Oh my God this is a wedding venue from a horror book... Went to look at the place last week Saturday and the paving in and all around this place is absolutely horrific.... No bride should be allowed in this place. We were walking the path that the bride would take and nice..... Tripped over the stupid paving and broke my toe.... Thornbirds you have a lot of revamping to do.... But then again I guess its all about the next fast buck.... Wedding quote ignored.... Thank you.... Next.

I think i arrived at the wrong time plenty cars , no people . Iv been told they serve a fine lunch just not sure exactly where. A lot of work going on around the grounds of Thornbirds , no signage saying which direction to take , couldnt smell any food being prepared perhaps better luck next time .

This is a gem tucked away in the south of Johannesburg. My wife and I decided to visit the venue for lunch on Human Rights Day. The welcome was warm and friendly, and the lunch was superb. The food, prepared by their able chef Jermaine was delicious, and naturally we settled for the oxtail with mashed potatoes and spare ribs with chips with a side dish of hot veggies, finished with lemon tart, traditional milk tart and chi coffee.The owners (Dr John Athens) and the manager Jonathan along with his wife Lee-Anne made us feel welcome and cared for. Its a good place for a good meal, and the surroundings is lush with vegetation and greenery. The establishment is animal friendly. The prices are reasonable. Not open for supper though lunch and breakfast is available. Well done!

Disappointing. No one seemed to be around when we arrived. The rooms are stark and bare and they make you pay a deposit of R800 which you get back 5 days after you leave, losing much of it to bank charges and exchange rates. Breakfast was good though.

The place is exquisite the trees, flowers etc nice area to sit and relax while sipping your cocktails the hall is big enough to entertain your guests bathrooms are close by and very clean.

Food is overpriced for what you get, and most of what we wanted to order when we were there for lunch, was either not ready to be served (condense milk tart) or was out of stock. The service was great though.

I was very disappointed with the customer service. I was a paying client but was treated like they were doing me a favour by renting their venue and kitchen facilities to my company. The head chef is very unprofessional and has no business or communication skills. He actually threatened my colleague after she complained about him to the venue coordinator. He wanted to throw us out during the event to show us who is in charge!? I wouldnt recommend this venue to anyone who is serious about their event. There is too much drama behind the scenes and when you have an event you cant afford any silly distractions. Very disappointed!!!
