Moderate hike up table mountain. Beautiful views. Trail is very straight forward and easier than India venster but still a little challenging especially in the direct sunlight. Took around 1.5 hours up. Midday hiked solo and it felt very safe. Early morning would be best for this hike as shade is limited. Can cable car down or hike back down. Saw a Himalayan Tahr mountain goat and its baby on the way down so definitely made the struggle on the knees going down worth it! Highly recommend this for heading up table.

Such a rewarding hiking trail. First, its challenging to reach the pinnacle, which is a great way to exercise and odd enough, socialize because of the many friendly people who hike and like to have little conversations. And then you get to the top! When you get to the top, the best reward is the expansive, panoramic view of the best city in Africa, and of course, the Atlantic Ocean.

This hike is brutal! Youve been warned. It might be the safest way to either go up or down table mountain but be prepared for a difficult ascent/descent. If youre going up, youre going to essentially be doing 10 000 lunges, thats what it felt like to me. Your quads are going to be on fire! If youre going down its a lot easier but your knees will take a beating. Regardless of this, the hike is still absolutely amazing with some incredible views and when you either conquer walking up or down this behemoth of a mountain youll feel a great sense of accomplishment. The trail is very easy to follow. If you havent been hiking or exercising I dont recommend trying this, you will suffer a great deal. This route is only for people that have been keeping active. Ascending or descending table mountain is not for the feint at heart, its a challenge but very rewarding.

The start was quite beautiful. Good views. The early morning light added mystery to the photos. On arrival at the Cable car we were disappointed to discover that the cable car people had closed shop and gone home. It was lunch time Sunday,!! We were a group of 48 people who booked tickets one way down. There were roughly 300 people on the mountain. Many had not prepared to hike down. The weather was perfect with a light breeze. On top of this the ablution were locked, as was the shop. UNACCEPTABLE. Bad for tourism.

An excellent adventure to the top of the Cape Town world. Depending on what time of year you go, there can be some flowing rivers that wash over the path, or a dry sparse nothingness that leave just you, the bush, and the boulders. If you plan on hiking all the way to the top I highly recommend bringing at least 1 litre of water per person, if not more. Very breathable clothes, no pants, no long sleeve shirts. Make sure that if you burn in the sun, than apply loads of sunscreen and bring a good ventilated hat. Snacks are nice as well as you will stop a few times to catch your breath and to enjoy the view. A perfect opportunity for a quick banana, apple, sandwich, etc. This hike is NOT an easy one, you are at a constant upwards pace and the stairs are staggered rocks. Ideal times to hike are early morning 6:00-7:00am or late afternoon from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Anytime in-between and you will encounter the sun constantly beating down on you from overhead. Be safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the views.

Excellent hike up table mountain, well prepared and maintained. Its not for the unfit though, several hundred metres of altitude in the scorching sun on a sunny day especially when you start in the afternoon. Bring water, a hat and good hiking boots. We hiked up and down as the wait for cable car was a good 1.5hrs so be prepared to be hiking down as well :)

This is a stunning hike! However it can get extremely busy (in a way that spoils the hike a bit for me) over weekends; Saturday mornings🙈; it is actually a 5.53km hike from the bottom to the resting area of the cable way One way! Don’t be fooled - it’s only rocksteps up and down. It needs a moderate fitness level. Don’t pack a lot bcse you can get enough to eat and drink on top of mountain at kiosk. Taking the 🚠 cable car down is a good alternative for down at a cost of R200.

This is the fastest way up, not the easiest. You do need a reasonable level of fitness. Do not go up mid day, there is minimal shade. If at all possible go down using the cable car or another easier route. It is not kind on your knees since it’s steps all the way.Other than that, try it once, get the t-shirt, then do other routes.

Would not suggest hiking up this if you’ve spent the day before drinking all day, as we did. In any event, we still made it all the way up! Really nice views looking down on Cape Town and over towards Signal Hill. For visitors, I’d suggest hiking one way either up or down table mountain and taking the cable car the other way.
