The car was really neat and beautiful, it was a BMW 318i.Looked really well kept and maintained. Workers were very nice, professional and polite. (I even got a complement on my shoesπŸ˜‰)We made an online reservation and when we got the the car was all set and ready for us. We didn’t waste time at all. Same as returning it, it was real fast and easyWe are definitely visiting again πŸ‘πŸΌ

Im giving 5 stars only because the customer service is excellent. The manager at this location has been excellent in getting back with me and assisting from day 3 of my rental. He and his team has made me feel like a valued customer.Currently I am being charged by corporate for a mechanical problem with the car. Not my failure, but the blame has been routed to me. That I am totally disappointed. But SA corporate failure has nothing to do with this location team.

Disappointed for the following reasons:1) Cleanness of the car2) Was charged a fueling fee although I returned the car with a full tank3) Handling fees for speeding tickets are higher than the fine itself (i.e. ZAR 325 vs 200)

Top service from the lovely ladies who helped with pick up my car. No silly up sells on more insurance or hidden fees. Professional and efficient service and truly top class from someone who have rented cars all over the world. Was lovely to come back to South Africa and get such a great service .

I do not understand the negative comments below, but i can advise you that i have had nothing but excellent service from First Car Rental. The entire process from being contacted regarding delivery, deposit payment, return and deposit credit was nothing short of exceptional! The company literally went out of their way to deliver the vehicle to me at work and the return of the vehicle took less than a minute. Thank you First Car Rental!

Very bad experience. I should have considered the previous comments that I saw online. After returning the car they charged me for refueling 10 litters while I had expressively asked to the guy at the gas station to fill it to the brim just before I delivered the car at the airport. The person in charge of checking the car when we gave it back to the company clearly wrote on the form that the tank was full. Nevertheless they charged us.They also charged me more than that the invoice declared (precisely USD 36 instead of 20). We sent a complain online but the money was already taken from our credit card.My advice: avoid this agency if you are not a local.

Booked though Sixt. Car was good. BUT BE CAREFUL!1. They will charge you with fuel even when you give back the car full (ALWAYS KEEP THE RECEIPT of your last refuelling!)2. They will charge you with E-Toll fee without warning you first, or giving you the opportunity to waive it. E-Toll is a joke, you can always pay by cash at the toll, and you will avoid the R30 fee each time you use the device!3. They will literally withdraw the amount of the deposit (R5500) from your bank account when all other rental companies will just block the amount on your account in case. So enjoy the bank currency exchange fees!!!10 days after complaining officially to them, and having to call them back, the case is being processed, but still not solved.Definitely not up to the Sixt standards worldwide.

We have booked a car from abroad and experienced the worst rip-off we ever went thru with a car rental company. Not only that the car was old and dirty, it was also less equipped then booked, parts of the car did fell off while we left the rental company.Having then addressed the issue to the rental company, they responded that there are no other cars available no matter what group weve booked, we either take the rotten one or none.Having booked several times with Avis, we know that this business can be handled different. So when you want to spend your holiday with car failures or complains about the rental company use this one, otherwise go to Avis where such issues are unknown

Really bad service. When we arrived they told us there is no car available so we should come back in the evening that they can get a car from the airport. When we came back they forgot to organize a car so we had to go to the airport ourselves to get a car. We were stuck in traffic for 1,5 hours and at the airport it took again 45min of waiting and paperwork (that we did already) to get the oldest car possible. Really disappointing.

My advice walk 50 meters and you will find hertz. The people working at First are not helpfull. They are not listning to you, they are only busy with themselves. We had returned the car completely filled up. After a few days that we returned the car we received a bill of 30 rand / 1.80 euro for refueling the car. 30 rand ?? That is literally the gasoline that they used to drive to the gas station?

An unethical company whos employees hide behind illogical policies. Rented a car for 4 days. This rental was booked and paid for through travelstart.co.za. Picked up the car on August 16 at 7:15am and returned it on August 19th at 10:20am. Booked for unlimited millage which was indicated on the voucher i received from travelstart! I was charged R3000 extra for millage. They claimed that i returned the car too soon. Upon further investigation the final invoice reflected that i collected the car at 10:20 and returned it at 10:20. This was clearly altered by the staff at the branch location. Tried to resolve the matter with the manager who said the booking is closed and that he could do nothing. Phoned customer care who mentioned that if i booked and paid for 4 days but returned the car early that its my problem and that i would not receive unlimited millage. Shouted at the regional manager who could not even determine what happened (Or she tried to shift the blame to travelstart and the other 3rd party vendor) - She refunded me but i will never rent a car from this company again! My advice, go elsewhere! Look at the other reviews! And to the person who writes the generic replies to these reviews, dont even bother! They are as worthless as your effort.

Unprofessional and unethical.** UPDATE AT THE END WITH THE COMPANYS LACK OF RESOLUTION **I rented a car from this company for two weeks and I had two major issues with them so far.1. When I received the car they told me that there is a handling fee of 30 ZAR for every toll I pass, and that the toll charge is charged automatically.I explicitly told them that I dont wish any toll to be charged automatically and asked them to remove the toll device from the car. When I asked that, the representative told me with complete confidence there is no need to remove the device. When youll get to a toll they anyway ask you if you want to be charged with the device or not.I was naive enough to trust her word, and when I got to a toll, nobody asked me anything and they charged automatically from the device.I asked from the toll representative to cancel it and that I would pay cash directly, but it was too late. The problem is not the additional 30 ZAR I needed to pay.The problem is that since I add additional charges from the car company, they needed to use my deposit to pay those charges. And then, instead of unfreezing the transaction of the deposit, they needed to withdraw the full amount of the deposit and then to refund me for the deposit amount minus 80 ZAR (30 handling fee plus 50 for the toll). This made my bank converting from ZAR to USD twice, and for a really high amounts (because it;s a deposit of 3000 ZAR)!First, 3000 ZAR were withdrawn (charged in USD), and then 2920 ZAR were refunded (converted to USD).This caused me to lose a total of 23 USD!!!Normally the deposit charge is just frozen and after the return of the car this amount becomes unfrozen and the bank doesnt need to make these conversions. This unprofessionalism from their side cause me to lose 23 USD.2. I discovered with an email notification from this company that I got a 800 ZAR traffic fine. The fine is obviously my responsibility and I will pay it directly to the authorities (as I did in other times when I got a fine with a rented car), but the outrageous thing here is that the FIRST company charged me for 300 ZAR handling fee!!!I NEVER consented for such handling fee, not to mention that I never encountered a HANDLING fee for traffic fines from any other company, since Im the one who needs to pay the fine and therefore HANDLE it.I wouldnt recommend anyone to use this companys services, there are more reliable companies out there who might be slightly more expensive but wouldnt try to earn money from you in these ways.** UPDATE **I opened an inquiry with the company regarding the second issue (handling fee of 300 ZAR, just to transfer the traffic fine to my name).Their response was directing me to clause 4.1.3 in the agreement that says: 4.1.3 All fines, taxes, charges, levies, legal costs and tolls, including e-tolls, payable by US to any third party arising out of YOUR use of the VEHICLE. There are two things that I find deeply disturbing with their answer.1. This clause is talking about charges that THEIR COMPANY should pay to a THIRD PARTY, for things that ARISING OUT OF MY USE OF THE VEHICLE.But in the email they sent me with the fine notification, their explanation for the fee was: The reason why an administration fee is applicable is due to the fact that we have to redirect the fine from our proxy’s name to the responsible driver at the time of the offence, which requires software, software support fees, permanent Traffic Fines department staff – all of this in an effort to avoid being responsible for all offence amounts that are accrued with our vehicles.Basically, it means Pay for our inner operations regarding traffic fines, which is definitely NOT A PAYMENT TO A THIRD PARTY!2. They didnt provide any documentation of a payment they had to make to a third party, what makes me think that they might as well could charge me for 3000 ZAR or 30000 ZAR, without needing to prove anything.BEWARE!!!!

Staff was very friendly. However: The car is the worst I ever had. No cover in the back, so everyone can see the suitcase, great to be stolen. No central lock, no way to adjust the back mirror, this was the cheapest wreck I habe ever rented! And it broke down, replacemend needed 3 try outs - so I wasted 2 hours on 3 days of my holidays to wait for them! NEVER AGAIN!

Before renting from here - please read this:As someone who spends half his life travelling for work and renting vehicles for both work and pleasure. First Car Rental in Cape Town is possibly the worst place I have ever tried to rent from. They will force you to pay online for the car, but it is very likely that they will not release the car to you in person unless you purchase their extra coverage, or will state an imaginary policy as the reason. Essentially they straight up stole my money. I didnt receive a vehicle I paid for, and was put out of all my plans for the day with no hope for a refund.I implore you to spend your money elsewhere - I know First Car Rental might seem like the cheapest, but there is a reason for that. Any other rental place is a better choice. Save your time and money and learn from my mistake.

Horrible experience.During our trip we caught a great hail, and soon after we called the emergency number to report the incident because there was little damage to cazzozzeria. On the phone we were told that in the event of natural disasters, nothing is chargeable to the customer and to say it on delivery. At the time of receipt no one has been able to clarify anything about the responsibility of the driver. After a few days they deliver an invoice in which they announced that they will retain all the deductible for the damage. E was unnecessary to write over and over again for groped to assert our reasons, continue to repeat in autism so that they do not care that it is natural disaster. It a real scam, considering that the telephone information tend to make you autodenunciare what happened then legitimize them to withdraw all without even properly assess the damage!

I have booked a vehicle online from Germany for a long tour through South Africa via a large price comparison portal. The reception in the city center office was very spartan. There were two counters and a small couch for waiting customers.I got a Renault Captur with a navigation system. The car was almost new and was really fine. The problem was the insurance. I had taken out fully comprehensive insurance without a deductible and had a puncture. This is not covered in the South African insurance. Now I have to clarify the damage in Germany with Check24, because they take over the additional services. The damage was only documented on site in Cape Town.
