Wow, amazing food. Had the Crayfish Curry (Hot) and it has so much flavor and was just the right amount. Tried the butter Naan instead of rice and wasnt disappointed, the Naan was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff and manager are very friendly and efficient.Definitely visit the Taj Mahal again soon..Russel is an amazing host, thank you to everyone.

Sorry my review is not great. Had a dinner date with my wife, the crayfish curry hot and mild... flavourless and tasted like a basic curry with very very small tails added... no seafood / crayfish taste... rice had lots of black specs in it. My samoosas filling was all cooked away and as flat as 2 pieces of cardboard.Sorry but I will definitely not be back.

I was here on Sunday 22 August 2021. Extremely disappointing in the service. I dont mind that the place is a tad old/outdated. I do mind that the table and crockery and cutlery was not clean. Waited long for waiter. He appeared to the waiter and the cashier and the manager. Starter of the saddest looking and tasting samoosas came after 50 minutes. The actual food came after 1 hour 40 minutes. I would have left if it wasnt for my darling husband. The fish curry wasnt too bad but definitely NOT worth the wait nor writing home about. The kids chicken strips and chips. The worst ever. Teeny tiny shreds of breast chicken fried hap hazardly. The biggest piece was a thin cubic centimetre. I know its lockdown and restaurants have been hit hard; its not easy to maintain sufficient staff however a timeous weather check would have told you be prepared for crowds.

Terrible.. I got to the door and struggled to open it. The guy just stood inside arms folded, watched me and did nothing. He didnt even come over and assist with showing us where to sanitize our hands in this scary COVID period. I had to use my own from my bag. He handed us the menus when we were seated and when we told him we had the Entertainer app for a 2 for the price of 1 deal, he said oh, hurried off to the back and came back a few minutes later to tell us that it didnt apply on Sundays - lucky we had asked before ordering and eating. The place has a very unfriendly and unwelcoming vibe. Not cool at all.

One of the best Indian style cuisines in town, vegan/vegetarian options are amazingly tasty. Ask for Indian-hot if you think you can handle heat.

Fantastic vegatarian dishes and great service

We had take out last night and the food was absolutely lovely. The portions were very generous and there was enough to feed another one or two persons (we were 4, ordered 4 mains, 4 naans and 2 rices).The flavours were superb, the service super sweet and polite when I came to collect...Taj is our fav indian food in the bay. Love love.Always happy to support them!!

A little attention to the interior in order to make the environment feel warm and comfortable would go a long way to making this place a much better overall experience.

Terrible restaurant, the food was not good and it was on the Entertainer App and they said they dont use the Entertainer, they just use that to lure people to the place, they want the popularity of the app, but when it comes to using the discount, they say they dont accept it. Stay Away.

I am visiting Cape town saw the add and thought to give it a try. I was craving for some indian food 😋 had paneer Tikka masala hot and lamb karahi.i didnt expected such nice food as I was the only table sitting. Very satisfied and highly recommend to visit.I will definitely come again on my next visit.There indian hot is very hot. portions are good too

Its hard to find good indian food in capetown that always pleases.Tasty, interestingly spicy, not strong but really tasty, Taj Mahal tends to keep the quality of their food and taste good Everytime I go there. Very happy with the good work, please keep it up.

The most awful food I have had. The food was stale and so oily. I wouldn’t be surprised if I found out the the food had been recooked a few times. The butter chicken tasted like pasta with vinegar and the chicken was certainly not fresh. The palak paneer was a browny green colour - definitely over cooked. And the Prawn curry had 3 prawn that tasted old and a bottle of oil thrown in. Not to mention the condiments that’s ere delivered with the food that I didn’t order, no visual appeal what so ever. Absolutely disgusting. It should be illegal to make and deliver food like that. You should be ashamed that you charge people the prices you do for absolutely nasty food. I regret ordering from you and this has unfortunately tainted my ordering out experience. And especially during covid-19, a time that good and wholesome business that are putting all their effort and passion in, who are struggling to survive, you think it is ok to serve that ‘stuff’ to a customer to eat. It’s down right thievery!!

I stumbled on this place with Hyperli and must say I was truly impressed, my family and i were welcomed and was astounded at how quick the food arrived.Taste was authentic and delicious, there are many indian restaurants, however this is one of a kind.Will frequently visit!

I can find few occasions where I would suggest let alone recommend this venue. Definitely NOT a Date Night venue as we had hoped, we booked a hyperli voucher for crayfish curry. We grabbed a drink and starter at RTs above Taj and were very impressed by the decor of the restaurant (we did not venture into the bar area as they had a function on) when it was time for our reservation at Taj we walked down to be greeted by an extremely empty restaurant and the unGodly smell of stale sweat everywhere we went to choose a table. The manager had to usher away another waiter who had made himself and his cellphone at home at a table apparently meant for us as per the managers seating plan.We sat down for all of 20sec and our stomachs could take no more. I apologised to the manager and quietly and calmly explained why we could no longer stay as I saw a woman approaching from the street, who came to collect take away. Probably her safest option to avoid the assault on her nasal passages.The manager burst into a rather loud and aggressive speech, in front of the female patron, to tell us no one had EVER complained about a smell. Fine, maybe nobody had, but today, I did. We let him have his say, slam the menus down on another nearby table, and we left. I do not know what was said to the patron who witnessed this whole showdown but I can imagine he tried to throw us into bad light. Oh well.Heed my warning, the interior is WORN. The seat backs are nearly worn through, the table cloths are tatty and well used. It gives off the impression of dont come here for the experience or service but come for the food... well I hope that is the case as we will never be tasting any to find out.Taj gets a 0 out of 5 from me till a wash and a revamp.

The only Indian restaurant we could find. Good food and service. Republic bar-longe upstairs, but was too busy enjoying the authentic cuisine to bother.

We stumbled across this place whilst visiting Hout Bay. Admittedly the exterior looks grander than the decor inside however this is not uncommon with some restaurants. We were greeted by a welcome face and ordered some delicious food. I had the Murgh Masala (choosing medium heat - as they typically allow you to choose which is great). It was absolutely delicious! My husband went for another chicken curry dish which was also very tasty and made with spinach ~ hence it’s dark greens brown colour. We both left there extremely satisfied, having dined well for a relatively great price. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Prompt service. Excellent food. My personal favorite prawn curry anywhere in Cape Town. It must be Goan style because they are still in shell and taste as if prepared for Mozambique peri peri style before being tossed into a curry.They dont serve alcohol.
