It was my first time eating at the Blockhouse Kitchen in Constantia and it definitely wont be the last.While the food was undoubtedly the main reason we left satisfied, the venue itself is modern and inviting. We loved the fireplace which kept us warm on a chilly night and thought the interior of the restaurant was beautiful with its glass walled entrance and large vases between the tables to help maintain social distance.Blockhouse Kitchen is located on the Constantia Uitsig wine farm and next door to the popular Range Markets. Visually, it is stunning, offering some of the best views the Constantia Winelands has to offer.The menu was mouth-watering and gave us pause as to what we should eat and we definitely were happy with what we ended up picking, and the service was diligent. All in all a lovely place for dinner.

Ambience, food and service equally great... Alright, the food was amazing!! We were lucky today to have windfree, bright and sunny weather.

It was a pleasant experience to visit the blockhouse. For those with children the play area is fantastic, easily accessible from the outside tables.The setting is beautiful and the food was delicious.The prices are a little high for the main courses with a gourmet burger upward of 135. But you are paying for the location and the service was prompt and detailed.

An elegant venue -Excellent service.Well managed.Our breakfast was prepared as we requested and served within fifteen minutes of placing our order.I will definitely visit this establishment again.

My charity Cope with Hope arranged a lunch for a very special lady,Kim,for her 60th birthday (the lunch had to be postponed by a week due to her terminal illness). Throughout the entire process,staff member Melody was so accommodating & patient. We finally made it yesterday & we had a fantastic time. The food was filling and very tasty,the staff were very friendly & didnt hesitate to assist where needed.Thank you to my friends Soli,Shaz,Rory & Dani for joining and making it extra special. Great food at a good price. Excellent service. This place is great for kids as there is a play area for them. There is also a fire so this place is perfect for those cold winter nights.

Relaxed atmosphere for a Sunday lunch. Service was warm, friendly and the waiter had intimate knowledge of the wine and food served, making great suggestions 😀.The table had a trio of tasty starters. The cheese burger, accompanied by a dipping aoli for scrumptious chips was a definite winner for me.Walked away, ready for the week 😁

Food was amazing we had one of the chefs special (crispy beed) and ordered it twice as it was soo good. What was also really yummy was the baked cheesecake. Kids had fun as they have a park which makes it child friendly

Visited Blockhouse Kitchen a few weeks ago with some friends. It was my first visit but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be going back.We arrived and were very happily greeted by our waitress, we order various coffees and they were brought efficiently.We then moved forward with ordering our breakfasts. We ordered our various breakfasts and another round of coffees. The breakfast was delicious and was very much enjoyed by all.Will definitely be going back again and look forward to it very much.

We went for the breakfast and it was very nice food and decent portion sizes. The waiter was friendly and gave us good service. The morning was cold and we sat inside were they had fire burning but it hardly really warmed the room with people going in and out by the door which was annoying.

Tense and hostile environment and not customer centric. Although you are able to order wine, they grab any alcoholic drink from your table at 8pm. They should rather have a cutoff for serving wine which allows a comfortable time for enjoyment, rather than wait for 8pm and doing their gulp it or we grab it approach. Disappointed by their failure to balance covid protocol compliance with quality customer experience.

Great, relaxing atmosphere

Loved the setting, service and food. The small plate was quite big but food was yum. We shared a bottle of the non alcoholic grape juice and it was amazing. Great if youre driving too. Ill put a photo of it up here.

What can I say about Blockhouse Kitchen? Judging by the number of times(7) Ive dined there since the turn if the year, its got to be one of my favorite restaurants. The main dining area is beautifully furnished and the tables are nicely spaced, giving one a sense of privacy while still maintaining a cozy atmosphere. There are also 3 outdoor seating areas for those who prefer alfresco dining. The service is great. The staff are friendly and attentive. They remember the regulars and always stop for a chat.The menu offers just enough variety to satisfy varied tastes. My wife is vegan, but there are sufficient choices to satisfy her taste. My favorites are the rib eye steak and the dirty cheese burger. My wife enjoys the vegan Cape Malay curry and the Beyond Burger. The desserts are a must! Also look out for the specials which are in addition to the main menu.In addition to dining at the Blockhouse the Uitsig wine estate has a variety of other attractions including a bicycle track and wine tasting. The is also the lovely Nest Cafe which serves lighter meals.

Starter way to sweet for my liking, main course dry however atmosphere, location brilliant along with the entertainment of the occasional baboon checking in on the service and guests.

Seemed nice but we were rushed to leave due to curfew. Would love to go back under a more relaxed setting. Divine food. Steaks cooked to perfection

What a delight to once again support our beloved local restaurants, even with masks removed at our table we felt safe and comfortable next to a warm fire. The lamb shank was out of this world, meat was soft off the bone and the gravy and mash was delicious. Yes we will be back again.

We were a large group for breakfast. The food was excellent and outstanding service that was discreet and efficient. A great kids play area although you cant see it from inside the restaurant. Rather go for brunch and sit on the deck if you have kids.

I visited the place today and the burger was absolutely amazing. The fries were perfect and went well with their garlic mayo sauce. I will definitely be going back again.

We have a spontaneous visit on a work Friday morning for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised how quiet it was. Food and service was of the expected and standard and the venue has its own unique charm. Highly recommended!

Ordered the pork belly with potatoes and purple slaw for R180.Now look, technically a shredded red cabbage with a barely detectable miso dressing is a purple slaw, but like I’m not going to a restaurant to whip me up something I could make in my kitchen in 2 minutes.The pork belly was soft enough and the potatoes were ok, though there wasn’t enough gravy. I didn’t love it but i didn’t feel ripped off.The slaw, though, was just lazy, cheap and unimaginative. It’s an insulting thing to serve. A decent restaurant is one where ingredients and dishes are surprising. I could have had this slaw at the least sophisticated braai in town.The waitresses were kind enough to bring me the garlic mashed potatoes in lamb gravy to make up for my complaint, though they forgot to add any lamb gravy.Mussels were excellent. But in two trips to the Blockhouse everything else has been disappointing in some respect. We’ll probably go back for the mussels at least once more, but not again if the other food is as uninspired.The chef should visit the Life Grande Cafe in Waterfront to see what can be achieved at around this price point.

We just had the most divine anniversary dinner. Each of the three courses was unbelievably tasty. Quality ingredients, amazing flavours. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. Thoroughly enjoyed!

A little bit overpriced compared to places of the same type. The Soda and Spicr battered Hake was the winning dish with enough seasoning and delicious crispy potatoes.Unfortunately I cant say the same about the Sustainable Fish. Even though the fish was cooked perfectly and the veggies great and had enough crunch (just the way I like it), the flavoring could definitely be improved as it was pretty bland.Hubby had the slow braised lamb shoulder, also raved about the veg and accompanying tzatziki but also felt the lam itself could have had more flavour.The dessert was ok. Nothing to write home about.On the plus side the setting is truly lovely and the service was great.

Food really good. No BYO wine a problem, but wine list is good and reasonably priced. Service staff friendly but not up to the standard expected at a good restaurant. Definitely need training, our waiter was really poor.

Loyal customer over the years. After every visit it got more disappointing. The manager in charge of the restaurant, who we could not understand, where arguing with us over R75. We supported the restaurant with rescue vouchers (where we were supposed to get an extra R75...) and made sure all friends visit there. Food is average, sorry but that was just too much. Not coming back, not supporting anymore!

Lovely place. Delicious chai latte with almond milk. Quiet on Mondays so best time to take the kids for a play to enjoy the play area on their own.

We visited for my sisters 30th birthday. Our waitress, Linda, was absolutely lovely. Great service, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was so relaxing. I had the Korean Chicken Burger and will definitely be back for it soon. Everyone else loved their food and cocktails.

Very bad service. The dishes are too sweet. Even the salad is totally sweet. Furthermore there dont understand the rule of their own vouchers.

Coffee was really good not sure of its because I havent been out for almost a year but was really good, didnt get to ask what beans they use but will be back for sure. The setting is really beautiful the mountains and open spaces made for a good space to visit during the Pandemic. Id suggest a take away coffee and croissant and a walk on the grass.

Great location lovely view of the mountains, massive bike park for kids. My partner and I went for lunch on Saturday tried the Asian chicken burger and soda battered hake. Burger was on point, but fish was slightly underwhelming and bland. Theres also a good drinks selection. However I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fresh air, decent food and superb service.

The best cocktails in the south, their food is also tasty and it comes in fair potions. The place also offers magnificent views and a play area for kids.

My second time at Blockhouse and Ive been disappointed yet again. Our reservation was taken for 10h45, but when we arrived we were rushed to place our breakfast order because breakfast was only until 11h30, it wasnt even 11 when we were being rushed. My spinach was not washed properly so the first bite into my meal left me chewing sand. When I alerted the waitress to this, there was no apology from her or even a manager. I ordered something different to replace that meal (which wasnt great either)and when the bill came the waitress told us I didnt include the Florentine on your bill as if she did is a favour. My food had sand in it! And to top off the whole experience we were yet again rushed to leave by 12 because they had another reservation. So my family and I had 1 hour 15 minutes to enjoy breakfast together. Overall a terrible experience.

I always look for the quality of the products, mastery of flavors and cooking techniques, value for money, setting, service and consistency between visits. The most difficult part is to decide impartially, fairly and honestly review which is very difficult as we all have different taste buds, styles and expectations; Therefore my reviews are based on my “Papilles” and experience. The BHKs setting is romantic with lovely views overlooking rambling vineyards climbing up to Elephants Eye mountains. The food was good, tasty with nice flavors accompanied by a lovely white wine. Polite staff, the service was great; Rob and Steven took good care of us, we will be back for other dishes...

Lovely venue and great and friendly service. Food very disappointing and bad value. My husband had the pork belly which was tough and dryThe liitle cabbage salad and potatoes were nice.The bottom was almost burnt and very overcooked. I had the prawn and chorizo pasta. It was mostly a tomato sauce with a few slivers of crisp chorizo and TWO prawns. This at R175 was extremely bad value and very disappointing.

Great venue, great service and great wine, but very ordinary burgers, which we were told was one of their more popular meals. Well return but definitely choose something else to eat.

Very uptight atmosphere. Very pricey. We were asked to move while 2 people at our table were still eating because table was booked to another party. Which they never advised when they ordered. When we left the tables we were moved from were still open.

Had a lunch today- what an amazing experience. We sat outside on the terrace and with all Social distancing and Covid Protocols in place!Then it came down to ordering. Our server- Yolanda was exceptional. She was kind, and friendly, but most of all knew everything of the menu! It’s rare where a person can do this so flawlessly.The manager came to our table a few times, and really impressed us. He didn’t have to ask if we were enjoying ourselves but engaged in meaningful small talk-I highly recommend this place

Very busy, ordered coffee with almond milk which tasted burnt and the almond milk had seperated, coffee was sent back but I was still charged for it. Tried to order a gluten-free breakfast and was served bread despite asking that the bread be left out. I was told it was gluten free bread and from Pie in the sky bakery which does not list gluten free bread on their website. Overall the food was disappointing especially for the price point and Ill not be coming back.

We enjoyed our lunch experience at this establishment. It enjoys great views of the vineyards and mountains while having a play area for the young children.

Bad food slow service tables where filthy. And even though they apologised and acknowledged that the the kitchen was at fault I still got billed for the desert that was sent back so rock hard couldnt get my spoon in it. Never setting foot there again😡

12/05/2021 My parents visited and ordered a pecan pie which was supposed to come with orange syrup, but was served with garlic oil instead. Their complaint was not acknowledged and they received no apology or remorse.
