Looked for a spot to have coffee & dessert after supper and decided to try something different. In honour of Heritage Day we ventured into this restaurant to experience an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. Desserts are not a big part of Ethiopian meals, but our Waiter (Richmond) was charming and we enjoyed the delightful atmosphere. We decided to return with friends, to have a meal and experience Ethiopian cuisine. We totally loved the vibe in this space. Please visit them to experience the meals of a different culture, in a very friendly atmosphere.
We went in January during lock down, it was such an amazing experience. The food eish was to really good. 100% recommend. I will certainly go back again.
This restaurant is a must! They serve one of the most delicious Ethiopian cuisine Ive tried, the portions are generous, their vegetarian options are completely vegan and the menu refers to vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. The personal was very friendly and engaged explaining the restaurants serving tradition. We sat upstairs in a wonderful decorated room that certainly made the experience memorable. If you go in a big group, make sure to order some starters while waiting for the main order and also recommend to try the teas and fresh fruit juices.
Delicious food, beautiful decor, great service. Full service restaurant that truly focuses on the experience, especially if you go in large groups! If you love eating family style and eating out with friends this is the place to do it. We only spent a week in Cape Town, but we chose to come here twice because it was so amazing! The first time we ordered 6 meat/veggie combos with 6 extra orders of injera and it was the perfect amount of food for 9 20-something year olds. The second time we got 2 vegetarian, 2 meat, and 2 combos. Both times were delicious, but we wanted to try the separate meat and veggie options because they had additional things in them that the combos did not.
Super attentive, friendly service from Richman. Food was solid, esp the Tibs Lamb (spicy) and the Doro Alicha chicken (sweeter). Good portions. Fun time.
Really delicious, authentic Ethiopian food! Wonderful, attentive service that walks first time visitors through the experience of eating Ethiopian, then delivers on every expectation. We had a large group and were very easily accommodated, and couldn’t help but fall in love with every dish on the combo platter (I always expect to not enjoy at least one of the dishes, but not here!). We were so impressed with the overall restaurant we felt we had to leave a review. Will definitely come back when we return to Cape Town!
Lucys is a great Ethiopian restaurant. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, the ambience is chill, and the coffee is excellent and authentic. Best shared with more than one friend. Highly recommend the three course Set menu which came with a starter, the main course with 7 different dishes to taste, dessert, and coffee and tea. It was amazing!
Very delicious food at fair price and good quantity!
Expensive, but great experience.Waiter really knew his stuff and made us feel super welcome.
I liked this place as Its not the sort of restaurant I would usually use, but I met a man who treated me to a wonderful cup of coffee with fresh popcorn in traditional style. What a unique experience that I will treasure. The service was excellent and the man I met was friends with the owners.
Super friendly service, every single question that we raised was answered. The food was absolutely delicious. We had two combos with in total 4 dishes and a starter in advance. Everything was super tasty. Glad that weve had the chance to try it out today. Thank you for the welcoming service you offered to us.
Great service from the staff and authentic, delicious food. One of the best restaurants we have encountered in Cape Town during our vacation. Can’t recommend this place enough. Best Ethiopian food I have had.
Food is fantastic but he prepared to wait a while. Speed is not the order of the day here. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is delightful.
From starter to dessert, everything was perfectthe dishes are beautiful and good. the flavors are balanced and everything is very fine.the decoration is warm and workedthe staff is really very considerate and kindthank you for this beautiful evening
Phenomenal food and phenomenal service! Really enjoyed the vegetarian option. Best restaurant Ive been to in Cape Town.
Lovely experience. Hands get washed very caringly before eating beautifully presented Ethiopian food
Absolutely loved this place. The staff were wonderful and the food was even better. The whole experience was one of the highlights of my time in Cape Town. We went on Saturday night and would have went again on Sunday but they don’t open sundays. Best to call early in the day to book a table as they are usually pretty busy. Don’t come to Cape Town and not eat here.
Service was lovely. The waiter was kind. I love Etheopian food.... And it was tasty, but the price was a bit steep compared to the other Etheopian restaurants in the area. Decor also a bit lacking, hence the 3 stars.
Exellent, perfect Service!!!
Very interesting restaurant!Good exotic food with an excellent service
The dish we order was super delicious with vegetarian side dishes. Richman was super helpful. I highly recommend to eat here.
Delicious food, beautiful décor, great service and friendly staff! Id recommend the mixed set menu!
One of the most amazing Ethiopian restaurants I have been to anywhere in the world. The food is delicious and an unmissable choice for anyone who is vegetarian or vegan!
Delicious meal and amazing service, Rich man our waiter went above his call of duty to ensure we had a great night. Would definately recommend if you are wanting a full flavoured African experience!
Youll find this beautiful little restaurant upstairs in Longstreet. A real traditional Ethiopian Restaurant and have many deliscious selections to choice from. Also vegetarian- and vegan friendly. Services are served with a smile. The restaurant has an African touch to the place.I would definitely recommend visiting the place if you are in town.
An awesome experience. So friendly and the food was delicious. I can’t rate this place highly enough!
Good food and friendly staff
I would recommend Lucys for its culinary experience. Intresting and and tasty food with very friendly staff that explain each of the food items and how you should eat it.
Amazing food, great service, beautiful ambiance. It is a little more pricey than other places around. But if you have a big group, this is the place to go. They also offer vegetarian and meat options.
Ask for Brendan - Amazing food, amazing service!
Great service and good food. Really enjoyed the more spicy items on the menu.
My girlfriend and I were very well treated. The service was great and the food delicious. Its an interesting place, strongly recommend!
Awesome experience trying this kind of food, unknown for us.It tasted delicious and Richman, the waiter, was very kind and helpful explaining and advising us the best way to enjoy the menu.
Very nice atmosphere. Nice calm music. Felt very authentic. The owner is a young lady who also serves the food and is very friendly.
The food in this restaurant is very disappointing,The Enjera they serve is not Enjera at all , the test is horrible, I don’t know what is in it , I am originally from Ethiopia and lived in North America for a long time , visited a lot of Ethiopian restaurant , this one by far the worst.. sorry . Nice decoration thought!
Good value for money and comfy seating
Very nice experience. Good food, good atmosfeer and excellente service by Richman. I would recommand it.
Its an experience! Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. 10/10 would go again.
Lovely atmosphere with good food & service. The injera was a bit thick and I thought overall quite pricey - especially the veg dishes.
My boyfriend and I spontaneously visited Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant and we are so excited to have found such a gem of a restaurant. The decor was beautiful and the food was so delicious and filling. We recieved great service from our lovely waitress Haset and we cannot wait to go for dinner again. Thank you!
Great food and extremely good and friendly service. A highly recommended experience!
Great experience. Food is super tasty, but a little underwhelming. A tad pricey.
We had a very very delicious mix plate in an absolut comfortable ambience. Very authentic. Definitely a recommendation.
Amazing Ethiopian Coffee... Strong strong ☕☕❤️
29 Dec 2018The restaurant is well decorated with Ethiopian culture, so is the dining and serving of food as well as the music. The staff are just friendly. Before serving they bring a aluminium jug of warm water to wash your hands before eating. After eating there are warm wet towels to wipe your hands.Food is served the traditional way of a shared plate. We selected the combo and used a 2 for 1 entertainer deal. There is a huge savoury pancake made from fermented rice and teff flour with a choice of two curries which the waiter poured over the injera. We were served additional injera bread too.We opted for the rice injera as it came complimentary with the curries. If you want the traditional teff injera you would pay additional. The food was eaten with the hands which is the traditional way very similar to Indian. The menu clearly states all vegetarian meals are fully vegan. There are over 7 curries with over 5 side dishes. The experience was lovely and a must to have. I always find restuarants give small portions, this was not at all an issue here as the portions are quite filling. A combo for two has stuffed us three!I have eaten at a number of Ethiopian restaurants. This has been the best so far with a more cultural experience. I however would have prefered the platter option with 5 curries which is what Im more familiar with, however is only offered on the lunch menu
It is a lovely and beautiful place .They are friendly and the food is delicious .
Awesome and frendly plus value for money
Good African food
10 times better than Addis when it comes to portion size & super friendly staff! My favorite Ethiopian restuarent that caters for vegans/ vegetarian.
Cultural, food can be improved.
Very good food. Great service and the prices are very reasonable
Incredible food, wait staff and ambiance. This has got to be the best Ethiopian restaurant in Cape Town.
We order the mixed platter and had a great dinner experience, accompanied by really friendly staff
This place was amazing! Great service and amazing food!
Really great Ethiopian food and friendly service. They played music louder than what was pleasant and the chairs were a bit uncomfortable albeit genuinely Ethiopian
My first and only time never to forget that it was best to my point of standards, I and my Amoré were union of one thanks.the best.
Amazing food and service. Great hideaway on the craziness of Long Street.
Food is great but massively overpriced
Amazing place. The food and the service was beyond

Fake...you order two platters and they bring you the amount for one! Its a rip off and I wouldnt recommend it. Two stars for the cold beer!
