Been struggling for weeks to get my deposit back. Numerous phone calls and even a support ticket logged with Customer Service, still no luck! Even the support agents themselves from the central customer support branch is unable to get any feedback from the Cape Town branch managers Abdul and Gio.Do yourself a favour and DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THRIFTY, the cheap price comes with a very big admin problem trying to get your money back!

Despite having the longest queue of all the car rentals, I didnt wait that long. Plus a staff member went down the line apologising. There was the rudest man ahead of me shouting at a lady behind the counter. I hope he stubbed his toe later that day. Coincidentally I also ended up at the same ladys counter and she was just lovely - so pleasant and friendly. Another thing with most Cape Townians, theyre so warm and genuine. Also got an upgrade to an automatic car for free.

Do not rent a car from Thrifty Car Rental! I rented a car over a month ago and still haven’t received my deposit. Calling their customer care line doesn’t help. You get placed on hold without getting any information about the deposit, and then the line would cut. They only respond to the first email you send. After asking for your details, you wont hear from them again. So please, save yourself some money and don’t do business with them!

My father sent an email to them on Monday evening. He tried calling Tuesday they said their agents are busy and theyd call back after taking his details. This never happened so he called again only to be told by a voice service that he was number 2 in the queue for 10mins while holding on.

They have the worst customer service. Overcharged me. But took a while and struggling and numerous emails later to fight for your money back. Still not refunded the overcharged amount.My holding deposit of R6000 has still not been processed to be released to my account .. and its been 10 working days!! I returned the car on Sunday 11 June after having it for 2 days only. And there is always an excuse. No clear answers. Feedback takes ages. Waiting to talk to someone takes even longer, as the waiting time on the phone is ridiculous. Promises of calling one back never materialises.There is no accountability or responsibility from anyone. The numerous tickets that are created at customer service gets closed without resolution.My dilemma is that they dont honour their promise of refunding amounts or ones deposit. Why is it so difficult for them? Where is the money?Please rather try a different car rental agency. I have never had to struggle like this to try and get money back. There are much more reliable rental car agencies with very smooth- running systems in place.Thrifty is not transparent or honest and you probably wont get your deposit back at all from them. Be willing to make a financial loss with this company.Something seems fraudulent and they need to be reported on a higher level.

This is why people need to read reviews! If I had I would not have rented from Thrifty. I have been on the phone for half an hour waiting to be connected to the refund department clearly their modus operandi is to keep you holding on so long you eventually hang up! Terrible service. My experience as a first time car renter was the worst with Trifty. I feel scammed. No inspector on collection. I was told on return that there is a chip on the windscreen. Unfortunately for me, I never felt there was a need to do a proper full inspection on collection(being a first time renter). Despite the chip being so small, they deducted an amount of R2 477.41 the day after I delivered the car. Whether this transaction is legit or not, only they know. No one called to explain anything, I just saw that much leave my account. Even after calling for 3 hours, I couldnt get proper answers. I am still holding my breath on getting my holding deposit of R9 500. NEVER AGAIN will they see me. I am so aggrieved, They do not put customers Interests first at this company!

I have used dollar thrifty since 2013 but I am dissappointed that the waterkant branch lady & manager abdul malik has been giving me a run around they debited 6k from my account claiming that i have exceeded my 300km per day in a 3 days rental on wich i booked as a unlimited and even indicated to the patience lady that iam going to port Elizabeth she is now blaming the system for not printing the contract since 3 days before my booking they changed the system but forgetting that they shud be the one alerting you before you sign that ur signing a 300km or a unlimited vehicle i even got the car on 3 quarter tank with evidence sent to them n i even called patience to come n have a look before i drove i was even given a wrong car but now iam stuck with no answers its been 3 months dollar thrifty is becoming a croaky association with i wudnt recommend ever again but we now a lot of people will support u but one day u will miss our money abdul is returning to me even today they never called continue doing this to people but your day will come

AVOID!!!!Stay well clear from or rather run when you hear the name Thrifty.What an absolute miserable Experience dealing with Thrifty. If you want a a well planned Holiday spoilt, rent a unreliable car from Thrifty and expect to be overcharged. Writing a lengthy email and sending it to various Persons within Thrifty will only be a waste of your time. They will only ignore you. My advice.I wish I had,,,,, avoid, avoid, avoid. At all cost.

No way to contact them - get transferred from agent to agent. Emails go un-acknowledged and a client is simply exasperated at the lack of customer care! Was charged an extra refueling fee despite providing a receipt of refilling the tank to full- your rates are good, but your customer service is SORELY LACKING!

Do not recommend! First, they make you sign off on the inspection at the counter to get the keys, BEFORE youve even seen the car. This way when you get to the car and the inspector actually checks the vehicle youre forced into agreement. The cars are not cleaned properly before you take them off the lot. Lastly, when we returned our vehicle we were charged for damages, that were actually already on the car when we picked up. I never rented from Thrifty before this, and never will again. I highly highly recommend you reconsider other options. They may seem inexpensive upfront, but theyll make up for it by charging you on the backend. We will be going back to Avis from now on!

My parents used Thrifty Cape Town Airport for car hire. They took out Super Waiver....unfortunately they had an accident with a pedestrian running across the N2 highway*. Even with Super-Waiver they had to pay around R20 000!!!! Thrifty say “single vehicle accidents” are not covered under “Super-Waiver”....So consider yourself uninsured with Super-Waiver. Or shop around and see what other car rental companies are covering you for under “single-vehicle” incidents. Very curious if this is general market practice.*This actually seems to be a common risk in Cape Town as I also had a close encounter with people running across the N2. Even still, no one makes you aware of this or your increased risk to single-vehicle incidents.

Good day.On the 16/17 December 2020 my husband rented a car from the Cape Town branch.On his arrival he was unable to rent the car as he had booked the car using my Credit Card.However he was only notified that he cannot rent the car after the holding deposit and the rental money were taken from my account.Afterwards we had to go back to the offices at the airport twice to have the holding deposit released.And were notified that payment for the rental will be refunded to my account within 21 working days.As of yet, the money has not been refunded. No one is replying to any emails or answering the phones.This is just horrible service. I will make sure never to make use of their services again. And will discourage any one from using them.

Booked the most expensive car that they had because this was all that was available then there was something wrong with the wheel. They then supposedly wanted to upgrade me to a cheaper car, which I refused. I told them that I would only take the cheaper car if they delivered the correct car the same day. Correct car arrived dirty with half a tank of fuel and a key that was half broken and sometimes took up to 5 minutes of fiddling to get the vehicle to start. Very disappointing.

Worst car hire experience ever. Wont be using Thrifty again. They might be the cheapest, but they say you get what you pay for.I specifically booked the earliest flight so we could collect the car and make most of the day. Only to find a total disgrace with regards to the cleanliness of the vehicle. The interior was a shame, excessive marks from a sticky substance were all over the door panel, I won’t go on. Where are the COVID hygiene protocols? We ended up waiting a further hour for the vehicle to get cleaned as there were no other spare vehicles available. Boy, do I wish we took another vehicle, knowing what horror I was in for on this one.Car was given with a puncture on the rear right tire. Believe it or not, a low pressure on this tire was actually noted on the VIS before taking delivery. I didn’t take too much note of it and drove off to pump it up en route to my destination, only to find, when I got to the petrol station (a few KM’s into my trip), that there was actually a puncture in this tire (nail close to side wall - irreparable). I changed it for the spare wheel which was also flat and badly buckled (wasnt holding air). I have photos to prove. I ended up making it to a tire shop, where they repaired this buckled spare rim for me. This took more than half a day of our time on vacation. No compensation from Thrifty by the way…Brake pads on the vehicle were worn. I had a suspicion they were, as I could hear a bad scratching sound (metal on metal) coming from the wheels when the car was rolling. I had the tire shop confirm this when the wheel was off.Then there was a random and strange electronic pump sound resonating from the engine bay every now and then.For a car that was generally “new”, it was in real bad shape and not very well looked after. This car was a hazard and danger to the roads, including the safety of myself and fiancé.Upon returning the vehicle on a Sunday eve, I made note of all these mishaps with the supervisor in charge. I believe his name is Abdoel. He promised that they would give me a call in the new week to take further action and apologise. 2 weeks later and nothing, plus he doesn’t answer his cellphone. I wasn’t going to write this review, but I’ve received no courtesy call! You’ve got me on record, phone me and I would appreciate we sort something out.

WORST SERVICE! It is honestly a joke. I rented a vehicle from the 12th - the 14th of April. Returned it in good order and then received an SMS the next day from my bank that another amount has been debited from my account. No communication whatsoever from you regarding this. Upon enquiry, I am informed that it was for fuel, but that fuel has also been deducted from my deposit which is still being held.From here I have been sent from pillar to post and then finally receive an email stating: Please note that the vehicle was estimated to have needed 13.76 liters of fuel when actually it needed 24.06 liters. The fuel was added by the fuel department at head office as the vehicle did not return here. There was a refund posted on termination however, the fuel department processed the funds. There is still a refund of R1738.03 that needs to be returned.I pushed back on the above response on account of the following: I rented a VW Polo Vivo Trendline 55KW with a 45-litre fuel tank. I used a quarter tank (received the car with 8 bars on the fuel meter and returned it with 6) and drove 237KM over three days. Now based on the above 24.06 liters, this would equate to more than half a tank and would mean that my fuel consumption is 10.15L/100LM?! Really???? Basic math would show that this is utter nonsense and now absolutely no one is responding to me.I have rented many vehicles as I frequently travel for work. Thrifty is an absolute waste of time with poor service! And they feel entitled to fraudulently use your card to run additional payments. Be warned.

I am not very happy with Economy Car Rental and Thrifty. They are scamming customers with the following con - Economy advertise a good deal on a vehicle and when you arrive at the Thrifty counter you are given a vehicle that should be in a lower group. Eg. I booked minibus for my family of 6 and was given the similar instead, which was an Avanza. How do you fit a family of six on a 7 day booking into the Avanza. Therefore the reason for booking a minibus. Both Economy and Thrifty were quite blunt that the print on the contract says similar and in their books these 2 vehicles are similar. Please google both vehicles and decide for yourself. Before you rent any vehicle with any company, have them specify the similar vehicles. Might leave you in a predicament if you trust the rental companies.

I certainly will not be using Thrifty again, anywhere in the country.We arrived at Cape Town airport on a flight from Johannesburg and went straight to the Thrifty office, having a booked a car. The consultant was pleasant and took my details and credit card and processed the rental. She only then told me that the car was being sanitised at their facility about 1 km away, so would I mind waiting a few minutes?After 30 minutes I started complaining, along with several other people in the same situation. The manager assured me that the car was on its way.After an hour, we were still waiting and the manager apologised (again) and offered me an upgrade to an SUV. Okay, I can live with that.Another 20 minutes later we were finally called to the counter and handed the keys - to the same vehicle that I had booked! The manager had conveniently disappeared, so we accepted the car, signed the papers and left.In short, we were left standing for nearly an hour and half, with a promise of an upgrade to shut up our complaining, and then given the car that we ordered in the first place!!!I complained on the Thrifty Whatsapp line and the following day received the following:Thank you for allowing Thrifty Car Rental the time to investigate your matter. Our Branch has confirmed there was an unfortunate delay due to peak season. Thrifty Car Rental would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and we wish you safe travels ahead. Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us. Thats it. Peak season is their excuse? What did they think it was going to be like a week before Christmas? And just an apology? No offer of a discount or free upgrade on my next rental or anything similar. Words are cheap Thrifty. Will never use Thrifty ever again. I advise anyone to find a different car rental company. They are extremely helpful when you are a potential customer but as soon as the car is returned, they not only have no interest in processing reversal of deposit holding but they ALSO charged me for a WHOME EXTRA DAY “by mistake”. They (without any contact) charged me for 2 full days of rental (it was only one day) and did not pay back my deposit for over a week of calling them and them promising it would be done. Not only that - they tried to OVERCHARGE for extra mileage - I had to read all paper work and do my own calculations and tell them they were overcharging R300. When asked for my refund of a full day and mileage - they said “we have sent the request to the refund department and it’s out of our hands now” and was told they’re not sure when the money would be back or when it would even be processed. Shocking service, I am greatly disappointed.

I would never recommend Thrifty to any one. They are so quick to assist when youre coming to book a car but when its time to refund the monies that were withheld they come with plenty of stories. My husband was first charged a R1352 in error for days he had already paid in cash and qe had to rim around like headless chickens ro get the refund of the.money they deducted wrongfully. Now he is struggling to be refunded the cash that was held for the car rental since October and no one is as willing to help like they were when we were hiring the car instead they are sending us back and forth. Even though weve shown them bank statements proving that the money has not returned to our account. I am so fedup with rhis company as a result qe have decided to take this to Hello Peter for more people to see that Thrifty is a rip off company.

Rented a car by them for a month. After trying to get through to them and having the calls unanswered numerous times I got through and told them I want to extend for another month and was told I must go to the office to extend. When I got to the office they told me the new rate is double the rate I paid and if I wanted a better rate I should have booked online. I asked for the manager. He wouldnt come to the desk after I repeatedly asked for him, I was then told if I want to speak to him I must go look for him outside. I then went to speak to him outside where he was smoking cigarettes. The rude and obnoxious man was no help so I returned the vehicle and rented a better car from their competitor next door for cheaper. That rude manager who wonders around smoking cigarettes should be fired and they should make Abdul manager instead, Abdul is a competent and helpful person. I will never rent a car from thrifty again, even if they are cheaper than their competitors as they are rude and unhelpful and offer pathetic service. That manager is a liability to the company.

Everything went smooth with the rental and the process and I was happy with everything until I went to return my vehicle. The previous employee attached the wrong paperwork to my file, saying that I had rented a different car than I did. Thrifty said it was all sorted regardless of their error. Days later, I am noticing multiple charges on my credit card for various amounts from the car rental. I have tried to contact the customer service line, the direct location, and filled out a report online but have received no help. Not only that, but on the phone they are saying my reservation never existed.Many of these reviews mention additional charges, and I would highly advise people not to use this company as they also have no customer service.

We will never ever use Thrifty rental car rental company ever again.When we went to Cape town, we hired a car at Thrifty rental shop. We always used AVIS to rent the cars but this time we tried thrifty for the first time. When we got to Cape Town airport, they told us that they have to lock R6000 as a deposit. (Maybe this deposit is just for the foreigners like us) It was a big money but we had to let them do that. It was too late for us to cancel our booking and find another rental company.After returning the car, they told us that our R6000 will be unlocked and will be released within 5 working days. And it has been one month since then. We tried sending them emails but no reply, we tried to call them several times but what I hear all the time is that we will connect you to someone who is responsible, I felt as if I became a ping pong ball, and finally they asked me to leave my name and my contact details and they would give me a call back. Which never happened so far.Im waiting for the call which they promised me today when I called in the morning.When we used AVIS, we never confronted this kind of situation.Im not sure if I would ever get my money back. R6000 is not a small amount of money. Do we really have to take it to the court?For your sake, if you dont have R6000 extra budget for renting a car never try this company unless you are a lawyer.

Got a car from the airport. Got on the highway and sounded like the wheels were coming off. Phoned Thrifty and told them about the noise and they said I should go to Thrifty Somerset West the next morning. She will arrange another car for us by 8 as we had a long day planned to go sight seeing. Got to Somerset West the next morning and no one had organized a new car for us. Luckily Thrifty Somerset West had a competent employee that sorted us out quickly. This was a seriously negative situation.

Terrible condition ford double cab. Ive sent a complaint in to thrifty about four days ago and they havent even bothered to respond.The interior of the vehicle at the back was scratched to pieces, the ceiling was filthy, the canopy couldnt lock so exposed our goods to risk of theft. The seat belts were not prepared and the young counter assistant did very little to help us despite him walking past seeing us battle until I went to call him back.Terrible and thrifty think its ok to charge full rates?!

I hired a vehicle from the Cape Town Airport branch for 2 weeks. I got to the branch after have reserved a car online 3 weeks prior to arriving there. It was early evening. The price was very reasonable. The staff were courteous and helped me immediately. The vehicle that they gave me was the one that I wanted. It was in good condition and the gent who handed it over was prompt and efficient. Returning the vehicle was simple. A good experience. I would recommend Thrifty anytime.

We arrived in Cape town on a Saturday and we were desperate for a car . Due to us not having a credit card we were turned away harshly from a previous car rental company. We ended up at Thrifty and I was so impressed with the patience and courtesy the woman treated us with. We got a car the was clean and to make things better it was fuel efficient to. I was very impressed with the womans service. Sadly I do not remember her name but I now know that Thrifty in Greenpoint will be my first and only option because of her

Do NOT rent a car here. The price mentioned for your reservation via their website thrifty.co.za is not the real rental price! The directors of this company are acting like criminals. I booked a car via their website thrifty.co.za. When I arrived at their office in CT, they told me that the price I got on my booking via their website was not correct and I needed to pay an extra 3500 ZAR or 200 EUR! I argued that I cannot be made responsible for an error in their systems. They told me to take it or leave it. So I left it. What a horrible experience.

From the Time I walked into Thrifty C/H I should have known the problems I would experience. From the door there is someone with a clipboard which is expected to be filled out with details wit’s details I just filled out online-anyhow I complete the form while standing in line. I get to the desk after waiting 5/10 min to a consultant with a bad attitude. He then rattles on and demands I pay a 6000 deposit before I may take the hire car. I ask why was this not said online when making the booking he insist that it is online and I must check carefully. Not willing to argue I take out my credit card and pay the money. Then and there. He then goes on to tell me that I am in luck they will be upgrading my vehicle. Keep in mind I booked a group B vehicle-polo or something similar. To me an upgrade would be something with safety and maybe some extra space or features. Fine. The assign to me a Toyota etios I question how is this an upgrade to which he says it is ,And that’s a group C car. I ask can I not not stick with my group B car which I paid for and get a polo like the website said. To which he replies there is no polo or similar vehicle. I storm out just wanting to get out of thrifty and get to a vehicle which looks like a complete rebuild, and has been poorly repaired previously. Bumper hanging. Tailgate not closing properly just in a bad condition. I immediately go back to the office now frustrated to which the manager offers a brand new polo. I am shocked as I was just lied to and told there was no group B vehicle. He offers no explanation as to why the consultant lied and no apologies for the condition of the Toyota Etios. This could have been a safety issue with the quality of repairs done on that vehicle. I urge all people to inspect vehicle properly before taking a car from thrifty. I went on with my holiday with the brand new polo and had no issues with the vehicle. Upon returning the vehicle I have now waited a week for my deposit return of R6000. You call the call Centre and they transfer you from pillar to post with no timeframe of my refund. I demand someone from management make contact with me as this is unacceptable and not a way to run a business. If I could give a zero star I would. Reference Number: 1383608

Be very wary of using Thrifty at Cape Town airport. we hired a car with them for 10 days to do the garden route. Absolutely no issues with the car or the service received except one major problem. The staff took an imprint of our credit card for the vehicle deposit which resulted in our credit card getting cloned and someone going on a spending spree in supermarkets in Johannesburg. In total in two days they managed to take close to $1000 off the card. I reported this to thrifty and this was essentially ignored. I would never ever use this company again because of this.

Not too bad my car tho had glass laying inside window was replaced but not cleaned. Always chech when you rerun your car I filled the tank but the marked it as almost full
