Absolutely loved this trail, breathtaking views and amazing scenery.Max (agent/owner) was a great sport, there are clear briefings before the hike, great communication even during booking or when you ask for directions to the place (because it really is a hidden gem). The trail is moderate, a lot of climbing initially and then more level ground in the last 3km or so.Definitely will be going back, as it is also very easy on your pocket!PS: they only take cash.

Nice, chilled and a friendly hike, nothing hectic. Family friendly environment. I enjoyed hiking though maybe due to the lockdown effect it was quite crowded on a Saturday morning when we visited hence loud and busy. Spectacular views during the entire hike. Restaurant at the entrance for refreshments. I loved it and will most definitely do it again.🥂Price was very friendly ZAR 80.

Very easy hike, I think I can do it with my son this one. If you are obsessed with clean water streams then this is not the hike for you. Overall experience is good the service is great and the views are not bad either. There is a dam with beautiful beach sand great for a picnic even a romantic picnic. I am not giving a five because of the polluted water

This was the most informative hike, Ive been at. The history of the place is very rich and its our South African Gem. Thank you to the chef for the wonderful burgers, home made,... The patties were devine.Overall, I would recommend the place for its scenery and tranquility, not to mention, a mini beach area 💕

The hike is real, sloppy, steeps, streams, plantation, the breakaway areas to view the peaceful attractions and the serenity of the place is unbelievable. Finally, the food is reasonable and the ambiance is great. The spirit of the manager, fun and inviting.

This was an easy hike for beginners. Take the NECSA 1 gate and follow the road to africaland...pay R80 per adult & R40 for kids in cash at the boom gate. Secure parking and friendly staff with clean ablutions and a lovely icy pool at the end of the walk. Pets are welcome. We enjoyed the hike which is mostly along the crocodile river, a few hills towards the end. Scenery is beautiful. Lots of slate deposits. We managed to finish within two hours with our boys aged 8 & 10. Well worth the money!

Had a lovely moderate hike here. Some cool little river beaches to stop at and other nice lookout points & spots to chill. The river does wash up some litter :( As do a lot of our rivers... But at least it wasnt foaming with chemicals. Also, they make some really solid pregos/burgers. Very nice spot to chill after the hike. Was a great time overall.

Walk was great, dont go if its too hot...bring extra water. The river was full of trash and smelled disgusting even from far away...that absolutely ruined the experience (I know this is not the reserves fault). the place was pretty void of life, not bugs, almost no birds, only a couple of skink lizards...we spotted a monitor lizard from a look out point ( we were lucky)

What a beautiful hike this was. I think it is ideal for experienced beginners (i.e. might be a bit too hard for a first time hiker) and anyone with a decent level of fitness. I think because the place is so beautiful, the hike should be slow paced to enjoy the views. The only unfortunate thing is theres quite a lot of dirt by the river 😔. I wish they would ckean it up. Overall Id definitely recommend this place

Fairly easy hike 7.4km (on my watch) with a few uphills in the last 2km’s.Great scenery the whole way, well marked and the trail is clean. There littler is on the banks of the river that obviously comes from the river. Sad sight to see.Dogs are allowed but unfortunately I didn’t get to see any.We got there at 7am and we were done by 10 because we stopped a few times. There is a little beach on the side of the river where you can stop and have your snacks if you take any.Entrance is R80 cash only.Suggest wearing good shoes as there are a lot of loose stones/rocks along the way.Great trail. Would definitely recommend.

A true little gem on the R104 and forms part of AfricaLand adventures. Very friendly and help full staff to show you around. The original Preller House has swimming pool facilities, clean bathrooms and picnic areas under big shaded trees.Hike is close to 7.8km and for all levels of fitment. Stroll thought the field along the river path for about 1,5km.Views over the greater Pelindaba or Necsa area and the greater Broederstroom. Some up hill walking but most of the terrain can be done by anyone.

((And a one and two and a one and a two))Peddle pledge come on ‼️‼️‼️Did my fist official MTB trail Africaland - Go Wild in Phaladingwe Nature Reserve, Hartbeespoort and I so enjoyed it. I did the “ winging it “ trail meaning I follow any path I feel like turning into. Definitely challenging on the muscles 🤪but that is soothed away by the majestic views of rushing rivers and slate covered mountains ⛰⛰. Definitely one of my favorite places to hike and MTB🚵🏻‍♂️Sit down for a delicious meal ,beer or refreshment when you done and talk about the day of hiking or MTB adventures with friends. Oh the jack russel is the ❤️ and loved to come say hi and howdyDefinitely strike this one a a must on your bucket list 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Great scenic hike that offers lots of shade in the first 4km, then a somewhat average uphill hike for a bit. Markings are visible and facilities are clean. Just come early to avoid the torcherous sun.

Review №55

This is not your regular tourist hiking trail, narrow and challenging with some drastic changes in terrain but well worth it.The route down to the river is steep with lots of loose rocks and when you are down next to the river you have to work your way through the wreeds. This is also the part that will show you how dirty we humans are. You can see where the river last pushed up to and the area is littered with plastic, quite a sad site.Once you go back up the landscape changes to big open grass land with beautiful views down the cliffs to the river.Dont miss the lookout points as some signs are hidden or on the ground but the trail is very well marked otherwise .Some negatives though, there is supposed to be 3km and 8km trail but its unclear if this is true since there was no maps or different trail signage. The river section is also quite close to the Hartbeespoort road so you cant escape the road noise there. All in all it is a good challenging hike.

This place is unbelievable. Beautiful scenery all around. By far the best hiking trail.... I love it because it is in touch with the realities of our everyday lives watched from natures perspective. It delivers the sound of the river to perfection. There were 10 of us that participated in this hike and we all agree that we will be doing it again. Also the people are friendly and welcoming... no games here, just nature.

The trail itself is good, but there’s litter everywhere. It was also crowded with people yelling across to each other endlessly. While the walk and scenery are good, I wouldn’t go here again.

Ta
Review №77

Was difficult to find the place as there is NO SIGNAGE. The Online directions gets a bit confusing as you reach closer to the location so Signage would help with that. Its Very Poorly managed. There was no staff to offer information of the hike, we had to figure it out for ourselves. NO signs pointing out the start / finish area. Its a cash only facility. The owner could have informed us prior , it was an inconvenience to drive to the garage for an ATM not only for us but for a few other hikers as well. The hike is NOT suitable for kids under 12 yrs unless they are super fit. We had 4 kids (8-11yrs) and they struggled. There is only one trail...its about 8kms. Its very difficult terrain so not advisable for first timers but rather experienced hikers. Lots of litter along the way. Not well maintained at all. We were extremely disappointed.

El
Review №78

Nice trail that isnt to tough. However there are few rest areas on the trail. Also the litter in the area is disappointing. Poor trail markings or maybe just a missing one lend to us getting lost on the trail ending up on a road and missing like 2km of it.

The hike was the down to the river that was terribly polluted. It looked like the river had flown through a rubbish dump and all of the refuse was caught in the reeds and tree branches. The water smelled like sewerage. I’ve never seen anything like it! Absolutely not worth the price! Was a depressing scene!

A Picturesque 7.8 km hiking trail that is well markedand costs R70 pp (2019).The hike loops from the Preller residenceand back again to the parking area.No maps are provided but the trail is well used and well marked so thereis no chance of getting lost.Day visits to the pool, picnic or braai area cost R100 pp (2019) and is well worth spending time at and includes the hike. The host Margaret makes sure that all your needs are met and is on hand to make everything as comfortable as possible. There are three pools which provide a welcome swim after thehike as well as ablution facilities.A day really well spent!
