This has to be one of South Africa’s greatest culinary experiences ever! Cobus, Mari and Chef Chantel’s warm, hospitable and personal touches were beyond words. From the door to the gallery to the table we felt so well cared for. The staff were amazing. To say the food was exquisite is an understatement. Every dish was an edible piece of art...every dish a story. Thank you for giving us the chance to experience your talent and generous hospitality. We wish you so much success in your new ventures!

I dont even have the words to describe how amazing the experience at Restaurant Mosaic is. The service is absolutely impeccable, the food is wild and strange and delicious and well thought out. Each dish is like a work of art. The wine pairings are absolutely perfect, Moses the sommelier is a genius.

Oh wow for this 10 course tasting menu. Both the venue and the menu are nothing short of exquisite. My favourite starters were the langoustines in a lobster bisque and the mushrooms and the dish I would return for is the sweetbreads served with the wagyu beef main. I could just eat the sweetbreads and be happy. This restaurant is rated number 9 of the top 10 in South Africa. The venue has two beautiful museums and the grounds are something to behold in terms of the design and flora.

What a stunning and immaculate place! You got to stay over at The Orient hotel and then enjoy the fine dining experience at restaurant mosaic. The staff is very friendly. The head chef Chantel came and greeted us at our table. The food was divine. Full of flavour and presented in world class standards. Enjoyed everything that was served. The only let down to me was the long wait between dishes. Having to wait 20 min between each course made me feel stuffed and that was after only having the 3rd course. Then there was still 5 courses to get through. But the food was really amazing, just wish the time between courses could be minimised so as not to give your stomach the time to settle and feel well fed. The hotel in it self has amazing decor making you feel like you in Morocco or somewhere exotic. It has 2 stunning art galleries well worth a visit.

The experience at Restaurant Mosaic is amazing! We had the Grand Degustation which is the 8-course menu. We did wine pairing and non-alcoholic pairing. Both options suited the menu perfectly. The food is incredible good as it is so different and it is plated beautifully. Each dish is designed to its beauty. The waiters and the sommeliers know their stuff so made the experience even much better. The only pity is we arrived later so I didnt take pictures of the place.

Let me start by saying I may be harsh in my review as this is clearly not my preferred type of food.Went here with high expectations and while food was beautiful both our guests sent the majority of food back half eaten.(we knew some would be challenging as we are picky eaters)Desert was divine ,however I had the catch of the day with fennel as a main which was one of few I was really expecting a Wow from. I am sad to say I learned you can make fish taste like grass. The fish lost all taste and was so overpowered by the fennel foam that it would make it into top 5 worse dishes ever eaten. The experience is great and can see that people can enjoy it, staff is attentive and welcoming, as a South African I think you should be prepared for what you get as it is not our normThanks for unforgettable evening and apologies for sending majority back unfinished(honestly believe this is our fault) ,the Linefish is something I normally love though and please take that criticism to heart. Thanks for a special evening which we enjoyed none the less.

THE GOOD:Excellent serviceAmazing foodPersonal touchTHE NOT SO GOOD:Not muchWe went to eat here on our way back to the UK and drove between flights just to eat at here. I can not be even more impressed at the service and the food. One of the best places we have eaten in our lives. The fact that the owner/chef comes out and talks to you is such a lovely touch that is lost at other restaurants. We had not realised that the lunch was going to take longer than we had planned and they were very accommodating in serving their lunch a bit quicker than they normally would. If we have one regret it is not being able to stay longer and enjoy the tasting menu with the wine pairings. Something we will do in the future as we will come back here. The food presentation was amazing and the flavours were outstanding. I am a big eater and we had the smaller tasting menu and I was completely full, perhaps if we had longer we could have managed the bigger tasting menu which looked amazing. If you are anywhere near the area or in the country this is one restaurant you have to try.

Mosaic is my absolute favorite! As you drive onto the property, more like an enchanting castle, you know you are going to grace the presence of chef royalty, someone who fully appreciates that she must capture all your senses for a drop dead gorgeous experience. Against the bakground of a slowly setting sun, you drive towards the restaurant greeted by a flock of animals. Getting out of your car you are immediately drawn to the Tienie Pritchard museum, reknown sculptor, depicting mythical and historical figures ...fascinating. You enter the splendour of the house...opulent and rich...the welcoming waitron mentions each one of your party by name...and this personalised service does not stop, including an impormptu birthday cake and personalised thank you gift...wow! We are served delicious canapes, especially the pungent snoek with hints of soy and ginger...in homage to the best ranked cellar in the WORLD I settle for a Hungary wine, knowing that every wine has been chosen to enhance the reputation of its cellar...and immefiately asked for a tour of the cellar. Wine glass in hand, the gracious waitron leads us down to the cellar and enthralls us with wine stories, including of a bottle of wine costing R7 million rand!Your senses are beyond heightened as you are led into the belle epoque (French and Western), styled restaurant, and the words that shout out at you are artistic opulence. In this starstruck state we finally get to meet the amazing, talented and warm Chantell Dartnall, who describes the dishes we going to have in such poetic terms that I am already in love with the descriptions before even eating the food...and her really friendly mom agrees to take a photo of us with her famous daughter! We just could not get enough of the amazing mosbolletjies with parmesan dunking sauce and we were in serious trouble of not been able to control our appetites as the bread trolley rolled by, paired with all kinds of butter but none more delicious then the truffle butter with caramelised onion. We started with what she called her autumn dream time dish.. individually marinated veggies and carrot mousse, moving onto the apt described Mont blanc dish wirh grated foie gras; the lobster mousse, savoury cabbage and caviar...the oohs and aahs coming from our table was embarrasingly loud, but we could not help ourselves...we died and got up in food heaven! Each dish was art on a plate and each dish was packed with flavour, including the palate cleanser of cherry blossom tea with hisbicus and passion fruit served in the most delightful cups.Choosing our knifes based on its wood, to slice into the succulent waterbuck with a rich morel mushroom and truffle sauce and the most crispy and tasty seabass...allround yum! Ending the meal with amazing 36 month old cheeses, inclduing a 1000 days Amsterdam variety. Everyone of our dishes paired by the most amazing wines from around the globe. The experience is such that you are left with little doubt that you have just been in the food company of an international reknown chef, accolades ranging from top female chef in the world; best in her country, best wine cellar in the world; top 200 best restaurants in the world, including the highest ranking in South Africa!!! It is going to be tough visiting another restuarant soon, as this experience is going to linger for a long time to come!
