Its such a fun outing, I would recommend it to anyone. Just make sure you like seafood otherwise you will be wasting your time. Best way to spend a warm, lazy Saturday afternoon.
Visited in November 2020. The staff were friendly and everyone was Covid conscious. Each table got their own set of utentils and hand sanitiser as opposed to the communal utentils. The loos were kept clean and smelling great and were well lit considering youre right on the beach. The food was out of this world. Prepared by a group of cooks who know whats up! Simple flavours but made with love and experience. Thank you to everyone for making us feel so special. Cant wait to return!
Honestly, I have not had their food yet so K cannot give 5 starts... yet! But we stopped there one Sunday and had a couple of drinks at the bar and on the beach. You would never have known that there had been a fire there during lockdown. We are definitely going to book a table there for their Sunday lunch as soon. As it’s a little warmer
Interesting experience. Nice, fresh food, prepared in front of you. The only issue is the quantity - 10 courses over 4 hours. A bit much. Just manage your portions from the beginning and youll be alright.A few notes: cant pay with the card and theres no corkage.
Fantastic Western Cape experience. Be prepared to eat your fill. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing. You can go for walks on the beach and rocks in-between meals. A true South African gem
Amazing experience! Toes in the sand and delicious food!
Firstly, more attentive and caring hosts you will not find anywhere, they are truly awesome. The entertainment is also fun with the musician circulating amongst the tables. The venue is rustic and beautifully situated on the beach. It truly is one big happy feast to partake in. However there are a few things to note, it is more of a beach barbecue than a restaurant and the food reflects this. It is fresh and more than anyone could possibly eat in one sitting but it is plainly prepared with some courses prepared better than others. The biggest negative however is the smoke from the fires. If you are unfortunate enough to be seated downwind from the fires you are in for a very unpleasant and smokey experience. The hosts will try and seat you elsewhere but on the day we were there it was full, the smoke was simply unbearable and spoilt what would have been a truly enjoyable and jovial occasion. I would seriously suggest that additional firepits be constructed to account for the wind direction or even making the fires elsewhere and carry the coals to the cooking pits to minimize the smoke.
Id heard about this place as a West Coast institution, always with glowing reviews about the food and atmosphere. Naturally I was excited to finally go there, but the whole experience was disappointing. The food represents the philosophy Quantity instead of quality - its not good. Sure you get a large of variety, but it all tastes like your grumpy grandpa made it while muttering... back in my day we didnt bother with stuff like flavour, side dishes, sauces or spices like those fancy city people - we just took a fish from the ocean and threw it on the coals! Unfortunately I am a city person who likes nice things, so I wasnt charmed by the rustic nostalgia for beef potjiekos, boiled potato chunks, and plain grilled fish. The guitar player started off fun, but after 3 hours of his repetitive noisy set and sitting on a hard bench I was very ready to leave and never return.
Food and hygiene is sadly substandard. Setting is magnificent but the food, quality of ingredients (e.g. frozen pea and carrots are used), flavour and the hygiene is questionable.I understand it is a remote location but the toilets are also not very pleasant nor clean.I also understand the duress placed on restaurants due to the current situation but still rather do a simpler smaller menu of highest quality and hygiene than an elaborate menu that is sub-standard.I visited some decades before and the quality was exceptional so currently it is riding on its former good name.Needs an upgrade of recipes and standards along with assistance of a skilled chef and kitchen manager.
Great everything; the vibe, the people and staff, the food, cleanliness, the whole experience - just excellent. Definitely a place Id go back to, and Ill bring people with me.
Definitely a dining experience to share with a few good friends. 3 to 4 hours of West coast cuisine at its simplest but most tasty. You are warned not to overdo the fresh bread and preserves to save place for all 10 courses but its irresistible. Go shell hunting or walk on the beach in between courses. Take your own drinks - no corkage - makes the experience a bit more affordable. Expensive at about R325pp but the experience is what counts.
A dining extravaganza. Go hungry. 10 courses is a lot to get through but the relaxed atmosphere and mid meal walk around helps. You must love fish ... Everything is super fresh and tasty
Enjoy a 10 course meal while enjoying a great view. Not for people who only enjoy comfortable seating or fine dining. Down to earth amazing crowd with great seafood. You can bring your own drinks and there is no corckage fee. You can also make use of the bar if you wish. Everything is cash though.PS: booking is essential. I have seen so many late comers and then some of the meals have already been served. You will miss out.On a windy day, the sand will be a nuisance, but its all part of the experience.
Relaxed environment that serves with outdoor seafood braai right on the beachfront and the best of scenery of rocks and the sea with lots of seagulls around the beach area.
Best customer service, amazing view. On the beach & amazing smell of the food
A fabulous scrumptious meal and a wonderful beach dining experience ,, not to be missed
An experience that you have to try at least once, but you will probably keep coming back! Fresh local seafood is cooked on site by friendly staff, while you wander on the beach or relax at rustic shaded tables. Its advisable to check which days they are open and make a booking in advance.
Fun filled atmosphere, scenic with a well placed venue, food prepared well. Staff well organized. Hospitality of a good standard.
An incredible experience, and something you HAVE TO DO if youre visiting Langebaan.Dinner at Die Strandloper is a multi-course buffet of delectable seafood, freshly baked break and other delicious treats. The only utensils around are mussel shells and diners sit at shared tables, with their feet in the sand.If you enjoy seafood and youre visiting Langebaan, treat yourself to this one of a kind experience.
Great scenery.... most unbeatable food ever experienced...Total rip-off
In your life time. This is a place you need to visit. Dont ask questions just go. Its worth every cent. No no dont ask just book and go. Listen now. Go. Im not arguing pack your stuff and get going. And you get to bring your own wine. So there really is no excuse.
Peaceful... on the brink off the beach... Stunning views with nature all around you
The place is situated on the beach Very different atmosphere. I enjoyed the set up. As for the food they serve a buffet dinner and I think they should offer menu cards to guests informing them what is on the menu Guest sit there waiting in anticipation of what will be served next. If menu cards are offered then guest will know what to expect on the menu.
Awesome experience. Good food, friendly people.
We went there for the 12h30 lunch I think it was. Lunch started late and when it did start a truck came and started pumping the portable toilets out. So the smell of sewerage was lingering for 20 minutes which the staff didnt seem to have an issue with. Seeing that they know when their lunch and dinner is, this is unacceptable. They should arrange that their toilets get pumped out in the morning when no patrons are there and no food is being served. The whole seaside camp atmosphere is really showing its age and the tables are under these roofs around 1.6-1.7m high. I am tall and constantly had bend over to go to the common area for this 10 course meal. Most of the meals are fish or something basic. The last time I was here 9 years ago and again about 6 years ago for the dinner the food was much more lavish and the general atmosphere was better. At R310 per person I would say it is poor value with such a long drive it really is not worthwhile to go here for an outing unless you are in the area. This is my third time but this will be my last, perhaps tourists will like the whole West coast fishing village vibe but I dont think I would look forward at spending that money to be disappointed again. Sorry but I am being honest.
Great food.. Weekends.. Very popular
Be prepared to pay for an experience and rather quantity than quality. The bread, roosterkoek and curry fish were nice. Mussels were not cleaned properly and kreef was dry. Koesisters were doughy and coffee just too strong. Courses are served too soon after each other causing you to feel overwhelmed. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Its was the awesome amazing experience I ever had in the way of supper...loved it will do it again.
What a beautiful place to come around, spend some quality time. Food is the ‘catch’ of the day, bread is made on the moment. The beach is so close, one can stretch in between dishes!
Wow what an experience! Highly recommended.
This place is 1 of the best places weve visited. The atmosphere the people is awesome. Food is prepared in front of you on the 🔥. Overall 9/10
An experience I will always remember! Something everyone must do if you love seafood. I loved every minute. Food was yummy.
Fantastic atmosphere we have been go if to this venue for 20+years. The food ten courses spread over an entire afternoon mostly seafood,is self service very rustic . Brilliant place to take overseas guests, best to book.
Expect a rustic beach location with many courses of seafood. Go hungry as there is a lot of food! It was very tasty and there was a lovely atmosphere. The staff where friendly and welcoming. You do need to book ahead of time.
Beautiful views and great if you enjoy seafood. There are only portable toilets
This is the sort of places I like to be, Die Strandloper is one of a kind, because while keeping it simple you are served and treated like first class. The place is just next to beach, nobody else is there, you have to book ahead, so do not forget it. Fresh food, friendly staff, music played at your will on guitar, oh boy.We had a ten time course lunch, starting simple with cooked mussles, then smoked fish, grill fish, Angel fish, snook, and others, we end with king prawns. Did I mentioned we had a variety of beers, wines and soft drinks?A must go.
Great laid back atmosphere. Good quality food and lovely views
Perfect for a weekend lunch. Sit under the canopy with sea sand in between your toes overlooking the sea. Come hungry and take it easy with the bread (I know it’s good!). You can BYO or buy from their bar. Restrooms are port-a-loo style. Warn those you go with so there’s no surprises ;)
Simply breathtaking.
We eally cool vibe with great hosting. Food excellent and in abundance...Great for summer its blerry cold in winter!
It was great... Kids get to play in the sand... We had a great 10 course seafood with some freshly baked bread
I recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood.
The food is amazing and you get a nice country feel with ten courses
They served 10 different meals and although fish is not my thing it was still a very good experience. The food was very well prepared and the staff are all very friendly. Oh.. And both the view and bread were amazing!
The ambiance is amazing and the food is rustic and fresh. Even though I always eat too much it feels like Ive eaten food thats good for you. Cant recommend this place enough. Its a must for every person living or visiting the region.
Amazing food and atmosphere. This is not your typical restuarant. Not a restaurant at all really. You get to sit on the beach , eat with mussel shells, and enjoy seafood at its freshest natural state. An experience of the west coast at its best.
So Im here in Cape Town visiting some family and the suggestion of Die Strandlooper came up. So we pulled through to Langebaan. So first impressions, chilled vibes like youre visiting some friends under their lapa. In the center its buzzing with fires stoking some large potjies filled with mussels. Hand made wood fire ovens baking some fresh bread and the food just keeps coming. 10 courses from mussels to crayfish. Snoek to angel fish with braaid hotentot. All masterfully perfected by years of experience. Blik borde en bekers should give you an idea of the culture. There are a few additional things about the experience as well but i will let you find it for yourself. Pack a cooler bag with some drinks and pull through to Die Strandlooper because for R335.00 pp you will be blown out of the water. Im not posting many photos of this trip for you as no amount of photos and fancy effects could capture the essential part of this place which is the atmosphere and taste. PS. Cash only, dont come there with your plastic whatnot. And my 4 stars are subjective, if you dont like seafood go to McDonalds.
Awesome experience, evening dinner can not be beat with the sunset and night time fires.
The Strandloper offers a true Westcoast experience. The food comes in great quantity but not the best quality. There is a wide variety of traditional Westcoast dishes all prepared in front of you on an open fire. The intervals between the courses are too short and you easily get overwhelmed by it all. A big let down was the mussels, which was not cleaned properly, and the kreef, dry and not fresh was definitely boiled before and just reheated on the fire. The courses also lack something fresh, such as salad or a salsa just to cleanse the palate from all that fish! I appreciate the rustic and authentic vibe that they are going for but that does not mean that it cant be neat, tidy and stylish. Currently it looks in need of urgent maintenance and definitely a more coherent and thought out style of decor, something more than old torn pieces of clothes and broken sun damaged plastic balls. Im all for the rustic feeling but portable toilets are a bit too much, for the price Im paying I expect a structured functioning bathroom with runnig water. The use of paper plates is also a practice to be frowned upon, with each course a new paper plate is given and the dirty one is discarded, this is not very eco-friendly and definitely not a sustainable practice, Im sure there are better alternatives. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The guy with his guitar singing local and well known songs really adds to the social and relaxed atmosphere. Overall an okay experience, but not something Ill come back for or recommended.
Great experience definitely a must do if youre in Langebaan
I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at Die Strandloper. The venue is rustic. It is on the beach and all food is prepared there on the beach. The fish and bread and jam is all excellent!
5 * experience. 10 courses, 3 hours. What a day for Marilyns seventieth.
Amazzzzzing!! Great food,great people,excellence service.love it!
If you love the beach and seafood and looking or a different restaurant experience with lekker food, then you must try Die Strandloper.
Found this place by luck really. We only had a drink here, but the food looked amazing. It is six course lunch or dinner which is braiaaed outside. Right nest to the beach.
Wonderful time and super kid friendly. Tons of all you can eat courses topped off with half a crawfish for about $25 US per adult and $5 US per kid, (no crawfish). I ate at least $25 of mussels in the first course. Bring your own beverages and visit the beach while you are there
This place is a gem and very unique. A must visit in Langebaan
Wow what an incredible experience thank you :-) every second, 10 courses, just amazing.
What a great experience, all seafoods and fresh bread being grilled, cook, baked right in front of a person, loved every moment at Die Strandloper Seafood Restaurant.
Excellent place on the beach. A must try if you are around Langebaan area. Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and friendly service.Good food, combined with live music and a beautiful view makes this place a 5/5 for me. Definitely recommend trying it for yourself.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The place and food are all highly overrated however. There is very little effort in creating a comfortable dining setting, but that is probably part of the experience. For over R360, I would have appreciated a fork (at least) and not a mussel shell picked up off the beach to use as a spoon. Big plus is that you can take your own wine with no corkage fee.
3 1/2 hours of incredible food and entertainment plus an amazing view with our feet in the sand... what more can you ask for!
Nice experience and very friendly owners. The food could be better.
A must do on the West Coast. A uniquely unforgettable event with a unique way of catering for clientele. So many courses of different sea foods with accompanying fresh baked breads and a large variety of fresh jams.Check the weather to see how to dress. Bring cushions and blankets as needed.Although a bar is available you can bring your own drinks.Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon
Food was delicious. Covid friendly eating and dishing arrangements. View is beautiful. The only unpleasant thing was the bathrooms. They have those portable toilets and it wasnt very clean. Bit uncomfortable to use during a pandemic.
Rustic go there on an EMPTY stomach!Facilities lacking, view breath taking along with the staffs sense of humors.. joking
Exceeded my expectation. Amazing ambiance and excellent food.
Was quite disappointed. Heard so many good things. Best dish was the beef stew, at a seafood establishment. Choice of seafood was solid, but was just too dry and lacked taste. Maybe just a bad day at the office, but it will take some convincing for me to return.
This is one off the best places to vissit if you and the family are on holiday,I have never seen so many shells in my life and the kids was safe in the lagoon ( One of three in the World of the kind ). Then to top it all up Donni is there to set the mood with the best songs ever ...Well DONE DONNI 👍😍
Such a beautiful view of the sea whilst sitting in such an accurately nautical-themed environment. Friendly staff and a great tourist attraction!
The beaches are incredible at this place and it really feels as if you walk out of residential Langebaan straight into the West Coast wilderness. Would highly recommend the place if you want to get a truly spectacular view of Saldahna Bay.
Awesome views and blissful view. Literally situated on the beach
A very special and delicious experience.
A must when youre in Langebaan. The setting is relaxed and rustic but perfect for the location - right on the beach. You just want to take it easy, enjoy those around you and happily munch on the many seafood courses served during your booking. The hosts and staff are really lovely too.
Excellent experience. Relaxed vibe. Food typical West Coast and delicious. High Five for being Covid compliant as well.
For sea-food lovers this place is amazing. The ten-course meal is superb: the home-made bread and jams are delicious, the mussels are flavourful, and the cray fish is delightful. The staff are incredibly friendly and the music and views make the experience even more pleasurable.
Very underwhelming experience at Die Strandloper. It really is an overpriced tourist trap. Visited in April 2021. Every course is average at best using very cheap ingredients, lots of potatoes and bread and overcooked fish. The meal is overpriced at R350 per person, considering you are only provided with one small crayfish per person. Would much rather recommend visiting a beach restaurant in the area and ordering a seafood platter.
