You can donate funds to aid the restoration of this beautiful historic building. Details can be found on a sign at the Old Toll House. Do yourself a favour and continue on with the Montague pass and enjoy the picturesque scenery. On the downhill side of the pass you can enjoy wine tasting and a glorious cheese platter at Herold Wines. Definitely worth the travel. The road is gravel but accessible by all vehicles.

Very interesting history. The normal person to serve coffee and pancakes was not there. The caretaker stepped up and served us. While we were enjoying the coffee and pancakes he told us about the history, the fire and rebuilding/renovating of the house. He is very passionate about this historic place. Great experience.

The History of the Old Toll House is fascinating. Before the fires in November 2018 it was a beautiful part of the history of the George Montague area. The restoration is currently underway, but it will be slow as funds need to be raised. But dont let this hinder your visit. On weekends the lady who is responsible for the TLC and restoration with her volunteers offer delicious pancakes and coffee for a small donation which goes towards the restoring of this beautiful part of history. The mountains are beautiful and vegetation is growing again. It will take time but once it grows again the area wìll have its authenticity again and beauty. Help this wonderful cause and pop a few bucks into there restoration fund tin. It will be worth it to see it restored in its beauty again.

The Old Tolhuis was saved by a group of dedicated individuals who call themselves The Friends of the Old Tolhuis. The restoration has taken many years and was made possible with the generous donation of building materials and back breaking labour. The place has a cosy atmosphere and pancakes and coffee is served by volunteers on Saturdays. The views and 15 min drive from town is worth it to breathe in fresh mountain air.
