth to my daughter on Mothers Day at Somerset and was blown away by the exceptional service & treatment I received from all medical staff on duty. I wasnt left alone for longer than 5 minutes at a time. Had incredibly supportive nurses & doctors that brought my daughter into the world with the utmost care & truly the best bedside manners I have encountered. Having given birth before at a private mediclinic, I was really fearful as I didnt know what to expect this time round not having medical aid anymore, I can honestly say I received the same level, if not better than I did years ago at Panorama Mediclinic. Thank you to all at Somerset Labour & Maternity ward- I was blessed to have been taken care of by you. Thank you. xxx - Gia (Da Silva) Janeke

I did not think we still have people with UBUNTU until I spoke to mam Sweetlina Madlamini at reception at the New Somerset Hospital. On Tuesday 4th May, mam Sweetlina assisted my now late brother who was stabbed. He gave an incorrect name and when she called my grandmother she didnt know the person she mentioned. I called the hospital and she assisted me and you could hear from her voice that she was assisting me from the bottom of her heart. She went the extra mile to ensure that she described him for me as I explained to her the situation. Even though she could not tell me on the phone that he has suddenly passed she made sure I felt the urgency of the matter.I would really like to thank mam Sweetlina if it was not for your patience and love for your job we would have lost a family member to a different name like many that goes missing.I thank you Mha God bless you.

When the nurses on duty dont even know if a patient is in their own ward - you know there is a problem. I have called twice today and on the first occasion a very rude nurse answered the phone and immediately spoke over me cutting me short stating the patient wasnt in that ward - then proceeded to cut me off mid sentence and transferred me to some other dept! I called again and could barely hear the nurse (a different one this time) talking - with staff shouting and laughing in the background. I was told the patient was in fact in the ward but that the doctor still hadnt done his rounds and seen her yet and that I should call back later. I just called again and spoke to a nurse - I think the same rude one who transferred me this morning - this time she just kept saying call again tomorrow and then put the phone down on me! Clearly shes one of the bad eggs. On a positive note - I called back earlier this afternoon and spoke to a very professional and friendly Sister Maguma who said shed pass my number onto the doctor and hopefully the doctor would call me in the morning. So at least there are some professional and courteous staff working there.

Beds are rusted and broken and are not even wiped down with disinfectant between patients. Filthy and disgraceful. Staff only there for a salary and not because they truly care about the welfare of patients. A patient got no attention, so sat up at the end of the bed and peed on the floor. Two stars down because of the bathing facilities which were insufficient, hot water ran out by 6:30 am. Then they discharged me without giving my daughter her first vaccine, had to go there twice as they apparently forgot and only my Pediatrician noticed on my daughters health book for her first check up. But all in all, staff was kind and the maternity and labour ward was clean compared to the horrific feedback I got before I went there. The rest of the hospital is not so hygiene though.

The doctors, surgeons and Physio department staff were very good and helpful, but the nursing staff on the 1st floor are atrocious. They allow a mentally unstable patient to roam freely through the ward harassing and accosting the other patients in the ward, resulting in physical violence. My mother who is unable to walk herself to the bathroom has waited well over 30 minutes for assistance from the nursing staff after repeatedly asking for assistance only to be rudely ignored. I had to call the Matron to assist. The food is almost in editable and the ladies who deliver the food are rude and abrupt with the patients. The tea and coffee is pre-made in big pots and sorry for you if you do not drink milk as they refuse to make tea without milk.It is a shame that tax paying citizens who are not able to afford private hospitalization are subject to this kind of treatment. One star each goes to doctors, surgeons and physiotherapy staff. Two stars lost due to incompetent and rude nursing staff.

Worst experience... Been having chest pains, for about 3 weeks. Went to doctor last week tested blood. She prescribed meds (the bad cholestrol was 600% higher than it should be!!), and said if the spray under the tongue doesnt help to please go to emergency. I waited 5 days to see if meds would work... It didnt so I went to emergencies on Monday night at 6:45pm. I only left between 4-5am (to be expected, thats not the problem). There was only 1 dr and he really didnt want to help me... He basically told me Im waisting his time, as I shouldve gone to the day clinic! Even on the doors (for those struggling to understand basic logic like yourself, dear doctor) are pictures for where to go for what condition. As Im writing this I still have chest pains, but apparently Im considered a green code case.I have to go back for my blood test results and was told that I will have to wait it out the entire time again until they have time to give me my results... BUT I know for a fact if he wanted to he could get it for me, as someone I met there that night had her results within 20min the following evening from a different doctor, and she was also told to take Panado and go home... And BTW from the results she is flipping sick!!! He told me Im abusing the system the government has put in place... Why because Im white? My husband lost his job a while ago, and we could afford medical them, I have an autistic child and cant afford medical/even treatment for her as everything is super expensive with special needs. We live in same house as my mother. Etc etc, not that I needed to explain this to you, and I didnt, dear doctor, but you were so shocked when I told you that I did pay to sit there. You thought I jumped the gun all for free... And only after you heard I did pay something, did you even bother to draw blood...If I could give this experience -100 stars I would. It didnt even deserve the 1... And this is not just me. I befriended a couple of people while waiting, and NONE of them got the help they needed!!! Literally NO ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I asked to be referred, because all over the walls are posters for patient rights... Yes you sit long enough to know those posters of my heart, word-for-word!!! And he refused! My father, all his brothers and sister, their father and mother, all have died or have heart conditions, and all revolving around the same cholesterol issue as mine... And he still didnt have enough motivation to write me a referral. You dont deserve to be a doctor!!! I understand your working conditions are tough, you were there alone, blah blah blah, but your lack of humanity, care, bedside manner and all together treatment is SHOCKING!!!!If anyone cares I have his name, in his handwriting. Just cant make it out. Didnt ask him for it in person as I was too upset and in so much discomfort, but still Im classified as something similar to a bruised toe.

It was the most horrific experience of my life. The nurses were rough with me and my baby when we had some difficulties breastfeeding, to the point that I broke down in tears. The hospital was filthy, the bathroom was flooded in water, there were cockroaches everywhere, even on the bed myself and my newborn had to sleep in! On my first day I was bleeding due to the surgery and my sheets and myself were soaked in blood and they took their own sweet time handing out sanitary pads etc. I felt ashamed and embarrassed to be in this hospital and my heart broke for my baby when I saw him on the cockroach-infested bed. I got rushed from Alnisa to Somerset Hospital & the nurses are horrible if i should actually name & shame its most of the nursesI begged gynecologists & some students to stay with me just so i can go through my pains without being insultedGynecologists are great at this hospital but the nurses are exactly like devils this was the worst after care ever from these nurses....With all the bad nurses in this hospital it might aswell close unbelievable ugly nurses
