A dining experience not only for ones tastebuds, but visual and tactile too! We enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu which consisted of large enough portions not to leave a hungry gap to be filled with something at a fast food joint! The presentation of the individual dishes is incredibly creative and artistic! Customer service 5*, value for money 5*, would I go again? Yes, Yes, Yes!!

Good Japanese restaurant with excellent service...we paid R985 each for the limited menu with the 12% obligatory tip. The full menu costs about R1350 both excluding any drinks...the meals were well prepared and well presented...as its fine dining the courses are extremely small... As the pics attached would show... So even eating all the courses its not the equivalent of a normal plate of food... Maybe half that... So not advised to come too hungry... Desert was average but suppose the meal is more about the main courses...Regarding value for money... Well I dont think so...we had the Fine dining experience at Utopia restaurant for R199 and found that was excellent value for money with stunning views etc...

Very delicious food in an eclectic setting. The wine pairing was delicious and there were wines on offer that you literally cannot get anywhere else. We were definitely full at the end of the meal! Unfortunately we had to remind the staff to refill our glasses (small portions of wine for R600 a head) and although the food was definitely delicious, I wouldnt mark it down as original - similar things are being done throughout the city. I also found the manager to be rather stand-offish and unwelcoming when we showed up for our reservation.

Lovely dinner! We came here as a group of 12, and Fyn was very accommodating of the dietary restrictions for some of our members, myself included. I appreciated that our server took her time discussing my meal options with me before finalizing the details with the chef. I was also super stoked that they offered a vegan option for the whole menu!

Just around the corner where we stayed on Parliament Street 5th floor of Speaker’s Corner building. Wonderful design restaurant with amazing Japanese-African fusion cuisine. Fyn restaurant is a Japanese and African fusion restaurant with a set menu. It is well worth going to, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I can highly recommend the Perske Boom cocktail that has a rooibos tea base. The wine pairing is worth doing as it takes the guess work out of which wine to have.

Review №28

Great restaurant with an interesting Japanese fusion tasting menu. However, a few things could have been a little better. There were some really long waits between some of the courses that dragged out the whole evening. Given the additional R700 for including wine pairing I would have expected a better experience there. The wagyu was tougher than I would have liked and in hindsight I should have gone for the standard beef rather than the wagyu supplement. And the restaurant was incredibly cold! Come prepared with warm clothing :)

Located On the fiifth flour, beautiful view to table Mountain and Lions Head, depending, where you are seated. All courses were excellent. Nice ideas with the melting butter. The sorbet was also nicely presented and delicious. The sommelier was stunning, fantastic knowledge about the wines and their taste. Service was very good and well organised. The restaurant is not to big, so its not that noisy than in others. Just let us finish the champagne, before starting with dinner and the wine flight... 😉

Top class Japanese inspired tasting menuThis morning when I woke up I had no idea what I was having for dinner tonight, with my wife’s cooking I rarely do. When I got to the office though, I remembered that my daughter was sleeping at her school tonight, outside on cardboard boxes (seriously). Safe in the knowledge that she was set to learn valuable lessons about the less fortunate, I decided that without the burden of the third wheel, my wife and I could have a decent peaceful dinner.Oh glory, what a pleasure walking in and instantly knowing you are in safe warm hands. I don’t have to tell you that the food and service is great, you just know you’re not at McDonald’s. The kitchen is completely open and we chose to sit at the kitchen counter to have an up close and personal view of the ‘wekes’. You can imagine my disappointment when instead of seeing slaves whipped and screaming and sweating into the food, I witnessed boring calm organization! You just can’t find good kitchen drama like you see on one of Gordon Ramsey’s shows. The food is described as Japanese, but with a twist. There are some obvious SA flavors incorporated which provide some much needed love for our country (yay... go Proteas!)And like paying tax, the bill arrives and you know that tomorrow is another day at the office where the big wheel turns, but at least you will have the blissful memory that your own sweat and screams are all for the purpose of a joyous night out on the town. — eating dinner with Haley Conolly van Aswegen at FYN Restaurant.

We were lucky to have stumbled on FYN while surfing the web. The website’s layout had us excited for a refined dining experience. However, it was not until we met the hostess located within a contemporary South African art gallery that we were pleasantly surprised and transported while simultaneously grounding us in reality. We were finally in the Cape Town that we flew more than 10,000 km to experience. The authentic yet exhilarating feeling you get when you step off the elevator at the fifth floor, you are immediately cognizant that you are not at just another fancy restaurant. The tasting menu only exponentially compounded this exhilarating authentic vibe the atmosphere was giving. The eclectic South Africo–Japanese fusion is seamlessly refined and was absolutely sublime. The wine pairing couldn’t have been more flawless and harmonious. It goes without saying that the wine we were served was all South African. (I took pictures to pick up a few bottles and take back home). It is appropriate to conclude this with FYN’s human element. The staff – manager and servers – were not only charming, but well-informed, witty, au courant and on-point throughout the evening. One could say they are well trained, experienced or well-managed, however, there are things that cannot be taught. While they worked as a well-oiled machine, one could sense this team–camaraderie element geared towards giving the best customer experience to ensure the restaurant’s continued success during these COVID economically difficult times. More impressively, the genuine individual personalities came across as they easily engaged with their guests throughout the evening. In short, we will be back very shortly.

This is truly a difficult review to write. Fyn is Fine Dining of highest standard and located at a truly great location with fantastic views. Staff was super friendly, great interior and service also great, you are not over-serviced as it is sometimes the case at other Fine Dining places in and around Cape Town.So what went wrong? The restaurant does not offer a menu choice, if you book, you get the tasting menu which is basically just short of R 1000 per person. If you chose to add the wine pairing, it will be another R 500 odd on top. The portions are very designed and in my view over the top. Flying Fish Caviar? Give me a break. I wonder who would have noticed the difference between Flying Fish and usual fish caviar. One might argue that is then simply not the place for me and that the price is reasonable for a tasting menu of that kind.I ate at a roof top restaurant of a 5* Hotel in Stone Town in Zanzibar, it was several courses and equally designed at a much more reasonable price. I just think that Fine Dining in Cape Town has gone over the top.If you are into this style, let my review not stop you from booking. The good thing is that you dont have to book 6 months in advance to be granted a table as it has been common in other Fine Dining places in Cape Town. And the setting and views are really special.
