Please be very careful when dealing with this company. We rented a camper van and fully complied with the refund clause. Since requesting the refund on 16 March, which should have taken 10 days, no refund has been processed. We have on numerous occasions tried contacting Odette Malan, the general manager, but emails are not responded to and calls not ansewered. On the one occasion we managed to talk to her, she confirmed refund will be paid, but since then no action has taken place and emails and calls are not being answered.

We recently rented a Conquest Trailer from Base Camp Rentals for a vacation in Namibia, but our whole vacation was almost ruined because of the companys administrative negligence. Odette and Rinaldu are very friendly and they take the time to show you the trailers. However, when it comes to important requirements, the company needs to get its priorities straight. We only received the registration papers about 30 minutes before the trip by email. So we had to rush and print everything out before we left. We then drove all day to the Namibian border only to find out that the trailers registration papers had expired! After long deliberation, the border officials allowed us to cross the border mainly because they saw that the Conquest was a rental and our car was properly registered. But it was a very close call. On the way back from Namibia, the expired registration was again an issue. Luckily, we were allowed in and no ticket was issued. We reported this to Odette after we returned. She apologized and promised to refund one nights rental as compensation for all the trouble. After waiting more than two weeks and writing several emails, we finally got our deposit back but without any compensation. So, if you are considering renting from Base Camp, make sure you view the registration papers several days before you leave for your trip, make sure they charge you per night and not by day, and insist on having a clean, working fridge.
