Much better than expected. Went to book a license test, arrived at 8am, third to last in the line. Whole process took about 1 hour. The staff were very efficient.

This department does not seem to care about anyone expect their time to go home. Please review your office hours, or hours of willingness to help. As I have come to the department 4 times in a row, each time taking early off from work (losing money) so that they can tell me they cannot help me as either the system is down, or they are on a lunch break not tending to anyone or they close an hour before or they decideto cut the queue when ever they feel overwhelmed.

Stand in a row... Long ours... But the team work and effort here is applaudable.Well done for assisting as humanly as possible. And well done for aiding the elderly people.Thank you

If youre renewing your license get here before 9 at the latest. They are super helpful, and if youre here in time they will do their best to make sure you get your license renewed.They only have one eye testing machine at the moment, so the whole process takes a long time. You will wait a long time, but they are friendly and helpful.Edit: Ive changed my mind find another traffic department for the time being. Its taken me 4 hours to renew my license (Im still in the line).

Very nice people available to help. They cut the queue very early so be there around 9am. They only have only one eye testing machine so things move very slowly.After being there more than 3 times, I understood why they cut the queue and why things move slowly. Its not their fault. Its a pity you have to wait for hours

Absolutely best service I have received at a Driver’s Licensing Centre in South Africa! Quick in and out, total of 1 hour and PDP license renewal submitted! Excellent Service!

(Visited on the 5th of August) Nothing the staff can do to make the process better but its clear the department of transport has absolutely no intention to fix issues and delays at existing centers. Only a single eye test machine working meant getting to the facility 20 minutes before they opened still resulted in a 4 hours and 15 minute queue (around 20 people before me) even though I had eye tests results from an optometrist (that still had to be captured at the single eye test machine). At 11AM they alreay have to start cutting the queue and ask some to come back another day as they will not be able to help new arrivals within the 4.5 hours left in the day. I find it extraordinary that anything technically operational can be ran this poorly and slowly especially in this day and age. I honestly dont know if alternative facilities in surrounding areas are better but I cannot imagine it even being theoretically possible to be any worse.

No organization, people allowed to jump the queue, total lack of interest from staff in this regard , when discussedwith staff told no one jumps the queue , people sent off from the queue to have eyes tested and then allowed back into the queue from where they were standing ,a taxi full!The line cut off at 11 in the morning, get there at 1,30 to be told the line is cut off , 5 people in the queue what do they do until 3 , 00 if I could 0 ,star would be given .I stood from 8,15 until 11,50 and moved 5 places due to pushing in ,mis management, lack of interest!!! 0 Stars

Absolutely no organization. At least 4 ladies doing Absolutely nothing. Went in to the eye test room . There was a huge heater on full turning the small foom into a furnace . 3 ladies siting at one desk eating no masks no social distancing . The lady who did the test was the rudest person ever . Worst experience ever was inline for 6 hours.

In these COVID times its nice not to have a packed, busy office to queue in. Staff were friendly and helpful, had all the forms and testing equipment etc. to renew a license. All good.Edit: Got SMS to collect license yesterday and went this morning. Queued for 5 minutes with 20 other people. Staff friendly and efficient, what a pleasure.

Been queuing almost 3 hrs now. Last week was off line. This week only one eye test machine working. Old people standing outside in cold for hours. No chairs offered . Really disappointed!

Went to renew my drivers license on 3 Feb 2021 and the process was fast and efficient, completed in less than an hour.Staff were very effective and covid protocols were being followed.Take your own pen for filling in the forms.

Very friendly and helpful staff.Only one eye testing machine and pay point which makes the process a bit longer than it needs to be.Compared to other traffic departments this one is by far the best one I’ve been to when it comes to SA standards.

Very efficient and well organize department - deserves better facillities as existing once are shamelessly poor!To apply for renewal took us 1.5 hour...and collection 5 minutes!

Why do you not increase your capacity? You are serving a huge catchment area, it is impossible to be effective and provide quick service if you only have one counter assisting. Staff are certainly helpful, but dont have the capacity to help the large numbers of people coming here.

In and out inside two hours for a licence renewal.There are card payment facilities available, both for licence payments, and at the mobile photo booth (its R50 for 4, you need one or two).One star lost specifically for the eye testing staff who seemed more interested in chatting and snacking than testing eyes (and for the dirty machines - but when I complained I was handed some disinfectant and paper towel). Everyone else was lovely and helpful.Another star lost for that frustrating closed second cashier desk.

Poor service, no process indicated, connections get helped first, staff not wearing masks and sitting on their phones - overall a slow, disappointing experience.

Must say.. Been here a few times.. never had a problem here. Staff are helpful and kind.. not like the average government institutions the we all know. I think people complaining has not dealt with “the real” useless institutions in SA. Well done to Abdul and his team ! Keep it up with what you have to work with given to you from the corrupt capitalist from the top.. and soon your star rating will improve too..

Station only opened at 8:30 despite the fact that all the information regarding the station states that it opens at 8:00. Arrived at 7:45 to renew my drivers license and was complete at 12:00

I queued for hours just to renew renew my drivers license. It seems like its like that everyday. Lots of potential for job creation!

Maybe I was lucky, but I had a pretty good experience today. All the staff were helpful and friendly. I went at about 10:30 am and was out in about an hour and a half. The line for the eye test did take a while, but once it was my turn I realised that its because most people dont understand how the machine works and it takes more time for the staff to explain it to them than the actual test takes. It took me less than 3min to complete the eye test, finger prints and photo process. The Manager, Mr Goosen was around to lend a hand to everyone who was confused and even helped me print documents that I didnt know I had to bring.The lack of stars is purely because the chairs are uncomfortable and eye testing machine that you have to put your head against seems a little gross.

Got to the testing centre at 13.50 to renew my Licence card. I was told that they are closed. Googled the operating hours and it said that they close only at 15.30. I understand that they must close a certain time to allow the inside people to be helped but to close before 2 o clock? More than an hour and a half before closing time? Disappointed.

Cant believe what I just experienced - a traffic department with only one pen between the entire office and everyone needing to fill out forms.Asking for pens got us short and rude responses and no help from the office staff. I needed to talk to three different people in the office to find a working pen, which then prevented the person from seemingly doing any work, so she sat at her desk and sulked. When I returned the form to her to process, she needed her pen back - which the other people in line were now using to fill out forms.The manager of the office was witness to all of this and did and said next to nothing. When I complained and he asked her, Wheres your pen?, she pointed at me and said ask him.I cant believe that the government employs overgrown children to work at their offices, doesnt give them the training (and lets not forget the equipment) to assist members of the public who pay their salaries.

I went to the Somerset Traffic department for my test, I did not come right so I needed to get another date, time was 14h00, I went inside I was told it is closed. I asked to speak to the manager Mr Goosen he told me they are closed, I asked him if I can wait maybe they might be done before 15h30 he told me I can wait if I want at 15h30 he wants me gone from that station.I reported this treatment and attached reviews that I have read here that the people at the station are rude. my complaint was not well attended to at all, see the attachment the response I got. it is sad that we as citizens we need to accept abuse and get used to it.

Very unhelpful and unorganised me and my wife were told to stand in the queue after standing for atleast 30 minutes some lady came and told is we must be in the eye testing queue and not the other one after she told my wife to stand in that specific queue

If you are coming to renew your licence, book leave and expect to wait 4 hours. Staff is friendly but they are hugely under staffed and there is only one eye testing machine operational.Arriving early makes no difference. Waiting time is 4 hours and theres no way around it.

Ironic how they are situated right next to the N2. 50 meters away where every morning taxis are driving in the yellow lane dangerously swerving back into traffic and forcing school children walking to school in the yellow lane off the road, jumping the red lights and using every right and left turn only lane to skip over the robots and force there way back into the straight only lanes.I drive by every morning and there is always at least 10 traffic officer cars parked here just idling around and doing nothing.The only time you ever see traffic officers do their job in this place is when its the December holiday season. Apart from that this place is a lawless crime infested hell hole to live in.

Sat 3 hours just for an eye test. And when I came to the counter to pay, had to give form to manager for some reason.

People were quite rude, they got upset for small things. It was my first time going to that traffic department and I won’t go back unless I have to. The eye test people were friendly tho
