Me and my wife Thaisa Vellasco have hired a car (toyota starlet) just for one day (june 21th 2021) and we had a good time with the car. However, after we returned the car with full tank this branch have charged us like it was not full (even showing the photo we shot before delivering it) and they didn’t remove the credit card security block. They are still charging us 7.650,00 rands (security credit card block) even after asking them to remove it. If you can, just avoid this Hertz branch!

Complete RIP off cat rental, employees are fully aware and seem to enjoy. DO NOT RENT HERE! Made my reservations on Expedia for $307 including insurance, ended up charging my credit card nearly $1000. Reserved a Corolla, got a stripped down vs with no cruise control also! Took and hour to get car, wasnt even filled with gas and no windshield fluid. Terrible experience!

This place is extremely shady. I have rented a car over 100 times and not once have I had an issue, and these people are the worst. After getting two hubcaps and windshield wipers stolen off the rental, they “quoted” me R4,000 for 2 hubcaps off of some homemade spreadsheet that marked up the parts by over 200%. That was after they refused to quote me for the costs until I signed the drop off form and would not explain what I was signing, we sat at a standstill until I ran out of time and had to move on. The cost of minor replacements was more than the rental for 6 days. You can’t trust anyone at this location, I watched them all tell customers different things to keep them away multiple times.

Shady place. They already had scratches under the bumper and minor ones on wheels, prior to me renting the car and they blamed me and charged my credit card for it. In USA, even if I was to blame, such minor scratches would not be used to charge the client. Definitely take pictures of the car thoroughly if you are going to rent from here and also lock your credit card. They are also very hard to reach and not helpful during a dispute - did not send me a copy of my rental agreement despite several requests.

We had a really great car rental experience with this service crew. We booked the car online and picked up the car with no issues at all. Paperwork was really quick and they were very flexible with the return time (within 24 hours from the pick up time, irregardless of the return time per booking). The staff also offered to put in an additional driver for free. Return was super quick and easy. No claim was made by Hertz and I received the final invoice shortly. The staff even drove us back to our hotel. I can safely said this was the best car rental experience I had after traveling to many cities!

I have lived in South Africa and visited short term. My first time there, I rented through Europcar and had a great experience. However, when visiting a second time they were out of cars and rented through Hertz. Getting the car and the paperwork went smooth as well as returning the car. I have been home since (now May 2019) and just had 6 fraudulent charges to my credit card from Hertz in South Africa. When I talked to them, they said well “we can’t see the charges unless you give us your credit card number.” The reason they could not see the charges is because my bank jumped on the first charge as fraudulent and did not authorize them. They also suggested maybe they were toll charges... 6 MONTHS LATER. My question would be, how long do credit cards stay on file? I HIGHLY recommend to now rent through them not only because of the charges, but their ability to handle the situation when I called. I can only imagine if there were issues what it would have been like to handle that as well. My card is now turned off, but I will never rent from Hertz again ANYWHERE at home or during my travels.

My family and I rented a car from Hertz Loop Street in Cape Town last week. It is without doubt the best car rental experience I have ever had.The initial car we picked up wasn’t big enough to fit my surfboard but I came back in and Elroy and the team helped me find a car in the same class that was a perfect fit and at no extra charge.I left the house keys in the previous car and the guys kept them safely in the office for me until I returned to pick them up. We needed to extend the booking as well and we managed to do all of this with no delays at all. Every time we phoned the team picked up immediately, were extremely polite and considerate and went beyond their duties to make all of the interactions relaxing and efficient with smiles and good humour!I have gotten used to experiencing long delays and a high degree of apathy in most service industry experiences. Elroy and the team at Hertz Loop Street are really fantastic - they take pride in their work and making sure that customers feel properly looked after. That is a rarity in today’s market and I really want to thank them and highlight their excellent work!

Was suppose to rent a car from Hertz before going to an important appointment. My SO made the booking from America. Upon arrival I am notified that they need the credit card and the person whos credit card it is must be present. Refused to use my debit card and when they tried my bank refused authorization which I am so grateful for when reading the rest of these reviews. Thank you to your staff for your pitiful customer service and saving me the drama of fraudulent charges to our credit/debit cards. I will make sure no one ever uses you again. Pathetic.

6 months after hiring a car in Johannesburg, my company credit card was debited with 14 small amounts on the same day (3 Oct 2019). TOTAL: R3870.90!I called and was informed that the Cape Town branch handle the accounts. I called the Cape Town branch who admitted that the deductions of R295 each, was a mistake and they refunded the money in 11 separate payments on 8 Oct 2019.Then at 2am I was woken up by several messages from the bank as Hertz deducted several amounts of R295 again. I was forced to get up and cancel my credit card by reporting it stolen, just to get the deductions to stop (30 Oct 2019)As per previous reviews, this scam is done on a regular basis! If they steal from all their customers, several small deductions of say R295 then imagine how much they steal monthly or annually! R295 thousand or R295 million, who knows...!

After a long wait to arrange my pre-booked vehicle, they required a 25,000rand deposit on my credit card (50,000rand if I hadn’t taken their entry level insurance package). If you don’t have a large enough credit limit for this, your only option is to pay for their expensive full cover insurance package to 0 the deposit. Cancelled the booking and went to Avis where I have never experienced this issue.

Returned the car at loop street station. were a bit too late. really friendly stuff, quick check, got our invoice immediately, did not have to pay any extra charges. what really catches my attention is the fact that people who were happy with an experience/did not have any troubles do not often post reviews. of course, those unsatisfied rather do it. that explains the vast amount of negative reviews.

NOT HERTZ (A franchise). AVOID. Charged me 1000 euros for a one day car rental without a legal basis. Eventually my money was returned. Got a very bad vibe from this business. If you see this review at the last minute, just cancel your reservation and get an Uber even if you are going to the Cape. Its going to be easier and likely cheaper. You cant really go to the police in SA, and Hertz SA isnt interested. Read the other reviews, my experience wasnt unique.... be smart, avoid.

Hi all I tried to call Hertz car rental at the Cape Town Airport. After trying it for 3 times and waiting for someone to pick up the phone, unfortunately this did not happen. Than I called Hertz car hire in central Cape Town. Same problem. Now I did run out of airtime. Customer service only 0 stars which is not possible this is why there is one star.

I have rented a Ford Focus for six days. Everything went fine! I booked the car in advance via Internet. The pickup was done fast and I got a car that had some scratches, but was in good condition.The return was also very fast. It took just 10 minutes and nothing was claimed by Hertz. I would rent a car again at this place!

This place is a joke! My husband booked a car for one day and when we showed up they asked for the credit card we booked it under to pull up our reservation. After we gave them the card they couldn’t find our reservation and told us our reservation was not made with this credit card and asked for a different one. Of course we didn’t give them another one and showed them hertz charged this card as it was on our statement. We never got our car and will dispute the charge with our credit card company.

While they’re busy fleecing you on jacked up insurance costs and making extravagant claims to generate fear and giving you a jalopy when you paid online for the higher end vehicle sitting right next to it, they’ve got their hands in your back pocket feeling around for your wallet. What a gip. I booked a car online and when I got there, I was advised I needed two credit cards. Apparently it was in the terms and conditions. I called up two days before I picked the car up and asked SPECIFICALLY what I needed to bring and the guy told me a credit card, passport and ID. A CREDIT CARD Then the chap behind the counter tried to rent me a crappy car for twice the money (only one credit card needed) cause he didnt want to leave me high and dry. I read the reviews before I rented there and was apprehensive but should have taken more note. The big guy with the bald head is not your friend. AVOID.

Rented a car. Drove very carefully on major highways and parked it in secured parking areas. Upon return the guy pointed to minor scratches way under the front bumper and on the rim of the wheel and charged me $300 for them even though I had NOT caused them. I had had NO collision with any car, object or road bump etc and nobody had vandalized the car (who would vandalize it under the bumper anyway?). I had failed to see the scratches when I took the car given the scratches were underneath the bumper and on the alloy of the rim that was hard to see. Also, the scratches were minor enough that the US Hertz would have just waived it and yet the South African franchise seems a stickler about them and would rather lose a long term customer like me (a common theme across all Hertz rentals here - preferring making unfair short-term profit over keeping long-term customers).

We hired for 8 days, reserved online and I had the car within 30 mins of entering the shop. Dropped it off at the Airport for no extra fee. We rented the Polo and it was clean and new, not much grunt under the bonnet thought :) The only down side is that they hold a lot of extra money on your card and a deposit. I think this is policy at all the rental providers it just was not clear when booking.

Poorest Hertz I have been to. They need to try harder. A massive queue and a team of three who plodded about seemingly oblivious of the frustrated customers in front of them. Poor processes with desk staff doing dispatch and going out to and checking the cars with customers while their desk stayed empty. This process seemed frequently to take at least 10 minutes per hire.

Really good experience collecting a car I booked online. Most impressed by how the staff on 18 March 2017 at 9am handled an ignorant American who thought that she could book a car without insurance and have her credit card insurance cover it. Thats not how it works in South Africa. Proud of how they stood firm after being insulted by this heinous woman.

Dont ever rent from this Hertz location. The reviews are correct: their service is slow and they are useless. Takes minimum 30 minutes to do their paperwork and collect vehicle. They make you take their insurance which I am sure is illegal. My credit card covers me so I always decline rental car insurance - they said they could not possibly waive it unless I had a LETTER from my credit card or insurance company. When I insisted they tried to charge ZAR 285k to my credit card (without explaining what they were doing - WTH ?) I have never in my umpteen years of renting cars encountered these problems. Oh, and they had no information of my booking in their system - rude, worthless rental car agency. AVOID.

Upon collecting our vehicle from Cape Town airport we first of all received a different car to what we had paid for and ordered. This would not have been an issue had the replacement vehicle been similar to the original. Unfortunately it was not. We questioned this with the counter staff who informed us that we would be able to collect the original car from the Cape Town depot on Loop Street the following day.When we arrived at Loop Street and explained the situation we faced incredibly rude remarks and appalling customer service from David, who could barely give us the time of day or recognise our issue. We were lied to our faces when told that no vehicles were available for our use despite the vehicle we had originally ordered being sat directly outside of the office with a ready to rent tab visible on the windscreen with the keys on the dash and check sheet on the windscreen as per usual collection set up. When we raised this with the staff a loose story was erected about how this car belonged to staff and that our vehicle was exactly the same if not better than the car we had requested.What they failed to realise was the fact that we own the vehicle we had ordered as personal cars at home and so are more than familiar with the car and can clearly notice that the car we were supplied with was far from similar.Hertz offer awful service, terrible reliability and advertise and sell you a service and car you will 9 times out of 10 never recieve!DO NOT USE HERTZ!!
