The setting, the food and the staff made for a memorable day that will not be easily forgotten. Dont forget to add an extra hour or two to your schedule to be able to fully soak up the beauty of the curated gardens. Youll want to take your time and make sure youre able to take many photos!

Definitely one of our favourite restaurants to visit for an unique, fresh, and delicious breakfast. Friendly service, clean restaurant and all foods and drinks made from farm fresh produce. Compliments to the chef for creating a delicious vegan breakfast for one of us. This restaurant is quite popular and bookings are essential.

Pretty average food. Was hoping for much much more. Most of the food was slightly over cooked, slightly dry. The vegetarian options were far better than any meat dish but still not exceptional. It was clear that everything was absolutely fresh and nutritious however - literally from farm to table. The wine was excellent, presentations were impressive, ambience very comfortable and relaxed, seating spacious and comfortable, service average.Due to corona, wine was self service at the table and masks to be work anywhere except that your table. The waiter missed a couple items on the bill which we added on later. The restaurant made effort to present a free dessert as it was a family members birthday.Overall I wouldn’t be back in a hurry. Nice but not for the reviews, location and the price.

Breakfast at Babel is quite the treat. Covid protocols in place and breakfast was served outside on a beautiful morning. Hot and cold breakfast is served and breakfast includes your beverages. The cost of the breakfast is expensive but hey this is a treat. Of course a walk around the beautiful garden is a must. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen.

Good restaurant in an amazing setting. The starter portion sizes are big (as evidenced in the pics). The salmon starter is delicious, they use a special olive oil dressing (I think!). I ordered the steak for mains, wasnt the best Ive had.

An
Review №23

The taste profiles for the starter dishes make absolutely no sense. It looks amazing, but it doesnt quite live up to the standard set by gourmet restaurants in the area, with the same price range for their dishes. The mains are okay, but the risotto was undercooked (grainy does not mean al dente) and also lacked depth. Perhaps the risotto is not prepared in a traditional manner, but then again what did the chef aim to accomplish? Im not sure.Prices at Babylonstoren are a little ridiculous. Even more so than other big commercial wine farms who only really cater for naive tourists.I would rather you rethink that date/lunch/whatever. Overall, not my favourite experience.

We went here for breakfast one morning and was very impressed by the attention to detail and quality of the food. After you eat, make sure to stroll through the beautiful gardens which are located right outside the restaurant. My only qualm is that they charged a small entrance fee when our Uber pulled up to the main gate (even though we had reservations) - very poor taste.

Beautifully presented reasonable food. Beautiful surroundings, service a little heavy handed, as if it was a bucket and slop. It was cold, try and find a cushion for your chair or the steel seats will freeze your butt. It was expensive and we tipped 10%, if our waitress received this amount then we paid her a week’s salary for 2 hours work. Confusing. 3.5 stars likely more reasonable based on value and food quality.

Overrated and pricy. A resto in a winery and the wine list is extremely short and super expensive. The venue is beautiful but be advised that if you go at night you will have to park 400m from the resto and find your way in a dark area with just a couple of indications. Food is ok, nothing spectacular. Had a very average soup, a really good risotto and a good baby chicken. Staff is very friendly.

That is becoming the buzz phrase. Our lunch at this unique venue was super special as it was my birthday and I was celebrating it with people who truly love me.The menu is well put together focusing on fresh local produce and unashamedly showing off the massive repitoir of product grown on the farm. The service, tableware and venue adds to the luxury charm that this place wants its dinners to experience.By no means is this a budget venue and certainly you get fill value for the price you pay.Great experience!!!

Our party of 3 had lunch at Babel. The atmosphere in there feels like you are at a wake. The staff were nice and attentive, although not entirely present at the table, it felt like they needed to dash off. The food was beautifully presented but the taste was quite disappointing, pretty bland and overpriced for what it is. The flavour combinations just didnt work with each other. Points for the freshness of the food though which obviously comes straight from their gardens. One of our party had the steak which really wasnt good at all, not even mediocre. He asked for it to be cooked medium but got given something that was quite raw & stringy. The babylonstoren gardens are beautiful but they should give you the heads up that there is a R20 entrance fee for everyone upon arrival & that it can take you up to 20mins to park, walk, wait in the queue to pay for entrance fee and then walk a further 5mins to the restaurant. Because of this, we were 25mins late to lunch, meaning I had to leave minutes as my main course arrived (which was disappointing anyhow) so I left most of it. I left hungry. On the positive, we shared the green & yellow plate starters which was better but again quite bland. Apparently the vegetarian risotto was good but wasnt my dish! Ho hum! They really could do better with flavouring their food. Wont be back anytime soon.

We went to Babylonstoren and had lunch at Babel. The meal at Babel was so disappointing. We had the gnocchi and the raw beetroot. It was flavorless and so disappointing. We then ordered the steak. The actual piece if meat was good, but the other stuff on the plate did not make sense at all. It had sugarsnaps with dill, and this horrible mustard slodge paste, and apple sticks with the steak. It is as if they took the sides that was suppose to go with the pork dish and just added it to the steak. The flavours did not make sense. On the menu it says garden vegetables comes with every main, but when we asked for it they said no its a printing error and we have to pay extra. To pay R350 for a steak, R65 extra for potatoes and extra for the veg is such a rip off I feel. AND the dish was a disaster. The fish was OK, but nothing to write home about. It was feels that from the moment you enter the gate they want to over charge for everything and to be honest its not really worth it.

Yesterday was one of those days for me and I walked barefoot on dirt road for a short while. (I loved it❤️)And yes, we are living in a pandemic, but yesterday I learned great lessons while attending the Babylonstoren Waterwise plants workshop. These waterwise plants have the ability to survive, rise every time they are broken, with little care they still manage to grow into something amazing that can withstand any condition nature gives them. Thank you at Ernst and Nico for sharing your passion and wealth of knowledge while making our experience fun.So, after learning yes about Waterwise plants, I think I learned more life lessons yesterday by just learning from these plants and their way of life. I love the concept and freshness of everything they do, and Babylonstoren as a whole is a wonderful 5 star place worth a visit. The service was great and the restaurant is beautiful, but between the 4 dishes we had the food was more 4 star than 5 star, and that for me is the biggest factor in a restaurant.

I can imagine not too many bad reviews are written about Babel, as it is truly a unique experience. When we first got there, they didnt actually have our lunch reservation listed. Luckily, they corrected it and immediately seated us. Its pretty hard to get into their restaurant, so we were glad they accommodated us. The menu is so incredibly unique, the salads are split between colors, we chose the green and red. Essentially anything green that grows in their garden they throw into the green salad. Everything is fresh and edible, even the flowers. It was so lovely. The meals are also split into fish, meat, etc. Theres a wall that shows what is in season, what is growing, and what will be on your plates. It was so incredible to walk around and see the items they were growing in their gardens, and then see them on your plate. Truly, an amazing experience.
