A real gem in the heart of Fordsburg. One of the best restaurants to eat at if youre looking for some South Indian cuisine, absolutely delicious food, the amount of flavour in the food is incredible. Wow, this place never fails to amaze me every time I go there. The food is excellent. Lovely experience for the whole family. Pricing is neither extremely cheap nor over the top expensive which is good as it is indicative of prices that will buy you a scrumptious and very fulfilling meal for a quiet reasonable amount of no more than R100 if youre a single person. I can guarantee you leaving there wanting to go back for more in the future. Definitely worth a try!
Disgusting thrown away more then eaten seriously looking at the sorji alone I did attempt a taste and horrible, dry and burnt flavor, the colour WOW! So with my order a mutton bunny;fatty fat fat on the meat the curry itself was thick and ewww.... The beans bunny chow the potatoes =rock hard, another disappointmentHeard amazing reviews about the food now I wonder who is enjoying this food? Scam scam scam Will not be ordering again from here
Just had a meal here tonite for a table of 8. Every meal came out piping hot and delicious! Portions are generous too.
Good food, but very crowded. Noisy, inside and outside.
Here we found the original taste of Dosa which we had in india...even the south indian tea was awesome. I found no difference in tastes. Best place to have Dosa on Johannesburg
Food was delicious as always and the service.. Based on the cold weather would suggest heating the place up a bit, it was freezing inside the restaurant.. But other than that. Everything was perfect
Delicious authentic South Indian Food. If you dont mind the mayhem of Fordsburg its definitely worth a visit.
Nice south Indian food.. Service was good.. Staff was niceplace is neat n clean..
Great value for money, good experience in the area but the food was not great compared to the fourways branch.
The service is not good they take long to prepare the meals they consider big tables first
Good food, friendly efficient service (even though it was packed for a Sunday night) and reasonable prices. Portions could be a teeny more generous though? 🤔 but overall I would strongly recommend checking it out! 👌
The food was fresh and delicious. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The general atmosphere was also pleasant. Airy and modern. The locals dine here and that is always a good sign. We had the mild fish curry, with yellow tail and rice and a 1/2 tandoori chicken with chips and Naan. Delicious. The fish was a first for me and the texture and taste was unlike anything I had before. The ablutions were adequate but I would prefer not to have to open and close doors. A swing door would be great.
Food is good. South Indian specialty in Mayfair Joburg.
Great food. Wide variety and quality food
Interesting menu. Worth another visit.
Good food, good service.
An awesome experience. Good food and a great vibe.
Clean restaurant. Good food. Great service. Well priced
Awesome food friendly service .Must try there south Indian special teaFeels like homeFordsburg is for people who come with open heart ...
Gr8 south Indian food. Dosa a must try
Best service nice food..
Dosa are all time favourite, never disappointed 👌
The masala dosa is delicious, must be eaten immediately, the are well spiced.
I had my Sunday lunch for the first time here. I ordered for collection and when I arrived, my food wasn’t ready even though I can 10 minutes after the time they told me to. I ordered the chicken biryani but I personally feel it wasn’t worth the price. I had one dry chicken breast in my entire meal. The biryani wasn’t great unfortunately and I’d been craving biryani for days, it just didn’t have that thing. I would go back for the masala dosa though. That was a culinary experience I won’t soon forget but again, not worth the price for one dosa.
Best South INDIAN food.. Must try fish fry Indian style
The food is fabulous.
Ive been eating here ever since I met my wife and honestly weve never been anything less than incredibly satisfied and pleased with what arrives on the table!!! In fact last night we took my mom(a hater of cauliflower) and she was shocked at how delicious the Gobi 65 was (spiced cauliflower) so that in itself is a glowing endorsement! Will be back forever!!!
You domt meed to wait to fly to india and have Dosa s. The Dosa s are made quick and fresh her @Dosa Hut. The giant rice pancakes come with tasty fillings accompanied with sauces like tomato relish with fried dry chillies. My favourite one is the coconut sauce. They started a breakfast buffet on sat.& sun.For only R 59 p.personTheir Karak tea is divine. The only problem you ll have is the parking but the street behind got more parking available.
Food ans service was goodFood was spiceTaste was different from the others
Best place to get South Indian food. Their Dosas are Amazing. Beef fry with Parota is their best dish yet.
Great food... OooooOOOooohh the CRAB CURRY...TO DIE FOR, Mhmmmm...I still cant get over it!
Cold foods, poor service food not worth the price
Amazing food. Clean restaurant. The dosas are amazing. The Pepper Gobi cauliflower is insanely delicious. A hidden gem in fordsburg! Its now going to be my go to Indian restaurant! Highly recommended!
First experience at this little place in the heart of Fordsburg, Johannesburg. I can understand why it has a 4 ⭐ rating on Zomato. The food was delicious and well prepared. Wait time wasnt bad and service great. Unfortunately didnt get to try the Dosa but theres always next time and it will be soon. Value for money definetly. Oh, come early around 12 noon to avoid the Sunday lunch queues.
The curry from here is just out of this world
We ordered kababs and it was green so that was seriously weird. But thats dosa hut , very expensive aswell
Food: Decent as far as Indian restaurants go; very Spicy.Price: Very reasonable; large protionsHalaal: SANHA certified, Muslim ownedParking: Street parking is normally a nightmare, and often unsafe. Car guards are as much of a help as they are a menace. Park at the Oriental Plaza and walk/ Uber in and out if possible. Wheelchair ramp to pavement.Setting: acceptable. Not as crummy as the typical Indian restaurant in the area. But very much the vibe of being in a restaurant in India. The area is interesting but familiar, if youve visited the sub-continent.Favourite dish: N/A. My gold standard measurement for Indian restaurants is how their butter chicken compares to the old Delhi Palace, which incidentally was across the road. This was disappointing in that regard.
My favourite south indian curry house. Rustic decor and a fully seated restaurant sets the tone on weekends. Most chicken curries cost under R100 and most lamb curries R150. Ofcourse you should have a dosa for the experience - i would suggest ordering a masala dosa to share amongst 3 and then order a curry. I once met the chef who told me the signature dish is the Lamb Maliperalan curry - it is my favourite dish to order, along with Bhatoora which is a puffy large fried Indian bread. You wont find Bhatoora on the menu but you must order it.
Good food experience.
Food was out of this world....
Fantasic Naan breads, clean restaurant and great service
Not so clean. Food is going down.
Very nice, tasty and inexpensive place to dine at..
It was my first time visiting dosa hut at fordsburg and I will never go back there, I ordered a fish thali and it was terrible, they do not even give a fish fry with it and the fish they use is tin fish. Terrible experience
Great food at a great price and also good service. Recommend the mutton bunny, masala fried fish with Kerala paratha, Butter chicken with the chilli and garlic naan, half tandoori chicken with a Kerala paratha, Onion Pakodas, South Indian special tea and also the Bombay crush. Generally, everything on the menu is of a high standard for a reasonable price.Just tasted the Chicken Kandatom today, and what a revelation, super spicy, tasty and complex. Definitely another great dish from this establishment.
Very poor service. Staff are rude.
Delicious food. Great service. Good price.
Best South Indian Tea and food
Amazing it was perfect food although the waitress didnt know the names tea needs to be improved to get authentic
Phone order was ready well before stated time. Well priced and tasty.
Good place to enjoy your food . I don’t like Dosa much but I enjoy their chilli Chicken .
Super friendly staff, clean environment, good priced and nicely served food. Definitely value for money
Amazing south Indian food. Expecially the dosas. The lime juice is a delight. Another must try is the thali meals and kerala parathas. Authentic tasting curries too.
Great food!
Delicious dishes. Crowded.
Best South Indian food. Great kerala fish curry and the best ever tasted. We get all dosa varieties.
It was very nice but the bathroom wasnt clean . The food was great and the service
