One of the best experiences of my life. The friendliest staff I have ever met and the service was outstanding. The food was amazing. The spa was outstanding. Every game drive was incredible and the bush walk was beautiful. The elephant interaction was such a wonderful end to our stay. Can’t wait to visit again.

One of my most memorable and enjoyable experiences. Incredible staff, food and accommodation. There really is not a thing I could fault. Absolutely nothing was to much trouble, the attention to detail and personal care given to each member of our party was exceptional, from allergies to vegetarian requests... the food was not only absolutely delicious, but the presentation out of this world... and if you went hungry there was no one else to blame but yourself.The accommodation is tasteful, clean and comfortable and the housekeeping staff are a blessing. The ambience and decor is sophisticated, but simple,warming and comfortable. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere for couples looking to celebrate a special occasion, team building exercises to a family weekend away, or just friends catching up to make special memory. It really is a bush escape for all. It is an experience worth having, everyone is friendly and the rangers even come to your eating table to check up on you Sbusiso and Sipho were very pleasant and always made sure we were comfortable even during the game drive. From the entrance, rooms, spa, eating area and he view with animals walking past is just beautiful. We get a full three course meal which is included in the accommodation and the food portion is not a joke they make sure you are satisfied you also get to order as much as you want without extra costs Remember was our waitress loved her service. They provided a big cake for our birthday celebration free of charge which was surprising. The kids get the same quality of a spa treatment as adults do, everyone is treated equally. Cant wait to go back. River lodge Spa. Loved everything and everyone we met.

Staggering. Kapama is certainly the best game reserve we’ve ever experienced. It will remain in our memories forever. The staff were sensational; you feel catered to at every single second of your stay. The game rangers made sure we saw all of the Big Five throughout our trip. When it comes to game viewing, this is the pinnacle. We went in winter and the private and public pools were both freezing cold; however we’re told in summer it’s so ridiculously hot that you’ll need the cold water. The spa was sensational. The food could have been a little bit better over our stay; but everything else made up for that. I would certainly recommend you visit Kapama.

We has the best stay at Kapama Karula. The staff are excellent and so kind. The food was incredible and delicious. Our waiter Dennis went above and beyond for us and ensured that we were always comfortable. Our tracker, Collin was one of a kind and was extremely knowledgable and pleasant. We were extremely lucky to have seen all of the Big 5 on our first game drive!! By far the best place we have ever visited. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Southern Camp is wonderful. Beautiful spacious villa with very comfortable beds. Great safari with good sightings and excellent guide/tracker. Delicious food and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

I was so excited to try Kapama after a few I know have been to River lodge and rave about it, I decided to choose Southern camp as it had the villa option and seemed better from the advertising. But wow was it disappointing 🥺🙈If you are a serious bush person, this lodge is not the place to be at. Ranger and tracker we got were by far the worst we’ve ever had from 5 years of wonderful safari visits around SA.Guide & tracker : It was more a checklist for our Ranger to show us big 5 for 5 minutes each and then drive aimlessly for the rest of the drives, as soon as a big sighting was done the rest of a drive seemed to have been wasted and we drove around aimlessly following no fresh tracks and listening to no leads from the radio while the rest of the guests were out seeing incredible sightings the exact same time. Seeing the big 5 isn’t a checklist for us, as we’ve seen them already. It is more the adrenaline and excitement of chasing fresh tracks and animal movements and seeing quality sightings. Even if I didn’t see the big 5 I would’ve been so much happier if I just had an exhilarating guide and tracker that shared their knowledge. I also asked him questions about the certain prides and packs and he could not respond.While we are well aware this is a bush experience and much of it is luck, we know multiple other guests we spoke to had great sightings that were communicated to them via radio and they were predominantly in parts of the park that had fresh tracks and movements of animals which we didn’t have. Our driver was driving in an area of the park that had no fresh tracks for 3 hours and when we asked the tracker what we were looking for he agreed there was nothing on that side of the park.Service : On the second day I requested an iron and ironing board, and over 40 minutes later and 4 phone calls to reception we finally got an iron, that was just shocking service for a 5 star place?! 😂 Room service is also not an option at this place despite it being a 5 star lodge so that was also interesting?Birthday dinner : My boyfriend tried to organize a birthday dinner which the manager spoilt on the day of arrival. Later that day we were told that actually we can’t request any special menu and will be served the same food everyone else will be eating. We were quoted R1750 over and above the R40 000 To be served the same food as everyone else. Every other lodge we have visited go over and beyond and out of their way to make occasions special, including setting up lunch or dinner with no extra charge. Let me not forget to mention that they still tried to charge us for this R1750 at checkout and receptionist told me that it was drinks we had at the bar (drinks were included in our package).Overall view : Sadly these last few points along with other small issues in addition to this which I won’t mention all takeaway every extra effort that could have been made considering this is supposedly a 5 star lodge and the experiences we know family members have had at River lodge.Regardless of this experience we still made sure that we tipped our waiter, Ranger and tracker despite the dismal efforts we received.A very disappointing experience for me considering I chose this place out of many lodges to spend my birthday at, we gave Kapama the feedback and really weren’t expecting much and alas all we received was a “Sorry” 😂 so while you all ask me about this reserve. I think it’s an incredible reserve but don’t go to Southern camp. I know many people who have had a better experience at River Lodge.

Excelent place and excelent staff, everyone was really kind during our stay. We really enjoyed our time there, the food was EXCELLENT too. 10/10.... i highly recommend this place. Shoutout to Jeffrey (our guide on the game drives) and all the staff, we were able to spot the Big 5 along our stay. I am definitely coming back!!

An absolutely, fantastic adventure full of excitement, learning and thrills. The facilities are splendid and service is impeccable. This was our first safari ever and we completely had a marvellous time right from day.Our safari rangers - Ian and Phil - made our whole experience full of fun and exciting. They are truly professional and full of knowledge. We saw all the animals we expected to see and many more.The food and service at every meal was excellent with many tasty options to choose from. Our hostess, Florence, was super friendly and attentive, always making sure we were taken good care of.The wifi connection was surprisingly fast and reliable but we barely really used it anyway. At the front desk, Tembequile was lovely and super enthusiastic. She helps us with anything we needed to coordinate - with her beautiful contiguous smile!A truly dreamy place we will never forget!

Awesome experience. Over the top service . Our driver and tracker were really great. We saw every animal there. Gerard and Jeffrey did a great job. The food was awesome. I felt like royalty. Our waitress Argentina was very attentive. We didnt go without anything. The atmosphere was very cool the place was very clean and beautiful.

Had an amazing time here. Staff we attentive, room was amazing, the lodge was brilliant. Food, oh my god, couldnt fault a single thing. It was a buffet style and the range of choices were great. Dinner by the fire pit every night was magical. As for the reserve, well the drivers and guides were amazing, we never felt like there were 8 or 9 other vehicles in operation as we all went separate ways. The spotters were so skilled they we managed to see the Big 5 after just 2 days and then we were lucky enough to repeat on the other days. Cars were kept at a safe distance and never interfere with the animals. So you really get a sense of no human interaction or intervention, the animals were truly wild. I have travelled all over the worlds and this has been my favorite of all my trips. If I could offer any advice...... Do a safari and come here, you wont be disappointed.

We spent 4 days and 3 nights at Buffalo Camp. Service and food was outstanding - all Food and Drinks were included in our program. Monica our guide was a treasure of knowledge, Collin our trekker was amazing. There is a vast amount of animals in this resort - way beyond the big 5. Shakes, our Server was outstanding. They are very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Would love to visit again.

Kapama is the best place that Ive ever been to. When you arrive, the staff greets you very friendly, they help with your bags, give you a tour of the place and also gives you a rundown of what to expect and the program. The food is of top quality, with a variety of food to pick from with breakfast, lunch and supper it accommodates everyone. The drinks is also amazing. The waiters are top trained and very professional, very helpful with anything that youd like to eat or drink. The chef is also friendly, made conversation with guests numerous of times. The rangers are very well trained, highly skilled. They made us have an experience with the animals that weve never had before. They gave us lots of interesting facts about the animals and really know what they are doing. Every morning and every night you have the option to go on a sunset/sunrise game drive. They also treat you with drinks and snack before every game drive and during the game drive while you enjoy the sunrise/sunset and animals in the background. The rooms is something form a movie. With a private swimming pool, outdoor shower, a bath with a beautiful view of the bush, mini fridge, massive bathrooms and loads of closet space. The rooms were shining and room cleaners come in twice a day and make the beds, clean and stock the fridge. They also have a library with sofas, computers with internet access and a TV. I was very comfortable during my stay, I cant complain about anything. The best holiday of my life.

This is a very nice game reserve with excellent guided tours. Tours are well-priced and very informative and there is plenty unique animals to see. There is a restaurant with fresh deli-style food.

Great food and lodge is fantastic. After sarfarisxyour ready for a nap and the beds are great with plenty of cool air. Shower is enormous! Double sinks so both you and your spouse can get ready at the same time. Animal galore and out of your balcony you see many animals!

Wonderful. Has a wide variety of animals to see and compared with three other game reserves that we visited, has dirt roads good enough that we could travel far when needed to get to them. Since it is a private reserve the guides in different vehicles could cooperate to point out what was where and when to view it.

What an excellent place to get closer to the nature! We utterly enjoyed our time here. All big fives can be spotted here and the guides are knowledgeable, helpful and ours went out of his way to find the animals. In addition, the guides are also passionate about their work, which made it as fun as it can be.

Wonderful experience, wonderful staff, great rangers and trackers... Lovely swimming pools, lovely environment, beautiful game drives, amazing food. Whats not to like...? Highly recommend it.

My husband and I stated at Kapama Game Reserve during our honeymoon and were so grateful for the kind, thoughtful and generous staff we had the pleasure of working with at Southern Camp. We spent three nights and enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms were beautiful, the staff was great and the morning and evening game drives were more exhilarating than either of us expected. I would highly recommend Kapama for anyone looking to experience a truly memorable safari in South Africa.

I spent my honeymoon there many years ago and can not wait for the day I can return. It was the most memorable, peaceful, rejuvenating, enjoyable trips I have ever taken. And that was when all they had were tents in the bush. IT WAS AWESOME. (I am not a tent/bug/no air conditioning person) (I never missed modern conveniences for a moment.)

The place is amazing!!the spa is amazing with the warmest staff and environment!it is scenic and relaxing,the entire staff was awesome except the one chef Vera,despite her food being tasteless her attitude left very little to be desired for! Otherwise this is your ultimate safari destination!

One of the best reserves there is, the food is just out of this world. Friendly staff, you just feel at home.

What a wonderful experience to stay here. The rooms are comfortable with a balcony/patio that looks out into the bush and at night you have a clear view of the Milky Way. The guides and trackers are all friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. Our guide Freedom and Noel tried their best to get us to see the Big 5, taking us literally through the bush, but we only saw 4 (the leapard was hiding out in the lodge. The food was very good with a variety of food.

Had the most amazing experience, to be able to observe these beautiful animals in their natural habitat. Very well trained staff (Ranger and Spotter) who totally respect these animals.

A fantastic experience the whole stay was organised so professionally from start to finish. The staff were all brilliant and looked after us. Our ranger Joas and our spotter Moses were just the best, they were extremely knowledgeable and very passionate about the animals and the whole wildlife on the reserve.Would definitely recommend this trip and will definitely return one day.

Absolutely beautiful here. Food is very good and something for everyone. Suites were super nice and comfortable. Our guide and tracker, Phillip and Kenneth were excellent and very knowledgeable. Honestly, the only drawback is the wifi gets very weak in the rooms but a quick walk to the library and wifi signal is very strong and reliable for posting all your safari pics. Id recommend putting the phone down and looking around. Its quite an amazing place.

My experience with Kapama was by far the best. We arrived at a previous lodge,which was rated a 4 star. In ny view, they should be degraded and get only 1 star.We booked out and into kapama. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, and Thembie who helped us explain everything in detail. Ill recommend Kapama anytime. The architecture to the fame drives,to the food,to the spas. Wow. You should have a 6star. .Nay you continue to prosper from strength to strength.

My wife and I were at Kapama 2 years ago and we still talk about the amazing experience we had there. From the amenities to the staff to the animals- every aspect exceeded our expectations.

Would not question spending the money to stay at Kapama again. The luxury you experience is totally worth it. All the staff are very helpful and attentive. You get a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a spa with the most beautiful and tranquil setting in front of a lake. During my massage about 10-15 elephants came to the lake to drink water, it was so surreal and made me feel like I was getting a true African experience.As for the game safaris - unbelievable! You get to do 2 safaris a day; one at sunrise and the other at sunset. We stayed for two nights which meant we got to do 4 safaris in total and we did all of them because every time we went out we saw something more mind blowing than the safari before. I’m not one for research until I arrive on holiday so I had no idea what to expect but wow you really just drive around finding animals in their natural environment. Given how much of a business these animals are to Africa I really thought they would be digitally tagged and tracked to make sure we see all of them, but they are not. The reserve leave the animals to be themselves, kill their own food, reproduce etc as they normally would out in the wild. Rangers track the animals by their poo, foot prints and radio’ing other rangers and knowing their lifestyle patterns. We saw 20+ types of animals (basically everything) except a leopard, but that’s not to say you won’t see one. The rangers saw a leopard one and a half days before we arrived ( I followed one of them on Instagram and the proof was there). We weren’t bothered because we got to see two male lions eating a giraffe! Very raw and real which was incredible to witness.Overall, the experience of the lodge and the amazing animals we saw made us feel like working hard back home was being rewarded by this beautiful experience.

This place was awesome and deserves 5 stars despite a couple of issues.The safari experience was out of this world. We were lucky enough to have Michael as our driver and Banele as our tracker, these guys were exceptional at telling us all about the animals we encountered, their tracks, behaviour etc and at the same time, they respected the animals by giving them enough space and knowing when to back off. We saw the big 5 and then some. As a keen photographer Im afraid my pictures wont be shared on here but believe me, we got really close to the big stuff.We were lucky to have the safari vehicle to ourselves for 2 or 3 drives so we felt like royalty, out tracker; Baneles smile was infectious and his character was awesome. He also made a superb morning coffee out in the bush.The food was superb and we had Olga looking after us at mealtimes, she was very attentive but not over the top. She was a lovely person and made us feel special and it was a lovely surprise to see her leading the staff song during dinner. We took her to one side at the end of our stay to personally thank her and she seemed genuinely touched by this.We personally felt a bit pursued by housekeeping, to the extent that as soon as we got to our room at any given point of the day she was there knocking on our door, we had the feeling that this was for tips and we didnt take too kindly to this, so we started to put the do not disturb on our door as soon as we went in to stop this happening. This worked I am pleased to say.We still give the place 5 stars as it was an out of this world experience, the only reservations we have is the housekeeping as above, the expectation of tips (it is a poor country) that sometimes overpowered and having personally witnessed people being asked by staff for tips, they would have got nothing had they done the same to us, poor or not. It is an expensive holiday and thats a big no in our books.That said, we did tip our guide, tracker and waitress as they didnt once give the impression that they expected it and they were genuinely lovely people so credit where it is due.Otherwise, the only oddity was that your guide sat with you at dinner and this was a little weird for me and my better half as we like to keep ourselves to ourselves for mealtimes. Then on day 2/3 the other people that joined our jeep also sat with us at dinner and didnt speak a word of English (they were Brazilian) so they couldnt converse at all with either us or our guide = awkward. We found ourselves eating rather fast as a result to get out of there.We didnt expect this so towards the end of the holiday we asked to be seated on our own table which felt more like what we would expect as the norm, but this wasnt advertised so if it makes you feel uncomfortable, do ask and they will accommodate you.All in all this was a superb holiday and the safari experience laid on by Kapama is one that will remain with me until the end of my days.I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anybody.

Its a lovely family fun place

The best place to enjoy Safari, good and tasty food, and beautiful suites

Kapama River Lodge was everything we would like & more. We were very nervous taking our children who are 10 & 7 years old, however the staff at Kapama were very accommodating & treated our children so well.  Marinus our guide & Bernard our tracker were amazing & a great team who worked well together and their persistence ensured we were able to see the big 5, particularly the elusive Leopard. The hotel is in great condition & furnished beautifully with a local touch. The family spa suite is very large and the kids beds fitted nicely. Be sure to stay 3 nights in order to enjoy this lodge & you will get to see the big 5 plus more! One negative is that the Kapama reserve has huge power lines running through in one section which makes the park less natural but if that doesnt bother you then this is the place to come to if planning a trip to greater Kruger National park.

Different loges inside provide different services, but in general a all round grate big 5 area, and Camp Jubulanie and HESC makes it a must if you are interested in animals, or the weather is not pleasant for a game drive.

Very good you get what you pay for.
