The village needs a few upgrades like landscaped gardens and more rides in the recreational area and more businesses to operate catering for wider audiences other than that it has a great village feel to it.
Came across the Oude Molen website. It looked very interesting. Checked Google if it was open around lunchtime on Mondays. Yes! Decided to pop in for a cup of coffee, maybe more, maybe purchase some fresh produce.Expected a vibrant creative arty inspiring vibe. The reality? Its mostly a dump. Dilapidated buildings. Except for a bright blue swimming pool surrounded by industrial vibacrete. Not much eco to be seen, but a lot of car wrecks and other ugly discarded junk. As visitors we were studiously ignored. People driving around the compound with cigarettes hanging out their mouths provided the ambience. The place, and the location has absolutely enormous potential. For an initiative that started back in 1997 its certainly going nowhere fast.A depressing disappointment. The place should be handed over to an initiative that will do something worthwhile with it.
Five stars for a great kid-friendly place. We had coffee and toasties alfresco in the garden area outside the coffeeshop. There were little ones playing along with a host of chickens sharing the space. The waiter was friendly and helpful and overall its a lovely hidden gem.
I was mildly surprised by what this place had to offer. The prices are a bit extravagant, especially for the food - thats rustic at best. Charging by the hour for a play area is totally ridiculous, rather charge a nominal fee of say R30 per child, with family rates if you have more than 2 kids.
No one expect this oasis in the middle of suburbs. There is a diverse array of activities, businesses, local schools and community programmes. Oude Moulen is well know for the horses. Horse riding is offered as well as lessons. Its worth a drive through
Wow! What a great venue to be.ppl very friendly and beautiful atmosphere
All the visitors I have spoken to say Oude Molen Eco Village offers amazing tranquility, a refuge and escape from the business of life and the city.It has tremendous potential, in terms of its location and the social and recreational activities being offered, to connect the city and outlying communities and contribute towards social cohesion and cross cultural interaction.
A rural environment in Cape Town, an ideal place in Cape Town to introduce children to love and appreciate activities taking place in rural areas to sustain urban life.
We visited the Eco Village on a outing with my 5 year old daughters school. I didnt have enough time to have a look at everything because we got stuck at the coffee shop with their amazing coffee, but were already planning to go back and to take my son horse riding.
Lovely place to take the kids! Shaded play area and enjoyable pony rides for the kids and adults
My kids and I loved our visit to Oude Molen Eco Village. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cape Town. Thanks for the great time that we definitely had.
It is an amazing place i took my daughter there last year to go for the horse riding and she loved it so much that I took her again, they also have a pool, a restaurant and a play area for the toddlers in my opinion this is an amazing place, I really enjoyed it😁
We bought some Richard Bosman bacon at the Millstone Farmstall recently – which turned out to be rotten. We emailed about this – no response. When we – very politely – raised it with the staff on a subsequent visit they were dismissive to the point of being rude. We wont be back. This shouldnt be taken as a reflection on other good businesses hosted within the Eco Village. The Play Shed is great, and our child loves it.
Enjoyed the day spent there. I went with my two kids and they loved playing around
