Most expensive two chicken breast boneless ever. R306 with delivery from Mr D. When phoning to query get told by a very arrogant person that that is how it is. Rice is separate extra. Tells me that he charges for more than a chicken breast cut up. Ripping the public off. Well done. Never going to order from this place again. Ate the 1 chicken breast, well not nearly any taste.
Food was delicious. The service was so awesome. Love it. Will definately be going back.
Decent Indian food..... always my go to place to get a feel of home....
Really great food and lovely service - owners will regularly check in and are just really nice...
Ordered a Chicken biryani on Uber Eats and was shocked to receive overboiled chicken, overcooked savoury rice (they just added turmeric and was tasteless) and not skinless as promised. This was a really poor product and shouldnt be sold to customers.
Tried them out for the first time and i enjoyed it very much
Not for people who cook good tasty food at home. You will be disappointed. And stop listening to the drinkers, they dont have any tastebuds. 2nd and last visit to this place.
I am very disappointed with my experience here today. When we arrived the shop was empty, no one told us that they had booked the place out. Half way through our meal the place was packed with the guests, I could hear the people talking amongst themselves that I was sitting at a booked table, the waitress came while we were eating and began cleaning our table. So we just got up and left, these owners who were present said and did nothing to make our stay more better throughout this. If they told us we would have just went to Heavens Kitchen, the food is better there anyways, we only use to come here to support the Indian owners. Sorry guys you lost us as customers.
When you need a taste of home
Crazy expensive and the manager is a real &$$ over the phone. Chicken curry with 1 breast comes to a price of R2000 per kg if you convert it.Not worth even looking at their menu.
Great authentic Durban style curry.
Im formally from Durban and ever since Ive relocated to jhb ,been +-4years now and Ive tried many places to get that Durban style flavour and Ive always been disappointed BUT when I tasted purple lounges food I was blown away it was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing I knew this is what Ive been looking for and this is going to be my favorite spot going forward.Big thumps up guys.
Absolutely delicious curries, enjoy this with a choice of rice, roti or bread.Delicious samoosas for starters, you have to try their samoosas. And finish of a tantalising meal with some mouth watering soji. There is a bar here also for a cold beer or whisky, brandy. And you can order tea also.Safe area and plenty of parking available. They also do deliveries and cater for functions, private or corporate.
String and Marlini food and service is phenomenal. Feels like home
Consistently good food and friendly service.
Best bunny chow in gauteng.
Great food, great service.
My husband has been to the Purple Lounge on several occasions and loves the food. I went there for the first time today, to collect a take away order. I met with the owner Mr Strini Moodley, a very friendly gentleman. The restaurant was amazing, a lovely setup. The lamb samoosas are absolutely divine. We bought a mutton bunny and a chicken roti wrap, and also bought unfried samoosas. Mr Moodley added some veggie pickles and said that I should try it, and did not bill us for it. The food was divine. Cooked to perfection. I gladly recommend this restaurant and want to mention that the meat and chicken is halaal. I personally rate this restaurant a 10 out of 10. Thank you Mr Moodley for such delicious food and excellent personalised service.
Best family restaurant in Midrand. Very lovely people there. Great food as well
Worst bunny ever...tasted like stew meat and the color of the food was nothing like a durban curry. The Briyani that I got here had few piece dry meat and rice...How do yourl sell food like this to ppl and you guys also do catering?...Never again..Get proper ppl to make quality curries for the prices that we are being charged!!!!!
Go meet Marlini and Strini for a top mutton bunny chow! ~ Durban style
Food very nice and not too pricey
Ordered mutton briyani, savory rice with half boiled potato and dry meat. Never again
Excellent curry
Excellent quality food, enjoyed the lamb samoosas and bunny chow....
Paid for two Rotis with my mutton curry takeaway and only got one. Also the mutton curry was unusually runny.
Friendly Hospitality, Delicious Curries
Excellent host, pretty nice food. Not a fan of the fried potatoes used for every thing. Potatoes should be cooked with the dish they are served with.
Food is excellent. 5 stars for that. But service was poor - called to order and told 15 minutes ... took 38 (I don’t think they started the samosas until we’d arrived and paid). On the pricey side - R315 for 6 samosas, a half bunny and roti roll.
Visited today for the first time. Enjoyed the food - never expected such a place existed in that part of Midrand. Was a quick visit - hope to spend a bit more time in future to sample the other food. Lamb bunny was good.
Crab curry was on point, best Ive had in a very long time, even had 2 portions! And they Halaal, amazing, will definitely be back, ready to try their bunny chow! Thanks alot!
Absolutely amazing service.. Food was divine. Definitely going back there. Just love it
Best food and best service.Authentic south indian food.
Overrated. Overhyped. Durban curry does not taste anything like this. I was disappointed. Who in Durban serves a bunny with deboned cubes of meat? Less said the better.
The best lamb curry bunny chow that I have had in Jhb. The service was awesome. I will be taking my colleagues along. My new destination for curries.Whoop Whoop!
Phamlet indicates that the quarter mutton bunny comes with gravy and salad. However, when its time to pay, a charge of R10 is levied for the extra gravy, which according to the pamphlet, cones with the bunny. Misrepresented advertising at its very best
Without a doubt, the best Indian food in Midrand. Pricier than other establishments but worth it in my opinion. Limited menu though, and specials are not always available.
Ordered via ubereats, was not impressed. Lamb breyani was pretty average, the bunny chows had more bones than quality pieces. Not worth the price!
Have been a frequent customer of purple lounge.. Disappointed off recently with the extra charging of gravy or pickles.. The bunny chow itself is not stuffed as much as it used to as well. I understand prices are increasing everywhere however the quality is slowly decreasing. Hopefully this turns around soon.
Enjoyable Durban Indian food. The owners are a wonderful couple originally from Durban. Decor is a little tacky though
Mutton curry and roti is my fav.... eat that every time I go there. Very welcoming hosts as well that always check up on you and if you enjoying the food
Food is amazing, exactly as Ama made! Made to feel at home by Malini who constantly checked on us.
Good vir for money. Service could be better. More lunch crowd setup.
Like amma makes food.Bunnies and curries are amazing.
The mutton Breyani was terrible tasteless rice full of coloring and meat was terrible and a funny taste will never eat there agsin
Used them for one of our work functions great food. The people are cool too
Does not live up to the slogan, food like Amma used to make. Very disappointing paid R120 for a boneless lamb bunnie which had bones in it. R95 for trotters which seemed to just be boiled and added to a poorly made sugar beans curry which lacked in flavour. First and last time for me.
The food is devine
Took mums & sis. They loved it their 1st time. Good ol Durban indian chows like Ma made in the kitchen. Mutton curry , chicken their dessert Soji etc all great taste straight outta durbs exactly what you want. Open on a Sunday too so perfect for a family lunch.Decor not great just canteen seating. Dont expect a fancy restuarant but you know you will get great food. Husband & wife from Durban own it. Location in a commercial office centre. Very good prices. Joburgs slight mild alternative to the amazing Brittania in durbs for the char ous. Worth it.
Had heard amazing reviews and was keen to try it out. Was bitterly disappointed. We ordered the boneless chicken curry, and the Lamb Bone in Biryani, as well as 3 Lamb Samoosas and 3 Cheese and Sweetcorn Samoosas.R110 for the chicken curry which was a flavourless sea of oil concealing 4 small pieces of thigh meat and 2 halves of a potato. Was disgusting. The Biryani not much better, bone dry, with 2 large burnt dry things that Im sure once were Potato. When asked by owner if we enjoyed, I told her not really and why, and not a word from her. Paid R315 for a really poor quality meal. Worst Indian food Ive had in a long long time. Disappointed. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but Im not big on 2nd chances.
Good food . Pricey considering other options around.
Great food, great service. Feels like home away from home
Plain decor hides the fact that they have fantastic, authentic food, personally served by the friendly owner. A hidden gem.
Best bunny in GP. Ill drive all the way from Pretoria to have one.
This place came highly recommended however I found the food to be average. I am quite a good cook and found myself regretting not having cooked for myself. I purchased the lamb curry and the chicken curry with roti. The roti was a bit hard as well so not the greatest experience. the salad was good however.
Food is great! Traditional Durban Bunny Chow. 5 stars for the food.
For the very best authentic home grown South African Indian cooking look no further. Cooking standards are high. Based in Midrand and has become my de facto curry place. This is a small family based business with the owner and wife providing really good service. Also available on Ubereats.
Juat as the board says. Great taste food. Sunday lunch was amazing. Great enthusiasm from front staff. Definately returning soon. Makes the drive to midrand well worth it.
One of the best indian restaurants in Gauteng. Really reminds you of Durban home made food. For the quality and authenticity of the food, the price is well worth it.
So So So , curry was excellent but service was terrible , just drive to curry and all in Sandton
Very quiet place, but very good food.
Radio talk show rated it as having great curry. It simply isnt true
Very delicious lamb curry in bread (world famous BUNNY CHOW) .Cannot immagine how such a delicious lamb curry can be made in South Africa.
Nice place which serves good food - just the way amma makes it. Aunthentic Durban curries, bunnies, roti rolls, breyani, etc. Personal service by friendly people with a smile. Situated in an industrial park, safe parking.
The best bunny chow in Jhb. Perfect spot for lunch, good fast service & the food is always fresh & hot.
Had the lamb bunny. Hardly any meat or gravy. Over priced mediocre food
Best mutton bunny in town. Tastes like home
Good local Indian food. Good for a quick bite!
Always tasty specials available. Like they advertise like Amma used to make
Great Indian food. Lamb biryani and Fritters, beans super
The only place whose curry does not give my husband heartburn. Very taste food. Havent had a bad experience.
Very unpretentious decor with good curry food
Great friendly service with great bunny chows.
Excellent Indian food. Located off the beaten track so not many people have discovered this gem.
Terrible experience as they were not open during trading hours
Lovely place Indian restaurant love the lamb roti
Its beautiful but situated in a small area
Undoubtedly the best Bunny Chow i have had in recent times
