Being a part of Ben’s family has provided me a wonderful opportunity to stay the night free of charge. Great bed. Ben cooked the best scrambled eggs and bacon toast I’ve ever had. Lemon tree was thriving and naturally cultivated garden made for a refreshing study spot during the Cape winter months !!!
11/11 the best digs I have visited. The decor and atmosphere created gave me a great sense of the history making for a very memorable experience. Additionally I was blown away by the self service cuisine.
Bens Digs is the type of place that everyone should visit at least 3.14 times in their lifetime. Adjacent to the mighty Liesbeek River it provides natural beauty that perfectly contrasts its amazing architectural features. The Digs itself is said to have been commissioned and designed by Antonio Gaudi during his university days. It is a place where all of the lads are welcome. 10/10 would be back again.
World class hospitality is a given at this central location. One always feels very welcome and at home and, upon leaving, fuller, happier and more alive.
This place has it all- hammocks, tracks, herbs, veggies, lemons... you name it! It also has quite the nostalgic feeling about it; almost as if I once called it home or something. Very cozy and intimate spot too (one doesn’t even need to leave one’s room to be involved in a convo happening outside ;)). Special shoutout to Mr Stevens for the world class banter & hospitality (and to Lizzy for keeping this lot in check as required).
Such a wonderful experience bringing the family to Bens Digs. With such a welcoming atmosphere and gracious staff. Certainly one to put on the bucket list.
Great atmosphere and awesome location with friendly residents. Would definitely recommend
Had a wonderful stay. Next time I will bring the whole family
What a place! good vibes, captivating stories, and heaps of stoke. Worth the stay.
Easily the best digs in Cape Town. 10/10 would recommend.
Founded in who-knows-what-year, this national heritage site has been the home of a number of reputable tenants over the years. Both myth and legend tell of how the digs housed Nelson Mandela in his days out of prison; Matthew Field during the early recording days of ‘The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg’; and Jono Stevens in the twilight years of his property studies degree. Many a memory has been crafted within the hallowed walls of the digs. Many a scholar has trod the long, arduous path along the Liesbeek River in order to reach the renowned black – although not always black – sliding gate. All in all, this residence has provided as a home – a safe haven of sorts – for the bois (and those who identify as ‘the bois’) throughout generations. More of the same please, chaps?
