The decor and the price is all great. The service is impeccable. The only thing is the food is so gritty. It literally felt like I was eating sand. Im not sure if its the injera or the veggies but the sandy feel when chewing is hopefully something you will look into. Everything else is great!
Had the privilege of being invited to celebrate the Ethopian new year at Queen Shebas. What a wonderful experience. The dinner was buffet style, with lots of meat. When mentioning we had 3 vegans as part of our group, the owner (without any issue) prepared individual platters for us, which was absolutely delicious- so many flavours and textures. And the coffee! Would highly recommend to vegans or anyone wanting to experience Ethiopian cuisine.
We’ve been wanting to try Ethiopian which my husband loves back home. Found this place for a nice family Sunday lunch. They have rice based injera (and teff) which was a new one for me. Parking out front so made us feel a little safer leaving the car outside. Menu isn’t extensive but has the favorites and the meat and veg platter was nice. Tried dry tibs which was nice but I would have liked a bit more spice. On portions: decent. We had tibs for 2 and the meat and veg platter for 2 and our family of four was full but not stuffed. I’d have liked more collards and cabbage and tomato salad and less lentils since the veggies are a family fave;) but for lentil lovers we had 4 types. The doro wat sauce was great. Nothing was greasy which sometimes can be an issue for me with Ethiopian. We also tried a glass of the homemade honey wine. It’s almost like fermented pineapple juice. It isn’t the clear, bottled honey wine one might expect. Fun experience and relaxed atmosphere.
Service with a smile! Very friendly staff and everything was delivered in good time. The menu is small and easy to understand, as opposed to other Ethiopian restaurants Ive been to where the menu is so big, its just overwhelming. They offer ideal combo meat and veg options if you want to taste a bit of everything. The food is authentically served and portions are decent! The food was fantastic. Would highly recommend this great little slice of Ethiopia. Oh and the coffee was delicious! (Obviously)
Authentic food, clean and very reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit.
The hospitality is amazing. The vibe is amazing. The restaurant looks legit Ethiopian. I enjoyed it.
What a delight! Having discovered the stand at Sylvias Market about a month back, and having tried making injera bread (with teff flour we bought at the stand) and combining with a number of Ethiopian dishes, we decided to visit the restaurant yesterday afternoon. What a pleasure. The brother of the woman who runs the Sylvias Market stand owns the restaurant. Some people have left reviews commenting that the decor wasnt great - we loved it, clean, simple and just enough nik-naks on the walls to suggest an inviting and different experience. We both had meat and veg platters (at R100 each), plus the side of the injera bread. Delicious. If you dont do chilli hot and spicy, you may well find this food too much. We also has a glass of honey wine - served in the traditional glasses - a miniature carafe, as it were. Not as sweet as I would have imagined, but the perfect accompaniment to the food. Both of us were unable to finish our platters - we were so full.If you enjoy experimenting with different cuisines - definitely give this place a try.
Very nice to have Ethiopian food and different cultures to see thanks for your everything.
Absolute 💯 amazing experience the service is good and the food even better love love love it! Highly recommend this place ♡
Good food and the service is great. I would highly recommend.
The most delicious meal I’ve had this year! Thank you to Queen of Sheba for the amazing food and service. I wish you continued success in 2021 - will definitely come back.
Best place for vegetarian foods and Ethiopian traditional coffee!!
Authentic Ethiopian food served by friendly staff at competitive pricing 11
It was a wonderful first time experience
Beautiful good and wonderful cultural atmosphere. Excellent warm service and the location and decor were also greatly convenient
Amazing food amazing staff very clean everything was a taste of Ethiopia
Beautiful ambiance. Was treated to a gorgeous traditional belly dancer with swords whilst enjoying some tea to finish off the evening meal. A great experience. Probably shouldnt have worn my Israeli police t-shirt or asked for a beer tho. Lol
Awesome ethiopian traditional experience, good food and great service. A place to spend a sunday afternoon with family.
Very nice. Friendly service and been looking forward to the food for a while and it didnt disappoint. The mixed plate is a great idea to try it all. Definitely recommend.
Great food
Lovely atmosphere and food was spicy but very tasty.
Loved it.. nice and clean ❤
Lovely tranquil environment. Great food and peaceful.
It was an experience with friends, but I dont think its quite for me. The food was good, staff was very friendly, but I dont think fermented bread is for me though haha. You wont know until you try, right?
One of my favourite restaurants in JHB. The food is affordable, delicious and a fun experience - the restaurant has replicas of some Ethiopian artefacts, including a mini-Aksum tower.
So different. Food excellent. Decor a little dated. Well worth a visit and a return visit and another visit after that.
Took my wife on a outing for our anniversary, good place to end the day. Really enjoyed the authentic food. I recommend a visit.
A great experience, with excellent food and a setting that clearly celebrates the Ethiopian roots of its cuisine. I would dock a star because my palate was thrown a bit off balance by what it perceives as a strong element of vinegar/tartness in the staple that doubles as your utensil. But i feel that is due to a lack of ambition in my culinary exposure rather than any fault in the chefs expertise. All in all, a good night out!
Cosy, intimate place. It showcases its culture. Ethiopian traditional food served not quite for my taste buds, I literally ate 5 bites and I couldnt finish.I would recommend to anyone looking to try new places n food, staff n owner quite pleasant and very helpful. It feels like a home away from home.
Delicious food. Big servings and friendly staff. It was a pleasant experience. Would go back for more
Enjoyed the tasting menu. Staff were friendly and helpful. Coffee was superb.
Very affordable, understated food thats packed full of flavour! Dont forget to order the Ethiopian coffee at the end the meal off nicely
Definitely a must for every foodie! We had a great cultural experience.
The food is amazing! The staff were so friendly, well accommodating, professional. This place is great for a romantic dinner, or a big family lunch; perfect for being other people.
Amazing food. The lamb wot is worth every penny!
Nice place... Lamb too much bones. Chicken with eggs highly recommended.
Friendly staff, good atmosphere. Good food.
Friendly staff, simple (which I like) decor. Very poor selection of wines (literally, red or white). Tasty food. The traditional coffee is quite something - give it a try!
Nice to try and the staff are very pleasant. Food not really to my taste though. Im sure others may disagree.
Nice authentic Ethiopian restaurant with friendly staff and good tasting Ethiopian cuisine. Cosy atmosphere with Ethiopian beer available.
Such an amazing and authentic experience! The food is delicious and the staff are wonderful!
The hospitality was amazing. But more space is required for larger groups ..Also the lighting could be improved to give the place a brighter feel .People not comfortable with sharing should have more choices of dinner.
The food was amazing! The service was execellent. Typically Ethiopian. I highly recommend it.
Decor reminiscent of colonial times, selection of old clocks display cupboards where the table linen coffee cups etc is stored. The hostess whom i think is also the owner gives personal attention to all the guests, explain the food and how it is eaten. Most gracious and lovely person. The food is wonderful, and the mead, which is a honey liqueur, which in south Africa is called Heuning karrie , is served on the house as a digestive. Food presented beautifully and very tasty..the share platter is enough for two filled with different veggies, meats and rolled up flat breads with which you pick up the food. A very enjoyable experience. The after coffee is served in a small cup, very strong and sweet and poured for you at the table...Will go there again and again..A true reflection of Ethiopian hospitality.
Always enjoy a good Ethiopian meal and Queen Sheba are the best!
The food is delicious and servers were very attentive, but the food pales in comparison to Little Addis in Maboneng.
I really like the atmosphere at this place they have a fantastic veg platter which is delicious and live music on certain nights which is brilliant, donation based performances R50 min totally worth it, with lovely staff and great Ethiopian coffee.
Nice atmosphere. Good food
The food we had here was enjoyable however it was not very inspiring. What I did like is that it gave us an opportunity to enjoy authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The area is not a place which I particularly enjoy parking at night so ideally you want to get parking in a space close to the restaurant.
Old fashioned and made to fit environment. Good Service and parking no problem. Not for anyone looking for an up class experience but the food was really good and reasonably priced.
The food is great , nice location & true African experience
Unique experience. Interesting authentic food.
Lovely atmosphere, good food to very reasonable prices, friendly staff.
Fantastic food. Fantastic music. We will be back.
Food is great, service is friendly and nice vibe overall. Nice place to go with a group of friends for a chilled night out
Lovely place to experience Ethiopian cuisine. Awesome experience, needs open minded people.
Great traditional Ethiopian food. The atmosphere is nice and the prices are good.
If you want to experience and out of the ordinary place you must try this restaurant, warm, hospitality, good food, good service and amazing jazz on a Thursday and musical entertaining on a Saturday evening, a must try for the adventurous
Beautiful place, beautiful people and great food
Wow what a lovely place, with fantastic food. The food is spicy but delicious. The service was great too.
Share a platter for 2, absolutely delicious! We will defo go again!
One of the best Ethiopian restaurants I have been 2. The service is fantastic and the food is incredible!
Had my birthday celebration here and the staff was friendly , accommodating and just lovely
Superb food with lovely atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere. Loved it.
It was a very average meal. Service not marvellous. If you are a fan of Ethiopian food and eating with your hands you will enjoy. If not stay away.
Beautiful live music by Pops Mahommed! My grandmother enjoyed the food, evening and music....
Good food, great taste and friendly staff.Well worth the experience
Wonderful food, great service, very friendly environment, the owner make feel like you are home, so my experience was amazing, i will suggest for any one to go and experience Ethiopian food!💗💗💗
Friendly service, nice atmosphere. Nice if you want to try something new.
You really have to like Ethiopian food. I found it unappealing. Restaurant in Norwood on a side street. Plain decor but clean.
Great food
Great food, awesome music on Thursdays, friendly staff!
Excellent service with a real taste Ethiopia.
Authentic food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly & informed waitresses, warm & welcoming host, coffee.......divine!!!
Thats an incredible lovely place , the Ethiopians are such good people and they love their culture and always happy with smiles; in conclusion they so friendly.
Very tasty and affordable Ethiopian food. Good vibe and nice service
Wonderful experience. So glad we went
Amazing Ethiopian food. Would definitely come back again.
Lovely experience with yummy food.
My wife is Ethiopian and I am used to home cooked food from her and her relatives, especially when I visit Addis. Shebas food was as good as I have had in any of the multitude of Ethiopian restaurants I have dined in over many years. Well spiced, well prepared, and Teff injera. Really well done, and the owner and staff were friendly, helpful, relaxed, and made the experience even better. I will definitely be going back to this spot when in Joburg.
Loved the experience. Food is delicious.
