Fantastic family owned restaurant in a restored farm cottage. Food is great - definitely worth the trip or a detour. We came back twice for the lamb shank. Save room for the dessert too. Malva pudding and apple crumble dessert are the perfect end to a delicious meal.

Food was really good. Staff were attentive and available. Starters were just the right portion and tasty. Think the souffle was slightly overdone. Mains were great especially the venison trio. Not great at social distancing. Place has a beautiful setting and ambience. Should try if in the area.

Lovely place with really good food.From the outside you’d assume it’s an average priced old Swellendam restaurant, but once you see the menu you realise it’s not.Food and drinks aren’t cheap but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our food and how quickly it came.My only wish is that there was craft beer on tap.Otherwise, worth the visitWe also received complimentary soup at the beginning which was a nice touch.

I don’t know how this restaurant doesn’t have the michelin star yet! Perfect perfect perfect! I hope i will see a branch in Saudi Arabia soon.

Had the highly regarded lamb shank and a blueberry apple crumble. The food was really fantastic and the staff were very welcoming to us and our baby. Also enjoyed the roaring fire.

The food is excellent — great quality traditional french food with an SA twist. The chef went out of his way to discuss dairy and soya free options for my toddler daughter who has allergies. The lamb shank and venison trio were delicious!

We had a wonderful evening at Drostdy Restaurant. Although we didn‘t have a reservation and they were fully booked, they let us sit outside in their beautiful garden. The food was absolutely delicious. Especially the trio of game was extraordinary and accompanied by nice starters and nice wine. A big recommendation when you are in Swellendam.

Wonderfully presented, delicious food.I let the chef know that I was vegan and he assured me that he could give me a few options - boy did he deliver! The starter was the standout for me (it had some amazing homemade vegan mozzarella which was wrapped in crispy filo on top of some salad bits all arranged in a tower) but the main (vegan bobotie) and dessert (granita and fruits) were great as well. You can tell the chef takes pride and care in what he does and is eager to please all patrons.My wife had the risotto and trio of desserts which she loved as well. All in all a lovely evening which was inexpensive considering the amount and quality of food we had. Would highly recommend dining here!

Lack of Covid protocols but the food was of a high standard, if its my last meal, I was worth it. Starters were garlic snails and bread. Mains were lamb shank that fell off the bone. A trio of venison was 3 times the deliciousness. Dessert was the chocolate brownie. Totally worth a visit. Sit by the window or outside to keep safe.

Wow! One of the tastiest meals I have had this year. Everything was so thoughtful and so tasteful, the food, the wine, the venue and the staff. Fantastic evening and food, with very good prices (R140 for a main course). I would definitely recommend.

The owner told me they uaually cater to international guests (more than locals). Has changed now with lockdown.Ive visited the restaurant on a few occasions, always trying different items on the menu. I dont order starters anymore for the simple reason they are very, very tiny. I have on 3 occasions ordered starters, and each time a different starter - each time a small portion. So when I eat there, I go directly to the main meal while friends try starters first.We took friends recently and they were thrilled with the good, wine, late sunset (!) and magnificent scenery.The owners are lovely... I dont know them , but have met them and chatted before at the restaurant.A husband and wife team. She is the face of the business and he is the French chef.

Very old farmhouse from 1775 rebuilt in its current location provides an intimate dining experience. Lovely food beautifully presented and good value. Friendly and attentive staff made this an unforgettable experience.

What a wonderful place!! My father and I have been stopping here for decades and it has always been wonderful. New owners now and it is even better. The menu has grown and the food is spectacular. Presentation is astounding and the service very attentive and friendly. We will be back.

The food is great, cozy place, great service! Really enjoyed it. The meal with 3 different kind of meats is a great choice to try exotic meat from Africa.

This restaurant is located in a small town in the middle of almost nowhere. It was along the Garden Route and we were hungry. And we stumbled upon this, one of our favourites! Their dishes have quite a “French flair” to it but was cooked nicely. I highly recommend the “game platter”, where they cook 3 types of meat you find in the safari. We tried Ostrich, Kudu and Impala. One of them was exceptionally delicious… but I have to admit I don’t know which.

The one and only place you cant go wrong when it comes to the best food, best service and the best hospitality. Food are 10/10. Well done to the shef!!!

6 of us wanted to celebrate a birthday. We were refered by a local to Drosty Restaurant. We were invited to have aperifs by the fire. A special soup, followed by rack-of-lamb and delicious desert. The presentation was superb. Service coudnt be better. PietAll agreed that it was the best meal they they had

First, there was a small greeting from the kitchen. Already with these 3 spoons of vegetable soup we knew that the rest of the evening can only be great. The food is absolute taste explosions and in addition with a love for detail prepared ... That does not get better.Atmosphere and service great and the prices are also completely adequate. For a bottle of water, 1 glass of wine, 2 main courses and 2 desserts including tip 35 euros.Do not miss the Drostdy, should you stay for a stopover in Swellendam.

Freshness on the menu ...Its true in the home, its true in the plate. Very good place where young professional people have set their bags after some international experiences. The good South African cuisine is further improved, see sublimated, by the French chef, the service is just as exquisite. The value for money is exceptional. We go quiet, certain to spend a good evening. We ended our trip to this country by this restaurant, which softened our bitterness of departure.

The complete disappointment of this highly acclaimed restaurant! Neither the service nor the quality of the food was adequate. The table was covered with an unironed set with a hole. Service ran around disoriented the whole evening, wine was never refilled, nor was anyone asked whether the food was tasty. The steak ordered well done came after 70 (!) Minutes bloody on the table, without vegetables or decorations, just fried. The plate looked like it was in a cheap pub. Never again, the worst meal weve had in South Africa !!!!
