Great little spot in Houtbay with awesome asian dishes, the decor is very nice especially the back garden. We had the bao’s - they were great (just a little bit on the smallish side) . Awesome vibe.

Some of the best ramen bowls I have ever had. The space isnt too big but the food and drink is worth the visit. I love the attempt at creating a Asian street food environment and I like what the restaurant/bar area looks like.

I stumbled on this undiscovered gem right in our neighboorhood. Everything was just so yummy. The waitress did an ok job, could have been better. However, the food more than made up for it. This was one of the best mouth-watering burgers Ive had grace my taste buds in a long time. After my meal, I was knocked into a food coma. I would eat here every day if I could afford it!

A very modern pub style Cafe to enjoy Asian street food. Very delicious bao. I had the duck bao and hubby had the pork in black fried rice. Delicious but a bit on the salty side for us. Would love to try their other interesting dishes.

The Wakame side dish was refreshingly tasty combining the sourness of the pickled seaweed and rice wine vinegar with the sweet sesame oil and sesame seeds and the hint of soy and yakaniku. The Ba Mee fried black rice toned down the saltiness of the double fried pork belly, which was a bit too salty for my taste. My wife ordered the Bird Bao - sticky pulled duck with Fuji apple jam in a teriyaki sauce. Also a bit too salty for her tastesOur waiter was friendly and attentive. We will be back to try their ramen.

Cosy and relaxed atmosphere, with a small but versatile menu. Only seats 8 inside at the bar and a small table outside. The bao, ramen fried chicken and lucky dog are all excellent! Get a bunch of things and share with friends, so you can try as much as possible. Friendly staff, fantastic wine menu and very reasonably priced.

Lucky Bao is part of Cheynes in Hout Bay, in fact its the same kitchen and you can order the same food in both restaurants although the have deferent menus and atmospheres. Lucky Bao being the more informal bar style restaurant. Personally I thought the ramen was far better than the baos... but then Lucky Ramen would not be as cooler name ;)

We had been wanting to try this place for 2 months and finally got a gap with a sitter for date night. We arrived and was greeted well and loved the mood and set up. We sat in the outside part of Cheynes and the mood was wonderful. We ordered 2 cocktails, 1 Waygu Burger, 1 Prawn Satay noodle dish and a Pork Belly Bao Bun. Unfortunealty, we were extremely disappointed in the food! The Waygu burger was cooked to death and also had the taste of sourness, the kind when red meat has been sitting out the fridge or in blood for too long, we were even further disappointed with the prawn noodle dish. The prawns were in fact pre cooked, frozen shrimp meat. It was not fresh at all and not the quality of ingredients i would expect from this establishment. We did not even finish the dish. We did really enjoy the pork belly bao bun and the cocktails. My bill was R513.00 and the quality of food did not match this bill. We were so bleek we just paid and ducked, i didnt even want to talk to a manager. It will take a lot of convincing to go back. I have heard good things about this chain of restaurants but my experience was very unsatisfactory.

I would highly recommend ordering takeaways from Lucky Bao because the food is to die for but I would strongly recommend against dining at the restaurant because the service is horrendous.Ive seen mixed reviews online about the service so why do only some people receive good service? This makes me sad.

This place is truly a hidden gem! Unassuming from the outside, you walk in and there are 8 stools around the bar surrounding the small kitchen. All back decor with exposed filament lightbulbs. The menu is diverse and delicious! Asian style tapas, but very generous portions. Amazing, friendly service. I’d suggest trying the pork belly bao.

Very disappointing experience. Our takeaway order took very long and the service at the restaurant while we waited was sub par. The bao was good but the ramen was far too salty and there was no chilli or seaweed to add to the flavour. Id suggest Downtown Ramen for a proper, delicious ramen.

Funny to see the gao bao trend also reached SA. We went for the soft shell bao which was nice and two times the “pho” soup, vegan and the 12h beef broth. The vegan version was overly salt which was not good. The pho 12h broth beef description on the menu gave me the impression that it would be a traditional Vietnamese broth, which was definitely not the case. I highly doubt the broth was cooked for 12 hours. Also this one was overly salt and also very greasy, the sirloin was a nice touch though.Bao concept is great, although it’s getting more mainstream globally. Execution, at least for the soups is very poor! Staff is friendly but rather slow.

As I am a huge fan of Cheynes(the chef) other restaurant(Cheynes) I had lofty expectations for this. They smashed them. In the best way possible. Having only recently, as in a year or so, acquired the taste for ramen I can safely say it is the best pork belly ramen I have ever eaten. PLUS they have the same peanut butter milkshake dessert, which is part of the reason I get it off bed every day! The venue is tiny but I think it only adds to the absolute charm of the place. Yum Town.
