Firstly , this was an experience.Walking up that dirt road to this unsuspecting barn, added to the whole atmosphere. The service was excellent. They have a well-stocked bar, you can order glasses of wine individually instead of going for the whole wine tasting add on.The food was incredible. As far as tasting menus go , this was among the best Ive ever had and value for money. The celeriac course changed my life.I left this place with a lasting impression , I will definitely go back.

For the love of all ignore the random 1 star guy he isn’t even reviewing anything... this place is awesome ... been a couple times now as it’s close to home , and cannot compliment the food enough, always worth a visit and service is incredible, yes it’s not a lose your mind party venue I’ve never experienced “shushing” because every time I’ve been guests have been enjoying their partners as for the 1 star guy... please take me to your grandmas house if she can cook like this , and honestly if you say you can cook above this level... how much to see you try. Trust meFolks try this restaurant and come back repeatedly

For me, the best way to describe a fine-dining experience is to compare it to visiting an art gallery and appreciating the work of those who are masters of their craft. Though the craft is food preparation and the location a restaurant, its still artistry!-We’ve been wanting to go @Fermier Restaurant for the past four years and finally managed to do so in celebration of our 11-year wedding anniversary.-Just like walking through an art gallery and being surprised with a beautiful or, more importantly!, interesting and challenging piece of art around every corner, Fermier delivered on every part of the experience. From approaching and entering the unpretentious venue, to being tended to with great care by the staff; there was not one aspect of the experience to fault.-With the open plan dining room and kitchen, the food theatre started and while watching the masters perform their craft, dish after dish arrived each delivering an experience of its own. Lobster and crevice … just bring us the pot of sauce, we’ll lick it clean. Sweat bread – Google this one! Asparagus with duck egg and truffle. So many more until, finally, berries, liquorice and dehydrated! chocolate mousse arrived to make sure our minds were properly blown.-I don’t think I will ever get tired of the feeling when a dish is placed in front of you and then going through the process of first seeing it, then tasting bits of it, then all the elements together and finally sipping a well paired wine and being left with varying emotions such intrigue, happiness, feeling perplexed, challenged, satisfied and, equally important, learning what it is that you do not like.-Finally, they did a stellar job of catering for my tree nut and avocado allergies. My dishes were just as complete and I didnt feel like my life was threatened nor that I was done in.

Fermier is up there among South African culinary powerhouses. Its evident they strive for highly skilled food art set in a rustic and unpretentious environment.Every aspect of the experience has been carefully designed to delight. From the reception in the parking lot to the presenting of each course, no part of the journey is haphazard. There is not much I can say about the food, except that it is a rollercoaster of flavours, textures, colours and aromas. Youre not going to love every single dish, but youll certainly have your breath taken by the impeccable style and art youll behold at each course.Fermier is a must visit if youre curious about food and appreciate food as an art form.

They were very efficient and food was brought in a timely manner but didnt make you feel rushed with each course.

Wow! What an experience! The food is really next level, beautifully presented and expertly planned flavours. The poached oysters was out of this world! What we really liked is the atmosphere. At a lot of fine dining restaurants its a bit stiff and it feels like we need to wisper, but not at Fermier. Its homey and warm and we felt welcome!

I had made a reservation for my husbands birthday way ahead (11 days before his birthday). The reservation was confirmed by the restaurant. Despite the confirmation, I got a call from the restaurant on his birthday, five hours prior to our booked slot, to inform me that because of an over-booking of guests, they would not be able to cater for us. This is highly unprofessional, of poor form and just unacceptable. They could have informed me earlier and not on his birthday if they were aware of an over-booking of guests. Also, why must I be asked to reschedule a reservation that I made 11 days earlier for this apparent over-booking of guests

Uncommon foods I have never had before cooked to perfection and plated as works of art.The set 9 course menu is said to change with the seasons. Almost all of the fresh greens is grown locally in the greenhouse next door. Beverages and meats are all sourced within South Africa.A perfect venue and uniquely South African dining experience.

Pretentious, overpriced, and serious delusions of adequacy. Take a vow of silence if you dont want to get reprimanded for excessive conversational decibels in a shack. Yes, a shack. Portion sizes would be excusable if the culinary experience was mind blowing, but the best I cold say about my favourite dish was that it reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. You can do better when it comes to food, service and ambiance. Its a great place to come break up with your significant other... they wont even be allowed to raise their voice. By the looks of it all, this establishment is nothing more than an ill-conceived ode to the chefs egos.

We heard about Fermier from a friend who highly recommended the restaurant. We were definitely not disappointed. We had the nine course meal with wine pairing. Each dish was delightful and unusual. Most of the other restaurants seem distincly pedestrian in comparison.

We had an intriguing start to or Valentines evening date. After parking our car on a dark dirt parking area, we were escorted via flashlight on a short dirt path, over some steps and into a quaint sink roof building with about 15 or 20 other couples. We could see about 5 chefs preparing food to the one side. We had a preset menu including quite a few courses of food with a wine pairing. The wine pairing was excellent. The food, which consisted of small plates of something beautiful, was between ok and excellent, depending on the course. The portion sizes were unfortunately very small (compared to other 9 course menus weve had), leaving you wanting more of especially the good plates of food. The waiters were fair, stumbling over words a little bit.Overall, we had a nice evening, but for the expensive price of this meal we wanted more..

Very nice French restaurant with set menu. They grow a lot of their own food. Compared to Brasserie de Paris, which we had been to a month before, this place is a LOT better! The food is, for the most part, really good. You get a welcome drink upon arrival. The atmosphere is really nice, and the staff are really friendly. This is a fairly expensive restaurant as far as restaurants go, but for its class, its actually quite well priced. I would recommend it.

Before the Eat Out awards were released, I predicted that Fermier would break onto the top 10 scene. By then I had not been there but could already see that foodies were warming up to it. It didnt get the rankings (11/30 nominees) but is definitely worth a visit. The location is rustic, farmstyle...a welcoming waiter meets you at your car and walks you in.. most galant as he pulls out your chair ...this attentiveness made possible by the size of the place, possibly a 26 seater... happy to accept the complimentary MCC rose enhancing the romantic setting. It was a school night so it was a real toss up about wine pairing or ordering a bottle to accompany the imposing 9 course degustation menu...the helpful sommelier navigates you through this decision...The sourdough bread.with the silky butter and duck liver pate on a bed of nutty dukka is to die for, followed by pulled pork unexpectedly warm despite the deceptive rings of cucumber on the top...crab with pickled cabbage and a tasty broth, followed by an oyster, smacking of the sea, with apple celery but I wasnt sure if i liked the texture of the poached oyster ...while these dishes were yummy I did feel the lingering prominent taste of the duck liver and was glad for the crisp sauvignon blanc, serving as a palate cleanser, providing clarity to the different tastes.I happily bit into wagyu with black garlic on a fresh zesty bed of avocado...next was the amazingly tender lobster which was offset with tarragon oil and sea fennel flower...I found the liqourice taste a bit startling. My favorite was the kabeljou with bokchoy made more than one way, pickled sweet lemon and a lovely subtle lemony sauce...I dont normally like a firm fish but loved the crispiness the Chef got on the fish. My least favorite was the sweetbread with toasted hazelnut and a touch of sweetness which was surprising as I was looking forward to this the most...the dish was desperately in need of some freshness to cut through the heavy monotone richness...the alternative dish of cauliflower risotto was a tad too salty. I did enjoy the duck with the cannoloni and stuffed onion. The deserts were pedestrian but well presented...a sweet savory dish overpowered by the sharpness of the cheese...but I welcomed the chocalate ice cream, the freshness of the mint and the tartness of the raspberry that cut through the decadence of the cream.Overall, a job well done by the industrious and serious chefs who did not crack a smile, so intent on the job of bringing delicious food to the table...

The ultimate way to spoil yourself and your loved one! The food, all 9 courses, we devine! I was worried after course 3 that we would have to find food afterwards, but be warned that by course 9 you would have had plenty to eat. The wines were brilliantly paired with each course. Also, kudos to the chef for dealing so brilliantly with the allergies of my partner. The alternative dishes that they served him were as superb as mine. The staff were amazing! Check you GPS before the time. Finding the precise spot to drive to when you are unfamiliar with where you are going can be a bit of a challenge.
