The food was good, but theres room for improvement on seasoning of their steaks , I felt like something was missing. Their non alcoholic cocktails were great though 👌; we had to go for a second round.

Absolutely fantastic! Sitting at the fish tank is so relaxing, perfect for marriage proposals. The seafood platter was gorgeous with a delicious garlic sauce. The wine selection is good. The service must be worked on though, the staff member setting up at the door did not greet us, the waiter was also a bit condescending, however we held our own. My score is based on the food, fish tank, atmosphere and background music.

Lovely views of tanks with sharks in and other fish. Friendly staff. Complimentary sherry was served and the platter ordered had delicious king klip, prawns, calamari and such. Food was excellent. Lovely experience.

Its a lovely atmosphere for couples without kids. Beautiful views of the tank. Very overpriced menu. A poor choice of variety of foods. Loads of fine print to read through. Unfriendly service. Waiter forgot my drinks order... then didnt get it right... I ordered a Greek salad.. It came as a bowl of peppers with cucumber feta and olives. Overall the atmosphere was calm and intimate. I would recommend booking your seat by the tank in advance.

Food was delicious! Loved my Ocean Water cocktail. Looking at the sharks while eating there was truly an experience. One note though: not really a casual restaurant, very fancy with light classical music playing. Not really a place for a wet family just coming from uShaka with busy, maybe noisy children. But I loved it. Great place for a romantic quiet meal. The mussel pasta I had was one of the greatest meals ever!

I was there this past weekend, i had my engagement there, it was one of the best restaurants i have ever been to. The staff were absolutely fantastic and helpful and the food is value for the money you spend. A very big thank you to the manager Jarad, and his great team, we all will definitely be back soon. The cargo restaurant been trying to get in there for a few years they Were alwaysFully booked finally got a booking food was I would say the lamb shank was done done well very soft but very little veg plate was full of pieces of cut up peppers , it should have had less of the peppers.Had tiny bits of cauliflower and tiny bits of other veg .The prawns was a good portion but was salty and and over spiced looked more like curried prawns .The dessert was very limited chocolate volcano which was tasty with ice creamThe creme brulee was not nice at all as you start eating the inside of the creme brulee the custard looked very whitish like old custard .The duck was just a big chunk of duck not even sliced to make it look apertising .I think overall the food needs to be prepared better .Could be with covid the menu is limitedThe service is excellent with head chef coming to check all the time .Also made up a plate especially for my birthday with chocolate writhing and chocolate volcanoThe chocolate volcano was the best .The view of the sea creatures was fascinating while you eatThe staff went out of their way to get us a bigger table with social distancing and all.We had a good time at the cargo hold Durban

Booked a table next to the tank weeks in advance for an anniversary dinner. This was expressed to the gentleman taking the booking who stated he would make a note of it (being a special occasion and all). Got there on time at 7pm and seated in the middle on the restaurant. Was told my booking was for 6pm and there were no tables by the tank. An accusation that was clearly an obvious cover up for the ineptitude of the staff.Needless to say we left immediately. Not one to make a scene. Ruined what was meant to be a special evening. Such a pity.

Terrible service, when I called to book a table they said the kitchen closes at 8.30pm, I go there at 7.30 only to be asked if I was aware that the kitchen closes at 7.45pm, we said no but we know what we want so we will put the order through before the kitchen closes, we order a lamb shank only to be told there is no stock 🤨, how disappointing. From the time we entered the service was not up to standards. We ended up leaving the restaurant and going to something in umhlanga, and WOW the service was absolutely amazing, cargo hold staff should get some pointers from them..... #disappointed, dissatisfied customer

Top of the range restaurant you could find on the Golden mile. The atmosphere was great. Covid19 protocol were followed. The restaurant does allow you to reserve a table beforehand which is advisable if you want the table near the aquarium. The meal was on point.

Food was amazing but one would argue that you go for the view. The only downside was that i didnt get my leftovers but someone elses but that is honestly not the end of the world. Would definitely visit again

A rather high class meal experience, prices are well worth the food. Sitting next to the shark tank while having dinner is a hell of an experience as well. All meals were done to perfection and the ambient atmosphere was absolutely perfect, I cant wait to go there again!

We recently visited the cargo hold for our date night. It was our first time at the restaurant and we were excited about the experience. I am glad to say that our expectations were met in terms of service for this caliber of establishment and they were surpassed for the quality and taste of the food provided. We wanted to try some new options and decided to order the kudu and duck dishes - both of these were just spectacular. Something that I found useful was the wine paring suggestions on the menu. Overall an excellent evening. Our compliments to the chef and staff.

What a terrible experience. We returned our sirloin steaks only for the manager to explain that the meat had actually bled out. He brought out an uncooked sample which was pale and lifeless. We then ordered chicken and fish, of which the chicken was dry, the fish had bones, rice was tasteless and they brought out the wrong sides for the chicken. Not a fine dining experience at all.

I was a bit miffed the first time my husband and I tried to do dinner there, as I felt the hostess was a bit uppity when she told me they were fully booked. Nevertheless, I booked for lunch the following day, and I didnt regret it! The food was well cooked and presented, the chefs are not afraid of flavour, and the food came piping hot! Drinks were delicious too...in fact, I was so impressed I immediately resolved to come back with my extended family. Definitely go there, you wont regret it...but note their opening / closing hours and BOOK!

My girlfriend insisted on spending Valentines Day at this venue so she booked us a table with a stunning view of the fish. All I can say is what a treat. From the outstanding food to the professional service and of course the amazing scenery, we could not fault anything. Every dish that came out just got better and better. Our waiter made us feel right at home. I will be back to celebrate my birthday next month.

As invited guests for my brothers birthday this past weekend we had an awesome time at the Cargo Hold aquarium. The food???? Nothing short of outstanding from flavour to presentation. Everyone scraped their plates clean. Big ups to the chef! The selection of cocktails for the ladies they offer were really unique and delicious. Sneh who was the lady that served our table was absolutely on point. She recommended wines & dishes to pair with which is very rare nowadays in upper class venues. The manager to made sure our night was flawless and kept the mood jovial. You guys are simply awesome!

I finally got a table at Cargo Hold after my third attempt. On the previous occasions my reservation was lost or they were double booked and unable to give me the table Id reserved.This time I made my reservation 3 months in advance and called to confirm it. Twice.The reception was as impersonal and borderline rude as Ive come to expect from previous visits, but once inside, the restaurant is quite lovely with a fantastic, tranquil-yet-relaxed atmosphere. I got to enjoy this all the way through my starter, however, just as soon as I ordered the main, a family with kids sat down at the table across from me. One boy promptly pulled out a Gameboy on its loudest setting and proceeded to make the entire place sound like a gaming arcade.I assumed that, given the restaurants self-proclaimed status as a fine dining experience, someone would politely address the parents and ask them to turn it down for the sake of other diners.No such luck.I was very tempted to cancel my main order and leave, but Id been looking forward to this experience for months. I stuck it out through my seafood platter, but the incessant ringing and beeping from the table opposite ruined my appetite. I was hoping to do a full 3 courses, but I couldnt bring myself to order desert. I was about to drop nearly R1000 on a meal in a room that sounded like the Magic Company outlet at my local shopping mall. I asked to move upstairs, abandoning my tankside table, but the noise carried even there. I ordered a coffee, swallowed my disappointment and left.The aquarium tank is lovely, the food is good and the wait staff are nice. The food is priced at fine dining rates, but sadly, my experience fell far short.

The restaurant is beautiful, we were lucky enough to get a table next to the tank. The fish were a great distraction for the kids. Our meals were delicious. I recommend trying this restaurant.

The highlight is dining whilst watching fish go about their business.. but the muscle pasta I ordered spoiled the experience ..it was extremely bland, certainly wasnt worth the price .. lacked creativity ..a bachelor can make a better pasta ..I even felt a bit sick from it .. service is also mediocre ..

The Cargo Hold Restaurant is truly amazing and is located right on the beach next to uShaka Marine World. My boyfriend and I went there for our 6 year anniversary and it was lovely. The music creates a peaceful vibe and the fish right next to you makes you calm. Everything is just perfect. The food is also delicious as well as the wine. All and all one amazing restuarant, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Loved it so much!

Crappy service. Expensive food. Asked for a medium rare steak. They brought a medium to well done steak half of which was just fat. The crayfish they brought to the table was over cooked and very tough to eat. The waitress also had no idea what the drinks were. Ocean baskets food is half the price and 4x the quality

Beautiful ambiance and view regardless of where you sit (but reserve a table closest to the tank for the best view) , absolutely dreamy cocktails, excellent service, delicious food and very professional staff. This restaurant became my go to place for supper during my vacation there.

Menu has changed from our last visit. Curry is gone. My salmon was good but hubby chicken was over cooked. Would have awarded 3 stars but eating in a shark tank, earns a four.

The service was poor and the waitress was absolutely rude had to leave the place, never setting my foot there.

Great menu and cozy setting. I witnessed one of my friends propose to his lady there. Great staff as well. Gopd for big tables of 8 or more also for 2 seaters.

Excellent & well prepared food, knowledgeable and efficient staff and the large aquarium stocked with an interesting array of large & live sea creatures make this a fascinating and attractive dining experience. Highly recommended!

Wow wow wow, this is one of the restaurants you have to visit while in Durban. The view is amazing, seeing all the marine life swimming around while you enjoy your dinner. We had a starter, main and dessert. There was absolutely no complaints, everything was amazing. The taste was pure and true. The service is 1st class and spot on. Well trained waiters and staff. Will definitely visit again and again. Keep it up!

Great ambience for a semi romantic lunch or diner, provided some other guest isnt tryna do some fancy event and spoil your evening. Also not great for kids as they tend to not consider other guests. The space inside is small so if people move around its almost on top of you. But that being said... some of the Food is Amazing... well the Lamb Shank and Steak we had was on point. The second visit we did was a little less fantastic, the sea food platter wasnt well prepared. So I suppose if you can guarantee that there are people there who respect other guests and dont treat it like a spur... then you can have a good time. Just over the value for money line, but its a decent eat-out spot.

Very disappointing experience. The food was average, the decor and interior neglected and old, and the prices were high. Most horrible though was the service. From the person who took our reservation to our waiter we’re all rude, abrupt, and acted as if anything they did for us was a favour. Please do not waste your time or money on this place.

Great atmosphere with views whilst dinning, however theres an average waiter service. The food proportion is quite big, so you must have a high appetite.

Made a booking for 6 people yesterday at lunch. The service was terrible, even though the restaurant was empty we were barely greeted by the hostess. No waiter appeared to take our order, we ended up having to flag someone down. Our drinks order was taken by the most unfriendly waitress, after waiting 30 minutes for a simple drinks order, we decided to dine elsewhere. The standards have dropped massively since our last visit, well never return unfortunately.

We tried to entered in restaurant but the reception woman not allowed us to enter inside the restaurant. She said: From reception is not allowed to enter in restaurant, it is only for eating not for photos we just wanted to sit and eat but very angry woman kick us out. Not recommended very rough reception.

What was once a dining experience to behold, has slipped into disappointment.Theres no sharks in the shark tank.The waiters are so nonchalant about their jobs that after 5min of us seating ourselves (we had a reservation and were shown the direction of our table), nobody came to introduce themselves or offer us drinks. So I flagged down the lady (who was casually standing at the point of sale machine). She came over and took our drinks order. 30min later we received our drinks... 2x beachcombers and 3x hunters gold.Now Im by no means an irrational or high maintenance customer, but it does not take 30min to make 2 drinks.We paid for our drinks and went to Ocean Basket.-Management, you guys need to up your service game, as well as menu options. Unfortunately in Durban/Umhlanga/Ballito, customers are accustomed to a high standard of service and menu options.

This rating really should be a 4-star rating because the food was good and the ambience with the marine life swimming right next to our table was amazing. But the pre-dining service and the waiters service was way below par. We booked ahead of schedule via email and received a very prompt response for our 17h00 booking. Now being from out of town, we called ahead to find out where to park and which entrance to use. We were also running slightly late as we were driving from Ballito and got caught in a rainstorm. Firstly, it took three times before they picked up their phone. And when they did, they proceeded to tell us they were closing at 18h00. Now their website advises that they close at 19h30 and we raised this, only to be told that their website had not been updated. It was only upon our insistence that they agreed to accommodate us. When we arrived we received a very cold reception as the restaurant was almost empty and it seemed that the staff had wanted to close early. We were unfazed because we had booked and based our booking on information on their website. Our waiter was visibly sighing and did not have a welcoming attitude. And the manager did not come and check in on us, not once. Now as we were sitting and ordering our food, we observed as three other sets of diners were welcomed and sat down for their meal. We were highly disappointed and dismayed by how we were told that they were closing at 18h00 but now other patrons were being seated after 18h00. Really disgusting service! Despite all that, we still stuck to our practice of tipping generously. We had made the most out of the experience and had created lovely memories, despite the saboteurs and sub-standard service.
