Lovely little, award winning place with an excellent choice of meals. I loved the options.. a Veal Cordon Bleu and Duck to mention a few! Not a child friendly place though, but lovely for a nice romantic evening or older family dinner.

Hillside Tavern is my favourite place to go these days. I constantly crave their oysters and make reservations specifically asking if they have stock. Nothing on the menu is a disappointment. The meat on the ribs is so soft and tender. I love the warm atmosphere. Only downside is that inside its quite small and a lot of customers can make it loud but that is not their fault. 10/10.

What a wonderful place.The atmosphere was magnificent, the staff was great and the food was to die for.We went here for date night and not only did my boyfriend have the best steak hes ever tasted but my dish of cranberry duck confit was sublime.The service here was excellent and definitely above and beyond what you expect of decent customer service nowadays.10/10 would recommend. We cannot wait for our next visit.

When we first visited about 3 month ago, the restaurant was awesome. Service was great, food delicious and generous portions. We have been back 4 times since and I am sorry to say that we are of the opinion that our new FAVOURITE restaurant has gone backwards fast. The last time the service was extremely slow regardless of the fact that there were not may diners on the night. We had to ask for most things twice. Part of an order was not delivered to the table and we had to search for the waiter to inform of the mistake. Portion sizes also much smaller than during our first visit. It felt like the attention to detail was missing. I have to mention that the owner was present on the first night we went there but was nowhere to be seen during our subsequent visits. Maybe that is the reason but we are very disappointed and would be hard pressed to go back and give it a last try.

Great South African restaurant. Slightly outside the main town but the food was delicious. My ostrich steak was super good, and the pavlova for dessert was amazing.

Stunning little restaurant, hidden away from the hustle and bustle. Strongly recommend something from the steaks selection, with their gorgonzola sauce. Prices are extremely competitive and they allow corkage. Wheelchair friendly with an outside smoking section.

I love stumbling across places that are unexpected and produce fantastic food. And Hillside Tavern does just that.Friendly staff. Beautiful and quaint atmosphere. And a chef who really knows his food. The fish was light and fell off the bone. The sauce was exquisitely balanced. The steak was possibly the best weve had in a decade...soft, tender, flavourful. You can see that they have purposely selected their product and cooked it too perfection.They set a high standard and they do it effortlessly. Stumble across this gem...you would think regret it!

Great Trinchado - as always!! Great service. It was good to have been able to sit in the outside area to enjoy our meal. My hubby had the pensioner lunch special, and I had the traditional Hillside Tavern tavern. Great meals and reasonable value for money.

Huge and calm room, usually spend time in afternoon. of course weekend evening is good to be here with friends and families.

Lovely place to have a romantic dinner with your partner. Family dining also recommend the food is exceptional. The golden T bone award says it all on the wall.

I went to Hillside Tavern last night . The place was full which tells that the food is good and well priced. Bar area is well appointed and cosy even if the wine was a bit pricey.There is adequate parking with security guards and overflow parking has been provided across the road.It is wheelchair friendly

We had a very efficient and friendly waiter. The meal was delicious and a good variety of sides to choose from. Well prepared and presented. A pleasant experience and highly recommendable.

I love this place. We have been going to Hillside Tavern as a family for close to 20 years now. Weve been visiting for only special occasions like a 21st birthday or 50th birthday or graduation celebrations. The food is top quality and the selection of wines is top notch. Its changed over the years as times have changed but its top class. We belive abroad now but still go for a visit when we are in Pretoria. Thanks Hillside its always a pleasure.

Traditional food. The eisbein is good. The French onion soup was nice, but did not taste the way we are used to. The oysters were tasty. Good service.

The calamarie steak is absolutely incredible. Sometimes it feels a bit claustophobic on the inside, but sitting closer to the entrance gives you a breeze. The waiters are very friendly and make you feel at home.

If there was 1000 stars, they deserve each and every single one. You can pick anything off the menu , and it would be great. Wine selection limited (only 2 Pinotages) but carefully selected top South African wines. I am so glad you survived Covid

For more than 30 years this hidden gem in Lynnwood plates wholesome meals. Gastronomical delights of note! The dishes are traditional and consistently satisfying. Real value for money. Be sure to book in advance because the combination of quality dishes and service makes this much loved restaurant a sell out week after week.

Brilliant. Relaxed atmosphere, excellent service and very tasty food.

Disappointing. Steak was ordered medium rare, received it blue rare. Crème brulee wasnt properly baked. Coffee was bad. All in all, just truly disappointing.

The ambiance was great...the service and friendly staff wonderful. The food was tasty but overpriced for what was offered. It was the type of food I cook at home daily...not fine dining. All in all we enjoyed the evening....had a great table and waitress. Just the food was a let down and the price way too high fir what we were presented with.

One of my old time favourites in Pretoria. But only go there for special occasions, and can remember nearly every visit in some detail. Today we had the Pork Belly and Lamb Shank, but it is actually a speciallity Steak House!

Which I can turn back the hands of time

I have been visiting Hillside since 1990 as a student. With this last I once again was struck by the appreciation I have for this lovely tavern. Very little has changed but that (in this case) is a good thing. Wonderful food, snappy service and a cozy atmosphere. Recommended for anything from a pub lunch with the boss or dinner with friends. Go! You wont be disappointed.

The service of Alexis was excellent! BUT the meals were exorbitantly expensive for far too little food. No one received salad and only one guest, any vegetables. I shall most definitely never visit you again.

Oldy but a goodie! Lovely restaurant and classic bar.We had such a great evening. The food was yummy a d the drinks were cold.We were a big group and almost everything went down without a hitch. Forgot a salad, but that was not a lot. Fairly standard choice of drinks, excellent selection of meat dishes.We will definitely be going back!
