Its a nice place to have good prawns and fish. The staff is friendly and hospitable. Food is worth tasting. Its simple, and delicious.Parking can be a bit of an issue if you are not used to Fordsburg. Be careful where you park your vehicle and ensure you are safe.

Absolutely love the food here. The wait staff are also amazing. Super friendly. Great attitudes, great atmosphere and great food. Only thing thats missing is a nice play area for the kids.

Friendly staff excellent staff ready to please and very polite. The food was excellent. Hubby went with friends to the Rosebank branch and took me to the Fordsburg branch. Both branches are highly recommended

Horrific Experience! My family and I decided to try out Calisto’s Fordsburg. When we arrived the branch was experiencing load shedding. This is not a problem as we realize that it is no fault of the restaurant. We asked to be seated outside as it was dark inside. Our waiter arrived and we placed our order. During our meal, I tried on numerous occasions to get hold of our waiter. He seemed to have disappeared. We asked the other waiters to help us find him but no one seemed to be able to get hold of him. We placed an order for takeaway pizzas and drinks with another waiter. Soon after that our waiter arrived apologetic and confirmed our order. He then told us his name is Shaun. Once we were done with our meal we asked for the bill. This also seemed to take some time. The waiter arrived with a calculator and explained that because the machines are not working he will be a while with calculating the bill. This took ages! Eventually I went inside and asked the lady at the cashier desk where our waiter was and that it could not take this long to calculate 3 meals. Again the waiters could not find him. He came back to the table with a hand written receipt which was not calculated yet. The bill came out to about R1500. At this point we were all frustrated and paid for the meal and left. How is it possible that 1 steak meal, 1 kingklip meal, 1 prawn meal, 3 pizzas which cost R99.00 each and 2 cokes can amount to R1500 is beyond me! We were grossly overcharged and experienced horrific service.

Great food and service. However, I always feel that Calistos is missing a few items on their menu (not a problem with this branch, of course, Calistos in general.) Oh yes, forgot to mention that the place was recently revamped - looks great!

Dropped from my previous rating of 4 stars to a lousy 1. Had pathetic service during a weekday lunch period. There were a few customers only most tables were empty. We were a party of 5. Placed our orders and waited. The pizza arrived in a reasonable time. Fish and chips and a chicken prego plus a kiddies meal of fish fingers and chips had to be requested a few times. Computer software was blamed. Just on about an hour down the line comes the food. But they bring chicken nuggets instead of the ordered fish fingers. The waiter serving it says its fish fingers. My God my 66 years of life has allowed me to know the difference between chicken and fish. I wouldnt want to go there again.

Really great platters, if a bit overpriced. Take note that this restaurant is halaal, so no alcohol or pork is served on the premises. Location is a bit of a problem, and parking might be a bit scarce around the restaurant.

Probably the worse tasting prego in the country. It seems that no one there (including the manager) knows what prego is even though it is on the menu. They bring me an over salted piece of steak then tell me they can add masala on it to make it spicy. Pity I cant rate them lower than a 1.

One of my favourite Restaurant in Fordsburg It Has the best menu with many offerings like Seafood,Pastas,Steak,Lamb and Chicken lovely try it when you in town. Recently it has been Revamped with new looks and it looks amazing out side dining.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere in the restuarant was amazing.

This is by far the worst service of all time. We ordered food on orderin and we waited for 3 hours for the order. When we phoned them they said they are waiting for the delivery guy. They also asked if we could call mr delivery to get our order. If I could give 0 stars I would. Pity I couldnt cancel the order.

The chicken was dry. I ordered medium steak and they served me something that was practically burnt beyond recognition.The place is not cheap or even value for money. It was certainly a disappointment.

Horrible... I will never ever walk into this place again... A useless waiter that disappears for ages... due to load shedding we had a hand written bill by our waiter that gives the word useless a new meaning... and a possibly R700 overcharge (3 meals and 3 pizzas for overR1500!!) which we paid just to get out of this place without delay.

Ordered 3 calistos pizzas at 15:30 for collection at 17:30. Arrived just past 17:30 and no pizzas ready. Staff blaming each other. Shocking for such a reputable franchise.Update: received calls from 2 different managers explaining what the cause of the delay was and apologising. Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated.

When we arrived for a Saturday lunch, there was a small irritating scuffle with the waiter about where to sit, (every table had a generous 5mm privacy spacing next to some other customer), and about bringing the wrong amount of starters. He did apologise though, and handled the situation with grace.The bigger problem about Calistos Fordsburg, however, overshadows their crusty outdated menu (fossilized chilla and slojo powder for days), less than polished service, and bland and seemingly defrosted food altogether.About the food though, since we are talking about a restaurant: I choked down an unremarkable prego roll as I didnt trust the freshness or quality of the more complicated dishes, refused some of my mothers enormously tasteless pizza as she tried to pawn it off to everyone at the table, but did brave a teaspoon of sad tiramisu from my sister. It tasted like it looked. Like an old soggy defrosted dish sponge soaked in sugar. I regret not taking photos to support the review, but if you want any proof, it will probably be available and waiting for you in their dingy freezers - for literally all of time.No, my bigger fear about this joint was actually the hygiene, comfort and just general uptake of the place, which made us feel lucky about the food, considering our low expectations. It was abysmal.At a 90 degree angle of back support, the couches might as well have been torture devices. The seat covers also looked like millennia old cracked plastic (I could not stop staring at them), and there was food of all ages stuck in corners and liberally littered among the floor stains of previous customers. If I was to keep the illusion of a nice family lunch, I had to not look down, and instead kept my focus on the granny unabashedly staring into my face from the table next to us, because it was spaced 5mm away.And the cherry to top all of this: the prices were NOT cheap. Go take a look at theunconscionably exorbitant prices on the menu. If this place wasnt left to die in the garbage streets of Fordsburg, it wouldve been shut down anywhere else in the generally customer centric food scene of Johannesburg.Disgusting, but unfortunately also not an unusual trade off any decrepit Fordsburg restaurant would force on its choiceless Muslim target market: halaal food for quality service.
