Very nice selection of local wines by the glass and draft craft beers.I had the Wijnhuis Hamburger with very good French Fries. My wife ordered the Beetroot Carpaccio Feta Orange Pumpkin Seeds Zucchini, unusual.

A beautifully decorated and cosy intimate venue for friends and family to have lunch our dinner. Menu is broad and food is of a high standard. Pleasant evening all round with the feeling of being in the cellar or wine tasting room of a nearby estate.

Very place good for Lunch, coffee, diner and wine. Very cosy terrace outside and also very friendly service.We had an excellent lunch here.

One of the best restaurants in Stellenbosch with a huge selection of wines. Wijnhuis means house of wines... Stellenbosch is a wine region with some of the best wines in the world 🍷🍷 but dont miss the Aperol Spritz with the snacks that compliments the drink... Dont be in a hurry. Life is to short to let good moments rush by.

Very nice and cosy place with fantastic selection of wine and a proper recommendation of what to order regarding wines (you need it with so many choices). Unfortunately the grilled calamari were too dry, the peppercorn source tasteless and the waiter new/not good.

Very good flight of wines for tasting at a mere R50 for six. Also great selection of 20 wines per glass. Found the per glass price a little steep, and the one taster was oxidised, otherwise my rating would have been 5. Love the feel of the place.

Beautiful Space with great wine and food

Love the fact that Wijnhuis is not over crowded like most of the other coffee shops - that is what caught my attention and the reason we decided to sit down. A bit on the expensive side but great tasting food.

I have been here several times over the years and it was always pretty good back then but I was terribly dissapointed on my last visit. Food was below average tasting and poorly presented and very overpriced considering the quality of the food. It was not just my food that was dissapointing but several of the people sharing my table. One even had to send back his food due to being unedible. No compliments to the chef unfortunately.

This place is great. The food and desserts are delicious and exquisite. The atmosphere and dedication to wine really sets the setting in high regard and lives up to its name of Wijnhuis meaning wine house.

The guy at our hotel recommended it. Not sure why. I mean, it was good, really good, but it was priced like an American restaurant, which means it’s way overpriced here for what they serve. I have to dock stars for the menu prices, they’re just too much.

First thing I took note of was, though the place was packed and sounded like we needed reservations, the people there made sure we got a table and didnt have to wait long for it. The service was fantastic with a very warm and patient waiter. The atmosphere was amazing, not too noisy but with enough chatter around to set the vibe. Lastly the food was top notch. I had the sirloin and it was very well prepared, juicy and flavourful. Portions looked small but I was filled in the end. Definitely a place I wanna go to again

Especially when celebrating with your Son or daughter going to Stellenbosch university having just started or visit. The ambiance is warm, welcoming and they have a good selection of food and wine. Really festive and yet not crambed

Restaurant was nice and service friendly. Waiting time for the food was >1h compared to everyone arround us who received their food quickly. Food was by far not exceptional, average at max. Would not go back again...

Best food that ive had for a while! Amazing service and we waited 20 minutes for our food. Definitely try the ½ line fish and ½ grilled calamari. Delicious!!

We went for dinner on a not so busy week night. Service was slow and not very attentive. A main course order was forgotten. Very little care shown. Fish was cold. Mussels were not very flavourful. Im not sure how an establishment like this gets it so wrong. Its a great pity considering their long history and great location. Whole experience was very underwhelming.

We got to sit outside and it was wonderful, people on the street were friendly and the staff too! We sat on a couch and the food was great. Wijnhuis has a cozy and relaxing ring to it.

2020 started with a bang as we ended our visit with friends with fine cuisine and super service at Wijnhuis on advice from hubby Peter Cyster. when we called they were fully booked, but they made a plan and put us at in front of the big screen to enjoy awesome music . We loved each dish we ordered, cooked and plated to perfection. Our friends from PE, Ocean View and US thoroughly enjoyed their offering and ambiance. Service excellence for sure.

What a delight! Wonderful destination stop. The building is full of character. In hot weather it has a retractable roof.. And beautiful courtyard in grey stone. Decor has soul.. Including the Cigar Lounge. Great service! Great Food! Great Coffee!

Great as always, but they no longer hage the cigar lounge and cigar menu. That was always the highlight of Wijnhuis. So much for so-called progress. But food and service was excellent.

Great environment and nice relaxing music. But that is about it. It is not a place to be in the daytime. I had to wait nearly 15 minutes for someone to help me after I was seated then another 10 minutes just for a cappuccino.

Very nice our food were good. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The wine was a bit pricey. I bought wine by the glass for a 150ml I paid R55.

Hardly anything went right, my partner wanted spaghetti meatballs, asked for beef meatballs as lamb was on the menu for a different item, waitress said yes they can make beef, but they brought out lamb which she cant eat. She ended up just having the pasta with sauce and they still made us pay for the meatballs. We ordered 2 sauces, pepper and red wine sauce, which never arrived to the table! I had ordered my steak medium to well done, it came out well done. The food all came out separately, by the time the chips came out to the table most of the food was cold already, seriously why must we wait a further 5 minutes for the chips! The waitress, dont know her name, but she wasnt very friendly or helpful at all, a couple of times we called her over but she just ignored us and did her own thing, she didnt deserve a tip and didnt get one either! Such a pity as the restaurant looked like such a nice place but food and staff let the place down! Will definitely not be going back there again!

Absolutely delicious food! Definitely worth a visit.Signage isnt very prominent so we walked passed a few times looking for it. Just ask around and people will point you in the right direction.This is one of the better restaurants and the food is prepared with skill. Even the blue 250g fillet steak was warm in the centre.

It was to be just a laid back supper with friends. The setting was very nice and the atmosphere cozy. The attention to detail in the presentation of the food could have been better and the general customer care left much to be desired.My companions had the burger and was inpressed w ith the very good quality beef patty. I had the roasted pear salad - one of the very few vegetarian options on the menu, and the different ingredients was fresh and tasty. All in all an average experience with a rather hefty bill. The company made the evening a success - no regrets.

Greatly disappointed by this establishment. I was there last week with a friend and ordered what I was told was their speciality, which was the sirloin on the bone. I ordered it medium rare, but it was tough and pretty lacking in flavour. That it was priced at close to R300 made this experience the more unpleasant.

Great food with a wonderful vibe. Yes they have a phenomenal wine collection, but no pretences. Perfect for a romantic evening, an outing with the family or a meal with colleagues.

Excellent! Love the food, the mood, the location and decor. The staff are friendly and the wine selection is one of the best I have ever seen in a restaurant. The food is tasty and interesting and very reasonably priced.

Location and service are great but value for money is 3/10.Way too overpriced for such basic food.Also, there are almost no vegetarian and vegan options.

This is a nice place to come for dessert and wine or coffee, after dinner downtown. I recommend sitting in the courtyard, which is pretty and calmer than the main restaurant. Its also good for starters - I love the fired artichoke - but Ive always been disappointed with the mains.

It used to be a wonderful place with excellent food. Now the service is lacklustre and you get a R92 glass of wine in a filthy glass. Overpriced menu, and you are lucky if you get service at all. What a pity.

Walking in looks beautiful. Sat down, waited to be greeted, nothing. Had to ask for menus, called waiters twice with no response. Walked out in the end

For a well-known and prestigious restaurant the service has been nothing but dreadful and foul compared to any other restaurant in the whole region we have ever visited. For future visitors - move along before you visit this overrated restaurant that spells out nothing more than neglect.

Its a gorgeous place and the service was fine but its seriously overpriced.

Wijnhuis has 20 wines available for tasting by the glass. This can be paired with the Cremelat or Healey cheddar cheese platter. It has a beautiful court yard and classy dark wood furniture. Lunch specials include fish and chips, BBQ ribs and chicken snitzel on select days paired with CBC lager or Amber Weiss for less than R100.

Fantastic! Was greeted at the door with a quick wine tasting. Had one of the best medium fillets Ive ever had - it melted in my mouth. Service was fast and friendly. Micro-brewery beers and an excellent whiskey selection meant I didnt even have a chance to get into the wide array of wines on offer. Expensive? Maybe. But I would repeat the evening without hesitation.

Visiting for the first time we were greeted and seated with such pleasure. We requested to sit upstairs in the sun, however the waitress we were handed over to was so unpleasant. Great food, but unpleasant waitress and experience

We were there with more than 16 people (day before a wedding with the whole gang). Very solid service. No complaints. The food was amazing as well. I had the Springbok wrapped in parma ham (and tried the Ostrisch too), both very delicious. I would recommend this to others and will return when Im in the area.

We had a lovely business dinner at this restaurant. Wine selection was great! Food was mouth-watering delicious. Service was friendly and helpful. The venue was slightly noisy, as the sound echoed a bit. Food is very expensive, but this was expexted given the socio-economic group that the Wijnhuis targets. Someone pointed out that the menu has not changed at all in the last 5 years or so, which is something to keep in mind if you would have liked to try something new.

While the food is good, especially the steaks dishes, the wine is ridiculously overpriced and the service is below par. We were also visited by a cockroach while having dinner. If you are looking for a great steak in Stellenbosch, The Hussar Grill is definitely better, by a mile!

What would Stellenbosch be without Wijnhuis. Best Aperol ever! Thank you Frank and Innocent. You are the best hosts/cocktail makers ever! And I believe Wijnhuis makes the best burgers in town. So if you like your Friday nights under African sky with a tinge of cool Continental ....Oh yes, and then theres Paolos DJ music.

Average. Nice ambiance. Steak was ok. Pasta was overcooked, fritto of zucchini was oily. They offer wine tasting, which is nice, but we had no guidance with our wines. Overall a bit pricey. Our hotel recommended it, but not entirely sure of their motives. Would not really recommend.

An exquisite, intimate and cosy restaurant. Think the typical soapie setting and you will find with their phenomenal wine selection as well classy food serving and selection. There are two floors, one which caters moreso to a summer and/or daytime outside feel and as well the second floor, which splits into a supreme dining area and then there is a lounge section.

Such a lovely selection of wines from all over the western cape. A comprehensive library and so much to learn. The food is gourmet and tasty.

Painfully slow service from start to finish. Waited an age for everything.When the food did eventually come it was actually really nice. However an addition one of our party of 4 had ordered didnt come and the wait staff didnt take the time to pop back to see if everything was okay. We ordered another round of drinks but they never materialised.A very simple meal took over an hour and a half and when the bill came we had been charged for the things we didnt get. AVOID.

Actually one of the best restaurants in SA. Just order the Fillet of 350g and you´ll bet the gladest man / woman in the world. I don´t get all the complaints. Event the wine bar is awesome! ´d go there with my whole family!
