My experience with checkers in Sun Valley Mall was off to a rocky start. I sent my husband to purchase a few items and when he got home we noticed that the melrose cheese spread we bought was expired. Needless to say i wasnt impressed at all. I contacted to store as my husband would only be able to go back 2 weeks later. I spoke to the store manager by the name of Wayne who wanted absolutely nothing to do with my query as he was going on leave but he mentioned that his stand in is a gentleman by the name of Gary, so that he would know whats happening when we would go back after 2 weeks. When my husband went back to return the item Gary knew absolutely nothing about the melrose..... But what i can say he went above and beyond in sorting out my issue. He replaced the items and also Expressed his apologies for the inconvenience and i appreciate this because when you work in the public sector especially retail your days can be very challenging but Gary i thank you for your exceptional customer service and friendliness. Well done checkers Sun Valley well done!!! 👏👏

Shopping and coffee. So yesterday while shopping at checkers we walked passed the deli and small coffee shop. Seeing it we wanted to get take away coffee. First waiting 15 mins for some one to help us. The places was empty and not a soul was seen. Then ordering a simple coffee the woman looked at us like we where ordering a bomb. The next thing was there only had one size of take away cup. After looking for meduim cups for 10 mins. She made the coffee and yet again 12 minutes just to look for lits. The sugar stations was dirty, empty parties and loose sugar every where, was not cleaned in a very long time. Very disappointed 😞

While its a well-stocked supermarket, unfortunately what its not stocked well with are (a) enough active checkouts (theyve a huge amount of tills) or (b) clever enough management to work out when more tills should be opened. I finally lost it today (16/03/21) when I stood in the express queue of about ten people and one till open, while at the money desk there were no customers but two tellers who wouldnt help me.I reckon Checkers Sun Valley are the new champions for slow till service, and I certainly would recommend shoppers to rather go to their rival in Noordhoek where they might not have such a good range of stuff, but at least they know how to get you out of the shop to enjoy your purchases without losing the will to live standing in a queue.

Read-made food at their Cafe is always good & delicious. However Gerhardus, is especially welcoming & his service is always good. Highly recommended.

Great specials available throughout the month, always have enough stock in store. Security always visible and parking is quite secure. Always get offered for the trolley to be pushed to my car

Product prices are incorrectly advertised. When you reconise it at the teller, you have to go to a service point for refund. There you have to wait 30 minutes, which doesnt make sense. Then even, their made a mistake, you have to fill out a form. On top of all, they forgot to give us the wrongly advertised product back after the refund. Therefore we needed to go in again. We never ever go back to Checkers. There are much better supermarks around.

Has a cafe to sit down and eat. Nice

Veggie section leaves much to be desired. Still a favorite place to go but they could rotate stock better and actually put prices on their items. The Manager is also a little grumpy. He always seems to be running away for a smoke when someone has a problem lol.

Always plenty of space and good layout.

Besides from the very slow uninformed ladies walking aimlessly around, Checkers is great you can find most things at a decent price.

Very clean and tidy store. Stocking all household items and more. Friendly personal and willing to assist.

The size and variety at the store is vegetarian, however the staff and managers are not interested in offering decent service levels. Sad.

There is a complete disregard for covid protocol here. Some of the staff and especially shoppers walk around with masks not covering their whole face, and sometims a mask entirely off. Social distancing is not adhered to in the isles and when it gets busy shoppers walk through the pay point queues, pushing through lines. Security and management have done nothing but enforce mask wearing upon entry, after that its free rein. Management should be held accountable for their laxed approach.

Really, really great selection, and never overcrowded. Vegan cheese sold here.

Wow! This Checkers is huge and has a variety of items. From food to camping gear to gifts. What I like the most about this Checkers, is the Parents with tots priority till.

This is my favourite retail store in the whole of Cape Town..! The place is huge so stocks everything you could possibly need but the store is so well designed that you dont have to walk forever to get from one side to the other. I also have never had to wait longer than 3-5 minutes to check out because there are so many operational till points. The quality of the food from the deli is top class and the specials they have often are the best prices! Love this place..!

Checkers have created a gem with this store. Modern and light with a huge range of products.Im particularly impressed with their vegan range, which is increased and improved upon on a regular basis.They boast a huge variety of cheeses and their bakery is excellent. I consider this store to be the best supermarket in the south peninsula, winning hands down. Well done, Checkers

Most convenient shopping experience and their fresh produce is amazing

Great selection of cheese and fresh baked goods! Just beware of the fruit and veg, they are not good all the time so you have to look very carefully!! Otherwise everything is great! Trolleys are a little dirty and not a great mark for cleanliness on my list! But there is a huge selection of items from toys to camping and electronics such as phones, earphones and even drones!

Lovely spacious isles, great variety of food and other items like camping, toys, games, techno, personal goods, wine, household items, etc with excellent prices. The management and staff are very friendly, helpful and always try to go the extra mile. Great store all round! Lots of parking and very nice other shops in the Sun Valley Mall, Noordhoek!!

Nice store but they advertise promotions on the shelves then charge full price at the till. This has happened nearly every time i have shopped there. On one occasion the lady went to verify the advertised price on theshelf and in front my own eyes she simply crumpled the price tag up and claimed it was never there. So a very nice store but CHECK YOUR TILL SLIPS and demand a refund when they overcharge.

Not a pleasant shopping experience. Staff are helpful, but shelves are incorrectly marked or not marked at all, leaves shopper frustrated or just wanting to walkout. The merchandise selection is good and affordably priced, but it needs to be marked and correctly marked. Would love to shop here more often but it always leaves me frustrated. Parking is ample and security guards are present and helpful.

I find that the shop is messy, in disarray and staff are surly and unhelpful. The clothes are often untagged, and you have to run around begging for a price from an inconvenienced staff member. I try to avoid this shop

When you first walk into this checkers it feels like it is well stocked however there cold meat selection was poor and di not look fresh. When we needed help at the fresh salad bar there was no one to help. The staff seemed disinterested. The meat section did not have the usual display of quality steaks like other checker I have visited. There was also no Coke Zero the day I was there. The fresh vegetables werent so fresh either. Rather go to Pick n Pay across the road.

Hit and miss shopping here. Have had pleasant interactions with staff in the past. However, today products were marked with incorrect prices underneath. Staff refused to acknowledge this and were rude in general. I ended up leaving the items as we were holding up the line. I see Im not the first person to experience this.

We in lockdown. Went and did a shop for the week. The staff were standing in the isle, close together and when I tried to pass and said excuse me they just looked at me, no apology for blocking the way and never moved! In fact there were a lot of staff in the aisles. Why do they need all the staff when we are suppose to be at least a meter and half away from each other! Maybe bad management??

Nice clean and fresh shop. Good specials. Some till ladies not always friendly though. Love the coffee shop inside Checkers. Always happy with our food and service. Gerhard always friendly and on the ball.

Love the store but the staff are so not interested. They have no idea how to pack shopping bags. Everything just gets chucked in to a bag until the bag is full enough. They need to be trained to be more considerate when packing.

As Checkers go this is a good one. Good food selection with its own butcher and bakery, fairly decent outside section and most of the household stuff you need on a regular basis. The queues are generally short and the staff efficient and helpful.

I dont normally shop here, but it had been my grocer of choice recently, specifically due to the Checkers Little Garden special that they are currently running. Instead of a useless trinket for shopping there, they are giving a little all in one, grow your own seedling - so great for the kids!!Besides that they do have a massive range of items including a home wear and a camping /outdoors section!!Lovely

The express queue is always moving very slow.

Found some things I needed at reasonable prices, but some items seem very expensive. But I want to say, the worst sound system Ive ever heard, with constant loud interruptions with adverts. One day they were even playing different music from different speakers (clashing rhythm and melody)! If youre at all musical, this is like dragging nails on a blackboard. Suggest they get a better selection of Christmas music (some songs are downright depressing) and way fewer adverts. A more pleasant shopping experience for customers can only lead to greater profits.

Very clean and new with an excellent spread of all kinds of stock... Very good wine selection. It is well laid out and this permits a quick park, in and out in a few mins. The staff are as new as the supermarket and the do need to learn how to smile and need to be taught some people interaction skills beyond the grunts that most put out.

Watch out for incorrect prices.

Best thing thats happened in the Valley for a long time.Neat, clean and usually well stocked.Dont like some butchery staff not wearing gloves when dealing with meat. (Twice)

Not happy with my openveiw decoder that was meant to include installation. After 80 minutes driving and 56 kilometers and a call center that did not have clear answers. Pretty cheesed that I must their deep south lab rat. Other than that I like the store and friendly staff

Not a place for a quick dash in and shop. Spread over a large area this hypermarket office most things you could want or need. Its pretty deceptive with its pricing, so be aware that not everything here Will be cheaper than elsewhere. It offers good specials after 4 p.m. so on the way home from work stop off to check out good value food items.

Nice ambiance - clean and well laid out. Not quite as big as most Checkers Hypers though so some things you need might not be in stock. Used to be a very tatty Pick and Pay here so this refurbished mall is a vast improvement and there is a nice variety of small shops outside Checkers in the mall. But for big names/chains you need to go opposite to Longbeach Mall.

Great centre to shop in. Checkers best supermarket in the area by far. Good stock selection, mid price range and the fresh fruit and vegetable section is virtually on par with Woolworths. The best for me though is that the shop is never as crowded as its competitors stores are.

Wonderful shop. Neat and clean and nicely spread out. Your Westville Pavilion branch could learn a few things from this store

Staff has the worst attitude. They are very unfriendly and not helpful. It makes for a very unpleasant shopping experience. Otherwise nice shop.

Do 80% of my shopping at Checkers and enjoy it. My only complaint is that there are many many of us height challenged shoppers who cannot reach your top shelves! Is it not possible to have a step available in each lane so that we dont have to be for ever asking a taller person to help us!It is inevitable that whatever we are looking for seems to always be on the top shelf! Again today Checkers have a full page advert in the Cape times and Burger of a special pork ribs atR59 so I go at 12pm found all ribs at R68 ask butcher had to show him the newspaper advert so he reweighs mine at R59 and leaves all the other ribs in the fridge at R68 a kilo.3 for R 100 kingklip lemon and parsley advertised above the kingklip but at the till it shows R49 each I had to go fetch the advert paper to prove so the Manager says that was last week prices ..anyway he did change it.Shoppers check the till to see if you are really saving as i shop there at least 3 days a week and often find till price doesnt say the same as the paper says.

This is a lovely Checkers. We had been to N1 city as well as Parow Mall to try do Christmas shopping but the shops were insanely busy. We went to Sun Valley shopping centre 1.5 hours later and it was lovely to not have to wait too long.Thanks

Such a big and clean shop,you will have the best time shopping there. The isles have enough space which makes shopping easy, And you dont bump into other customers trolleys.

Great hyper market. They have everything you might need do to anything. Even a great restaurant in the supermarket.

The Deli was disappointing. Second time shopping in this great place and they sell you processed meat that they claim is fresh only to be disappointed that the meat was off. We couldnt eat it even though we asked the woman who served us if it was fresh. Avoid the Deli section by all means!

I was at garden shop near hyper. 20m hose 450/-. Nipped in hyper market, generic equivalent with all the connectors for 130/-Also got Alpen original cereal for 10/- less a packet. Good saving.

Meh. Its alright, has a nice variety. Friendlyish staff. Alright for long life products, but find Id rather spend the little bit extra and get food that isnt going to expire in the next week/month

My favourite shopping mall in the deep south. Wide aisles and well stocked shelves with a wide variety of products.

Third sad experience in less than two months.Prices of items on shelves do not match till.Staff most unhelpfull and nevermind in attitude.Managers attitude stinks.Rude .Shall try to avoid Checkers in future.

The staff is the most miserable people ever!! They don.t ever greet and is most unhelpful!! They speak in Xhosa and does not ever aknowledge the customer but ignore during scanning the goods. Serious staff training i feel needs to be given as many of my friends complain about the same thing. There is always a awful smell at the butchery side that turns my stomach therefore i will never buy meat there. Also the prices on the shelf is always incorrect at what it scans at the tills. I have complained but the blame gets passed on. I.m very unhappy overall and would only shop there we 100% necessary.

The Checkers Hyper is convenient and very pleasurable shopping experience. I have been really impressed the range and quality of the meat in the butchery department.

So many products without prices !!!....no shortage of staff around ...so dont understand what their problem is.Re recent promotion...higher prices were charged at the till, than were advertised at...very frustrating. In fact I returned those goods for a full credit.In future I will unfortunately have to double check prices charged vs prices advertised .

My husband and I had lunch at the Coffe shop today and we waited a while to be assisted as there wasnt anyone at the food counter. The service just needs to be a bit more enthusiastic but the food was delicious

The stores sort of reimagined the pay points in an attempt to get you to buy more snacks, luxuries, toys and pretty much anything your kid might guilt trip you into buying while you wait to pay. Its ingenious really. Terribly predaceous and exploitive but hey, thats capitalism right?

One or two unfriendly staff members but the rest are helpful and wonderfully friendly. Wont give out the best trademark otherwise I might just jinx it. Well stocked and loads of specials.

The ladies on the till seam to be on a go slow strike. First examine the item then scan it then carefully hand the item to the packer. Painful, like watching paint dry. The people behind me all left and went to another till. No more Checkers for me. Not the first time it happened.

Not a bad shop. A variety of shops in the mall ie Pharmacy, Pet shop, Pies, dried fruit and biltong shops .. bottle store. Some eateries and pizza shops as well. No parking for motorcycles. Situated ideally for shoppers coming over the mountain over Ou Kaapse Weg and for Komnetjie, Noordhoek and Sun Valley residents. Pick and Pay shopping centre with more shops across the drag.

I find the shop assistants at this store not very helpful. I have bought toys on various occasions and there has never been a price on the item I have purchased. To find a person to help you is rather difficult. I dont enjoy shopping at this store.... in fact I hardly ever go there!!

A great shopping experience at this checkers they always have a good amount of stock and very friendly staff. I most of all love there R20 burger or boerewors roll with a Pepsi deal on the weekends it just makes the shopping a hell of alot more bearable they are in a fantastic location not to busy and extremely easy to find what you need would definitely recommend trying a shop here you wont be disappointed!

Very well stocked supermarket, it have a deli inside with tables to eat the food that can be purchased by weight or from the menu. Wine is sold by the glass.

Excellent shop with a large selection. Affordable and tasty lunches can be eaten right there.

So I buy the Woodys Bacon, exp date 22 December 2017. Get home to find that the bacon is off after cooking it for part of dinner. Phone your number at 18h20 and a lady answers, I tell her that Im out of airtime could she please phone back as Ive bought food and its off she says yes and doesnt phone me back. I also purchased R55 airtime which also doesnt work and when phoning Vodacom they tell me I need to come back to Checkers. Such lovely service. I tried phoning back a couple of time and yes I am aware that you close at 18h00, then why answer your phone at 18h20, I have this all on record. Since you are not polite enough to return the call or answer your phone 2min later I am putting this on social media as I do have all the proof. Im very disgusted with the service as I have only supported Checkers since you have opened as I do not like lots of people. I would appreciate some correspondence from Management and would like to know who took my call and didnt even bother to return it.

A great place to shop and the only place I’ll go if I can help it. Friendly staff, hardly ever busy and clean and modern store. Bonus if you’re an FNB customer and have an EBucks account.

Effecient service, and a nice and clean shop. Just wished they stocked some type of basic medical Isle seeing I was in need of nausea medication :(

Checkers Hypers are always good, but this one was especially great. EXCELLENT selection of all sorts of products and very clean/organised. Good selection of you die-cast cars. Also has an RVM (reverse vending machine) where you can recycle bottles and tins.

Service at salad station, fish station needs to be attended to. Lady at cold meat station is awesome, friendly. Some of the cashiers need customer service training as they have faces hanging and look like they dont want to really be there. Liquor store staff need to be more professional. Seems they think they neef to have private conversations instead of attending to customers. Store is clean except for the stench in the diy section. Constant smell of garbage, mixed with old oil, not pleasant at all.

Good large selection. You are going to find everything you are looking for in one place.

I can only go after work at around 6pm and each time there doesnt seem to be much stock on the shelves, poor planning? It has happened on more than one occasion, the items being Faircape milk, Coca cola zero, monster rehab and a couple of other items, went back the next day and there was still no stock. Also long queues and quite a wait at the tills, only 4 tills open and the rest were closed. Also had broken eggs on two separate occasions and exotic mushrooms that were completely rotten, oh yes also had ostrich meat that was also past its sell by date and not edible but I didnt notice that it was past its sell by date when I picked it up off the shelf.

Most of the items were not priced and asking someone for a price was like asking them to do something out of the ordinary....so little enthusiasm except gir a lady who was on tea and wenfboutbof her way in her white jacket to scan my item.....even the Manager, Fazlin, is still sending someone to assist and I am back home in the Southern suburbs again. Was one of my favourite stores🤔
