Very friendly staff. Dark, exposed brick building- some people say it has a dingy look - but this is on purpose and creates a great vibe! Reasonably priced drinks and a great pool section upstairs! Open late every night too, so you can always expect a full evening here!

Long standing pool bar that stayed pretty much the same throughout the years. Several different “pool rooms” all with different music themes and “tin shack” interior styling.

I thoroughly enjoyed coming to this bar, never been here prior but I met so many people doing life their own way and that brought a smile to my face. The staff looked to be having a great time which in turn made my friends and I comfortable. The vibe was 10/10. The dive bar experience was 10/10. Will come back :D

Loved it! It has a similar vibe to Trench town. It is a nice place to chill on a night out. Theres lots of pool tables and it closes at 4pm.

The shack is one of my all-time favourite always a lot of funky Spanky alternative people hanging around.Pool tables are still only to run again and liquor prices are very reasonable.Music selection in the four different by area is always at the spot on.

Five stars for when you’re ready to make poor life decisions and have no ragrets about doing so. Always ask about the drinks specials - and always tip the excellent bar staff!

4* but understand what youre getting: this is a young persons pool hall. Food is pizza and chips, not much else, cooked by a single lady in a make-shift kitchen. The pizza is actually ok for a student dive. And the ambiance is exactly what youd expect, incl stupidly low prices. So 4* for getting that right. We had fun playing pool and were ravenous for pizza.

First time visiting with friends, the pool tables were in good condition. I feel the shack is a great bar. Will definitely be coming back. For those wanting a comparable experience. It if far better than most stones venues.

The dirty hard rock ambiance of the upstairs pool tables contrasts well with the fairy light exterior tables where one can meet many-a nightly adventurer. I love it :)

The Shack is a shining example of a last resort bar. It used to be the ideal spot, honestly; friendly staff, great drinks, great music, good food.However, now The Shack seems to have taken it upon itself to be more and more like its namesake. Its a multilevel shack, with alcohol for sale.The staff have become jaded and one can tell that they just do not enjoy their work environment.The music playlists have changed to appeal to a more, popular locale (not what The Shack was intended for).The drinks have become watered down and overpriced...Ultimately The Shack has taken on the mantra of rock is dead and they killed it. Its sad.At least Prison: House of Rebels, Evol and Stones (Observatory) still stand and rebel against that attitude.

I have too many things to say about this amazing place. Most of my memories here are out of this world and I recommend it to anyone and everyone as the crowds here are all chill, no matter who you are. You can walk in with a elf outfit and nobody will look twice (has happened before).

I remember Shack to be a great place - good music and a true grunge celebration. We swang by on a Sunday afternoon for a quick game of pool and a drink.Soon the music became terribly commercial (bad house/rap junk), loud and frankly unsuitable. Since we were the only two customers on the floor, I politely asked if the music could be changed.The response from a jaded barman:Well I really like this song, so unfortunately not.I find this rather reprehensible. We left soon after.

One of the most legendary spots. It is where everyone goes to after the bars and clubs in town close. You can always count on The Shack! Personally I just wish there was a dance floor.

The Shack. Probably one of the cheapest places to drink in whole of the CBD. The vibe is chilled, people love coming here despite there being many fancier places to go. You play pool here, sit outside or jam a game of foosball with mates. People are mostly friendly here too and its next to Mercury as well which is handy. You can dress down here and not be judged. A terrific place to visit with friends or to meet new friends.

This place is bit of a dive. But a dive where you will always have an amazing time and a very chilled time. Its the perfect place for pre drinks or just to have a chilled night with some friends and play pool. The staff are always very friendly. Deffos a place to go.

Grimy dive bar. Great place to catch up with your mates over a round of pool (they have 6 tables) or Foosball... You wont wait long for a drink, there are 4 intimate bars to alternate between. Interesting bunch of cats & dogs of all ages prowl and howl around. Emphasis on grimy though...

Always a random crowd, good music, a variety of bars and vibes. Outside area with fairy lights :) big bouncer, he can be quite mean from time to time, his job I guess. And best part is the fact that it closes at 4 oclock in the morning

What can I say. . Unchanged over the years. .chilled place with a few different bars and some pool tables to kill the time. .reasonably priced super casual venue aimed at the student life. . Also 1of the last places to stay open in town so tends to get busier after 12 midnight. .also serve snacks and light meals till 2am.

Great place to party. Good music and cheap drinks. Pool tables and foosball tables galore. Really great rock and roll atmosphere with five different bars, so service isnt a problem. Open until 4am.

This is worst bar I have ever been too. The manager is a complete racist and the staff are violent and drunk on the job. This place give the worst service in Capetown and tend to racially profile they customer. This is not a place to be if you are black individual looking for a chill spot. All you will receive at the shack is hate and brutal threats from even they minimum black stuff especially they bouncers or security. I was violently attackes by they stuff members on two occasions and they security makes it a habit of harassing me every time I walk past to Amal corner shop down the same road.

Great dive bar where the double brandy special is cheap, the crowd is hip but not pretentious, the bar food is fantastic, and to top it off it has 7 pool tables, 2 foos ball tables and arcade machines. Smoking is allowed inside though so if that is a put off steer clear

Great double brandy and coke specials too!In every city Ive ever lived, theres this one place where you feel at home, where you could walk in wearing your pyjamas and not turn any heads. For me, this is it. Loads of memories of games of pool and drinks tied to this place.

The Shack is a firm fixture in Cape Towns night life. Go here to shoot some pool and knock back a couple of Jägermeisters. The barpeople are always great, and the music is generally grungy-rocky-good for a chilled night out with some mates.
