From the moment we stepped into this heritage space we were greeted with excellent hospitality. We couldnt decide which wine to drink but our waiter explained 3 bottles that we could choose from. Moving on to the braised rib starter to the sirloin main and a side salad it was one mouthwatering explosion after another. Highly recommended.
Delicious food! Simple base dishes but executed exquisitely! Fantastic flavour combinations and rich and tasty enough to not need a huge quantity. Really beautiful setting to sit outside under the trees on the quiet street. Very happy after our visit.
I wasnt going to write any review, but because our previous experience was so sublime, I feel the need to say why Saturdays experience was a bit mediocre. Prawn toasts were great, but the artichokes disappointing. The pork belly was too dry and overcooked, and the mussels en papillote, although perfectly done, had too many tough pieces of lemon grass, detracting from the eating experience. The chalmar steak was beautiful, but the fish, again perfectly cooked, did not need the topping of tomato - its flavour overpowering the fish. Both desserts were top class.Having eaten at Jardine a few years ago, where every morsel was outstanding, the experience this time did not meet our expectations. The set menu layout could have been explained better by the waitress. We ended up ordering more food than we could manage because extra dishes are interspersed, which confused us. I did ask for some clarification, but she wasnt very clear and the bill ended up much more than we expected with quite a bit of food wasted. The finesse and menu knowledge displayed at our previous visit, was lacking. She could have for instance been more informative and advised us that the side dishes were not necessary. I hope you take our criticism in a positive way in order to improve on the standards.
Magnificent! Our first visit to Jardine Restaurant and we were delighted with the overall experience. It was a special event with wine pairing from Rainbows End. The first course George Jardine whipped up as we congregated on the pavement in front of the restaurant. A morsel of delightful curried mussels nesting on a toasted bunny pillow. Now that our senses had been woken we headed inside for our next pairing. A peak into the open prep area revealed the chef activity around the next course of Stemed Pork Belly Dumpling with artichoke which paired with the Merlot. Our final savoury course with the Family Reserve was a red wine poached Hake, garlic and cauliflower. The Chocolate Fondant, chantilly and coffee icecream with the Cab Franc rounded off the affair. Very good food, service and atmosphere
Adequate service but a long wait even though we were the only group in the restaurant on a business lunch which we stressed was not for leisure. The food was good though sparse for the price.
This is Jewel of note. The Venue is intimate and rustic. Servies is good with staff who know their product and make you welcome. Although the menu is not extensive. The food is simply out standing. I rate this restaurant as one of the to 3 meals I have eaten. Thank you for the care taken in preparing each course.
Absolutely amazing salmon. Possible the best Ive had. Friends meals were also great. Would definitely go back
The food at Jardine is simply amazing! There is a limited selection (3 starters, 3 mains, and 3 desserts), and you can have either a 2-course or a 3-course dinner. Considering the size of the dishes, Id recommend a 3-course dinner. The food itself is beautifully presented, and taste is out of this world! Having skipped the starters, we had the agnolotti and the springbok and both were excellent. The desserts were good, but nothing spectacular compared to the mains. The only reason Jardine is not getting a 5-star rating is that during the course of the evening quite a few tables ordered the fish main course, and the smell in the space quickly became quite fishy - which also gave away the fact that the fish was not fresh. Will we go back? Definitely, as soon as the seasonal menu changes!
Great restaurant with sophisticated organic food, fine wines, elegant, detailed and, the same time, simple interior.Must visit & worth travel. Not for a quick bite, great for dinner and a deliberate lunch. The book of the story of the chief, his approach and recipes is available to read and to buy.Impressed!
Lovely restaurant and setting. The food and service is excellent.
Not my first time at Jardines and once again the food was delicious and appealing to the eye. The only downside was the dessert choices for me. Having had a sample menu sent and the dessert choices being completely different was a bit disappointing, but the experience as a whole was great. We received great service from our waitor who made us feel extremely welcome. Each menu was also personalised to show the reservation guests name which was an additional personal touch.
Beautifully crafted and presented food. Good, knowledgeable staff.
Excellent fine dining experience at a reasonable price with an ever changing menu. The special winemakers lunches and other occasions are not to be missed.
We were seated in a quiet place by the chimney. The menu changes often and I have read other people have been disappointed on other nights: our dinner experience was fantastic!Appetizer: Yellowfin tuna and citrus cevicheMain course: Aged Chalmar filletDessert: House baked brioche pain perdu, Cointreau soaked raisins and orange blossom ice cream. All this for a reasonable price. Plus great company so it was a perfect evening.
Sister restaurant of Jordan. The food was very good. Loved it.
Jardine never sets a foot wrong. Delicious meal and so accommodating of our kids.
A lazy afternoon lunch with a good friend ended after three courses and as many bottles of wine! The menu was well balanced with plenty of choices for all. I opted for the terrine to start with which was packed with flavours and textures - delicious. This was followed by some perfectly cooked Salmon and the meal was finished off with a fondant au Chocolate to die for. Awesome staff / service topped off the perfect afternoon!! Really making an effort to appeal to the pockets of locals which is great too.
I have no notes. We had a perfect evening. Delicious food. Exquisite service. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
The food here was great, and the service was good too, the only reason why I am not giving this place 5 stars is due to the attitude of the waitress at the end when the bill came. We did not give her a tip, as we had our reasons, but then, she had the audacity to came back to us with the bill and demand we tip her. This is appalling and for that, I am glad we did not tip her.
Lovely to sit outside on the pavement in beautiful Stellenbosch with a glass of bubbles
Very good value for a delicious night out. Vegetarian friendly.
Everything was quite nice here. Would have loved a little more enthusiasm from the staff though. Food was excellent.
Small menu, great bread and aioli but skip the rubbery, overcooked mussels.
You will never be disappointed here!
Excellent food and choice of wine.
Errr.... Amazing! How come so few Google reviews?!Probably the best meal Ive eaten all year. Fabulous mussels to start in a singed papillote, followed by a stunning cylinder of hake in pea purée decorated with zucchini and associated flowers and topped off with a classic chocolate mousse with raspberries and a touch of caramel .If fact, by just writing this review, Ive decided to return tomorrow night for the 6 course tasting menu! If you miss this spot, you miss out!
What a disappointment!!After the most beautifully presented starters which were delicious we were excited about our next course.A small salmon portion arrived dry which I sent back, the next portion arrived completely raw and sent back, the last lot was completely tasteless and to add insult to injury my partner had to eat his dinner on his own!!!.My husband,s springbok was well presented with a delicious sauce but he felt was over tenderizer with a texture of sawdust. What was meant to be a happy Birthday dinner left us feeling highly disappointed and would not want to go back there again. For the prices they charge one would think they would be more consistent.
Absolutely stunning food.Loved it.
Dear reader,The restaurant it’s self is good. Service I could not fault. The menu albeit small was fixed and is nothing special.Good location for a short stroll around town if a nite cap is required.
Excellent food and service
Food and service were great.
I am a food pleb. I couldnt tell nouveau cuisine from Steers. But this was special. And Chef Jardine is also involved in efforts to train young people for the hospitality industry. That makes the creative and tasty preparations exceptional.
Brilliant, always brilliant - service and food. One of the best in the country. Definitely worth a visit.
Charming, unpretentious restaurant in the heart of Stellenbosch. We loved the vibe, but the service could have been sharper.First ate on 23 Feb 2019We decided to try it as it was ranked 9th in the South African Eat Out guide for 2019, and it did not disappoint. I had the duck liver parfait to start, salmon for mains and the cheese platter to finish. All three dishes were fantastic, but the crisp skin on the salmon really put this dish over the top.
Amazing! Staff and food was amazing
Was so grateful for the recommendation that brought us to Jardine. A small menu executed to perfection. Do not miss this lovely restaurant when in Stellenbosch.
Lovely little restaurant, stunning dishes. Friendly good service.
Fine dining with ever changing menu! Love it.
One of the best Restaurants in South Africa, best to make sure uou make time for this place.
Great food and wine pairing.
Fantastic restaurant. Small awesome seasonal menu. Amazing service from friendly professional staff. Hake starter and fig carpaccio was delicious. Vegetarian onion tarte with goats cheese was one the best veggie dishes had in a long time and the roast chicken dish was fantastic. Interesting desserts too. All topped off with a great selection of wines at reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
Great food. Great service.
Highly enjoyable. Service is kind and attentive; food is excellent and the menu changes frequently making return visits enjoyable.

Best in Stellenbosch...
Great food
Le JardineIn the middle of Stellenbosch a relatively inconspicuous little restaurant, in which one is greeted by very friendly staff. The Agnolotti with goats cheese are the first flavor explosion, the Zucchini cream complements the gustatory experience. In the second course it continues with a juicy-creamy mushroom risotto with a fine but distinct flavor, the beef, however, is a touch too chewing intensive. The Nektarinenmus crowns the conclusion of the 3gängigen menu. Overall unpretentious, culinary surprising, with cordial service and good value for money. We recommend!
Very friendly staff. Interesting menu.
