Always thought having a drink outside checkers was kinda suspect, but then I discovered the R26 black label quarts and changed my mind 💞

Absolutely shocked and disgusted to my core by an incident that occurred tonight. One of Mixas regulars (a man with dark hair and a German accent) literally beat up a homeless man in front of the bar/ restaurant. The waiting staff had to intervene. According to Mixas staff members this German/Austrian/Swiss man has caused trouble before but the owner has failed to ban him from the pub. The manager went to speak to the man sitting at one of the tables outside. Nevertheless, I was disgusted to see that the manager had allowed the man to continue sitting smugly smoking and chatting with his buddy outside. I mean this guy had literally just beaten up a mentally-ill homeless person and he was allowed to continue drinking his beer and chat like nothing happened. One patron called the police. He taunted her in the process. Cheers to the waiting staff and patrons who intervened, thumbs down to the management that continue to humor an expat which abuses marginalised people.

Love going here for after work drinks or Saturday afternoon pizza and beer. Its like the sitcom Cheers, a place where everyone knows your name. The staff are friendly and will make you feel right at home and the food is great too. The portion sizes are also great. Love this place.

This bar is a peculiar mix of out of the way drinking hole in a very public and convenient space. Although it is on the high street, it has the charm and air of a backwater local watering hole. There seems to be a crowd of regulars who are to be seen at the end of the day, but if i need to meet a friend for a chat, it always seems to be open and available. What i like most about it, is that there is no attempt at any sort of recognizable decorative styling like most other bars around town. It seems to exist by virtue of the position it occupies and because it simply is, there can be no pressure to behave or pretend in any manner. Good for the soul, it is simply comfortable. One can sit inside or outside in a lovely bit of a garden and i see people eating meals here although i have only ever eaten fried chips. They were good. I like this place a lot, but i do wish they would stock some IPA or Amber ales. I detest SAB products, to me, they simply have no flavour. This is obviously a personal opinion and it doesnt detract from the fact that i constantly see people having a great time here. Not least myself.

Chilled vibe. Good spot to stop off on your way somewhere. Average food. It wont blow you away but you wont hate it. Very neutral place.

We came for a bite to eat, ended up staying longer because of the vibe. It is a nice cozy pub with good food and cold beer. The Springbok stew was new to me and very nice

This was my local once upon a time. A happy hour from 5pm to 7pm on already moderately priced drinks. Friendly staff and clean toilets which are always a plus at a happy hour venue. The outside seating is excellent in wonderful weather and terrible in any sort of strongish wind or rain. The food is interesting. A varied menu with over large pizzas, a lasagna that is cheese with meat and maybe two sheets of pasta, excellent chilli on the side and frankly terrible breakfast options though they are extremely cheap. Worth a visit if you live in area, not so much if you visiting area

Good specials when they have them. Average prices with big portions. Banana milkshake with REAL bananas. Nice outside seating.

Stopped in for a late night snack, however the kitchen was closed up tight at 23:00.Ordered a cold draft and enjoyed a conversation with a few locals enjoying their night at the bar.Sadly I didnt have time to check them out for lunch or dinner. They have plenty of indoor seats and also have a patio with quite a few seats under a large shade tree. The bar staff was friendly, quick and for a Saturday night even had a smile on.

Great waiting staff,very friendly and polite. Sadly,the food doesn’t match the ambience. Ordered a falafel SCHWARMA and the falafels were dry and chewy. The tzatziki was from a package and it was off. The only that was good from my plate was the fries and salad. Burgers are below average and one can make such a burger from home. It’s a pity

GREAT portions and price! Music was maybe a bit loud above our table, but otherwise liked it a lot. Dont expect anything too fancy, but its a cool unpretentious vibe.

Cheap beer (cheaper during happy hour), the benches and tables in the shaded garden area up front is the best place to sit. Chips are great, pizzas are OK, ask the waiter what is good with regards to food. They have cattle hide patterned booth seating inside that they must have bought from an old Spur.

Home away from home. The Brosch is a must-eat experience and the only place in the city you will find it.

You really cant review Mixas. The food is good, the drinks are priced well but the real reason anyone goes there is to have a raucous good time with their friends. If you have friends at Mixas you gotta be at Mixas.

Look, dont be mislead by the term: restaurant, rather visit here expecting a pub, ok? This is more like your local watering hole with cheap, cheap booze and a good bar-food selection. Free wifi and a pretty big outdoor seating section make this worth 4 stars (but only in the bar / pub category definitely not in the restaurant category!) Dog friendly.

Tasty lasagne special and the other meals are the biggest portions I have seen anywhere.
