I had my first visit in 2019. I had my second visit today. The staff are really courteous and friendly. They had the patience and grace to answer my questions and explain the procedures. The staff do know their stuff (pun intended 😂😂)I had some fillings done and two years later they are still intact. Their service is impeccable. I would 100% recommend them.

My 87 year old Mom was needing a new set of dentures. I was on a short visit from the USA, so we were both very dependent on a short turnaround time.Dr. Kalan amd his staff did everything possible to make this happen. I visited dr Kalan’s after breaking a tooth and scheduled a series of fillings around the same time. I was very nervous since the broken tooth was one of my front teeth and visible to others when i smile. Doctor did an amazing job and the colour of the filling matched my tooth exactly.!!The staff is very nice and it is easy to communicate with the office - even through whatsapp (=I am definitely very pleased.

As a student on medical aid, I would strongly advise not to go there. First, they will tell you that you need way more fillings than the one you actually went for, which is the maximum number of fillings covered by your medical aid. Then, they will fix it by giving you months of pain. When you keep on going there due to the pain they started post-filling, they act like youre bothering them and try to charge you off your medical aid. Long story short, I went for 1 filling, ended up with 8 fillings (max number covered by medical aid) and now I need supposedly a root canal (R5000+). Really unethical and unprofessional. Make sure you read the other reviews about how many more people got the same issue as me if you think thats a one time case. Something I wish I did.Edit in response to below comments: very professional how you attack the patients to save your own reputation. Something which you have been doing with all the other patients who have had similar issues with your practice. The point is regardless of the oral condition of the patients, when they come to you, its with the purpose that you will fix their issues. Contrary to what you people do which is to aggravate the situation and make it painfully worse to squeeze money out of the patients. I had no issue/pain with my teeth prior to coming to your practice, regardless of my oral hygiene. It all started after you lured me with your maximum number of fillings. Anyway, I will let the patterns speak for themselves as the previous reviews indicate Im not the only one. As for reaching out to me, do you think I will trust you again to let you put your hands in my mouth after what you have caused? I would rather go to more ethical people. And what kind of flawed argument is that by saying that I had ample opportunity not to come back? You messed up my mouth and it was on medical aid. Obviously, I would come back to you in hope of a fix instead of going to other dentists who will charge me for it. I cant be held liable for the pain you started. Which is why I came to you. That said, me coming to you 5 times means that you had 5 chances to fix what you did wrong. Reminder that I only posted that review after I went from 1 filling to a R5000+ root canal for issues caused after you started doing your fillings.

I for one really appreciate the doctors at dentist on main. I went there with a severe toothache that then resulted into swelling but The doctor worked his magic on and there I was fine and well. The team was truly helpful, looking at how I wasnt even financially stable, they did all their best to see me through this process.I would say, dentist on main is your dentist to go to in times of need.

Ive had excellent service from the first time I stepped in there and for all my subsequent visits this year. Very kind and friendly staff. I love the wall portraits in the consultation rooms, they set an ambient tone to an otherwise historically distressing visit to the dentist.

Dr Kalan absolutely went to extra mile with my teeth. From medical authorisation, to giving me the best prices, to making sure I dont leave his practice until all my teeth are in the best condition that they can be. Very impressed with the care and genuine concern offered to me by this practice.

The reception staff at this dentistry might be a little rough around the edges, but the dental work is excellent and the dentists themselves are caring and professional. Would definitely get five stars if the reception staff were more friendly.

I went a few months ago and I was very happy with my experience with everyone in the practice, however after thinking the problem was found and sorted with a filling I left only to still experience awful pain. I went back a week ago, was told I need to be given two more fillings and the pain is still there. Im down almost R 4000 from the two visits and still with the original problem.

Went here cause it was closer than my usual dentist. The front desk service was okay, no problems there. The dentist was super pushy on me getting multiple cavity fillings and told me may have to redo my root canal with a surgery. I went to my usual dentist who did a thorough x ray and told me that there were no multiple cavities, and that there was no infection present for my root canal, that it was just sensitive. Glad I didnt go back, and it seems that there are ingenuine positive reviews as they all seem to be written by the same party. The medical advice given here is not objective and driven by $$$.

I would like to commend Dr Kalan and the team for the responsive and excellent service when I had to arrange an unexpected tooth filling. Its never a good feeling having to attend to a dentist visit while on holiday however despite the circumstances Kalans team were polite and made me feel at ease .

I am convinced that he was intentionally over aggressive with my filling so I now need a root canal. This tooth had zero pain before. I went for a cleaning and was convinced by the dentist that one of my teeth needed a filling. It was a small thing so I trusted him and agreed. Now the whole half of my face aches. I cant chew on that side. I am told i need a root canal. My medical aid doesnt cover that and I do not have the 4k that it costs. I wish I had been warned of the risk before hand. I would have left the tooth alone

A NO-NONSENSE DENTISTI visited a dentist in the USA during my stay there. The dentist there did a few fillings for me but was exceptionally expensive. Although the rest of the teeth that needed fillings were pointed out to me I waited a year until my return to Cape Town to have the rest of my fillings done. A friend recommended Dr Kalan to me. Dr Kalan pointed out all the problems in my mouth and took all the necessary radiographs to confirm what he had seen in my mouth. Dr Kalan fixed all my teeth at a fraction of the cost. I have gone back to him a few times for my six-monthly check-ups and cleaning.Dr Kalan is a very meticulous dentist who is at the same time very patient and compassionate. All the staff at the practice are very friendly and work as a team in perfect harmony.I would strongly recommend Dentist-on-Main for all your dental needs. But be warned: Heed the advice of the Oral Hygienist to brush and floss daily after the first visit because the dentist might not see you if you insist on maintaining poor oral care. I met a student in the waiting room who came back with dirty teeth, was refused fillings, went to another dentist for fillings, but decided to come back to Dentist-on-Main when she realised that the standard of care was not the same.

What an exceptional and pain-free experience!I visited Dentist-on-Main on recommendation of a colleague at work. I have had ongoing pain on the right side of my face for more than a year. I visited a number of dentists who could not find where the pain came from. The one dentist even said it was all in my mind. Dr Kalan identified the problem within a few minutes. A radiograph further confirmed his diagnosis. I walked out there with my mouth very numb but have been pain-free since that visit. Dr Kalan pointed out a few other problems that I was never told about previously. I will be going back soon for a complete cleaning of my gums and teeth. Hopefully I will be able to get my other teeth fixed as soon as my work commitment allows me to.The people at the front desk were friendly and very competent. I did not have an appointment but was prepared to wait. The young lady kindly asked Dr Kalan to fit me into the very busy morning schedule. I probably contributed to him running late with his other patients but he and the dental team remained focused. I have yet to visit this dentist office. It is very close to where I live so I was thinking about it. I can not attest to the office staff or how successful/unsuccessful the treatments are. However, upon viewing the reviews and noticing the condescending tone in which the owner responds to negative comments, I cant help but think this may not be the best place to go. It is very important to me to not only visit a place that does good work, but prides itself on both its customer service and professionalism. Due to the nature of my response, I am aware that I also may receive such a comment as to disregard what I was saying. If the owner is reading this, I just wish to say that instead of attacking your clients or responding to their concerns with hostility, perhaps it would be more beneficial to both the customer and to your business, to ask what they feel you could have done better and brainstorm ways to rectify the issue (especially if the problem seems to be a recurring theme). However I also understand that as an owner, it is completely up to you how you want to conduct your business, so best of luck to you and your future endeavors.

Wow, I love this Dentist! I first went to Dr. Kalan last year for a cleaning. Ive since done another cleaning and all my fillings. I had cavities the size of a canyon and Dr. Kalan restored my mouth. I am so grateful. Ive sung his praises to my gym buddies, friends at the Vida next door, my partner in the U.S. and everyone who comments on my smile. He is a gentle Dentist, careful, precise, and deliberate about getting you restored. He centers care and health. I recommend Dr. Kalan without hesitation. Cape Townians, this is a dentist who will have you smiling with your mouth open wide!!!!

Dont be fooled by the budget-friendly appearance. Its better to spend a little more somewhere else, youll end up paying less. I was quoted for a lot of fillings which another dentist suggested that I dont really need just yet. They took some shoddy X-rays, which probably didnt help the diagnosis. The other dentist had to retake X-rays (and I could understand why when I saw them). If I had remained with Dentist on Main, I would have ended up paying more than double what I am now (cheaper per filling, but 4 additional fillings).I had to wait 30mins for my appointment - I can understand thats not entirely in their hands. The dentist was friendly.

Inefficient and unapologetic. They were 40 minutes late for my appointment and it did not seem abnormal to them. Not a single word of apology or update as I sat there for 40 minutes past my scheduled appointment. The blame falls on my shoulders for being disoriented and confused - before being told I do not know how to conduct myself in a post 1994 South Africa. Since last writing my review I went back to my previous dentist (who is slightly further away) and he advised me that the fillings reccomended by Dentist on Main were not necessary! He confirmed this with xrays. It seems Dentist on Main just wanted to make a quick buck.I wish there was an option to respond to their response to my review as it is quite laughable! Also...how can you not have a record of your patients?! I see they have commented on several peoples reviews (mine included) to say they have no record of them ever visiting the dental practice...very convenient.
