An absolute gem!! Tranquility in the midst of the Hantam.And the tastiest lamb chops I have possibly ever eaten.

Handvol Gruis Guest House is one, if not the most amazing over night accommodation I have had the pleasure to visit. A gracious old farm house with Agga stove and indoor braai makes for a cozy and warm stay during cold winter nights. The quietness of the area gives way only when the hosts grace you with their presence. And what a presence it is. These are the most humble yet helpful people I have ever met.

Beautifully renovated old farmhouse with modern touches, very well equipped. A lekker long braai stoep and green grass lawn.Location is perhaps a bit out of the way, but thats the idea. Beautiful scenery, well worth it.

I wish we could have stayed longer. Handvol Gruis (named after a quote in a poem by famous Afrikaans poet, C. Louis Leopoldt) has WiFi for the teenagers, a beautiful location nestled in the mountains, lots of sky and fresh air, a tastefully decorated farmhouse with ample proportions and a stoep well designed to keep you cool on hot days. The hosts are also warm and hospitable. The road to the farm is good so the 22km drive on the dust is not a bother. Despite the remote location and the drought it was worth the effort. We hope to be back again one day.

Our second stay at this little gem! The house is comfortable and gives you that great farm feeling. It is big enough for two families and two dogs! We were blessed with snow all around the house, farm and mountains on the first morning we woke up. The AGA kept us warm after we built a snowman on the front lawn! Love this place, wonderful hosts! We might just make this our regular winter break away destination.

A authentic farm stay with spectacular stars and a deafening silence that makes you feel safe at night. Braai some of the locally produced lamb chops on the indoor braai and you are in heaven.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Enjoying the fresh air and the freedom from the outside world. nothing goes on here but peace and quiet. No signal, no problem! There is Wi-Fi if you really need it.

This was one of the most incredible places my family and i have stayed along our travels.its one of those times only experiencing can explain it.Awsome our kids were in heaven from the slide and play area , to the Lego that was thoughtfully put in there room.The horses that the boys woke to this morning were there highlight.baie dankie Oom Bassie en Tannie Lourineons sal treug wees.Wessels familie.

What a beautiful Guesthouse on a farm just a few kms outside Calvina, we were only 4 people but the guesthouse can hold 9 people, very clean and tastefully decorated with old and modern style deco, big beautiful kitchen with a old dover stove and old Defy gas stove was so cool to see and an indoor braai, scullery with washing machine attached to the kitchen area, firstly the rooms are huge and each room is unique in bedding and deco absolutely loved it, the guesthouse boast two sitting areas a massive front stoep and outdoor braai area, playpark for kids and grass area right around, I thoroughly enjoyed the ladybird books collection on men and women, what classics,please check my pics for confirmation, Thanks Rolene, We will definately be back,love the peacefulness and tranquillity especially if you a city girl

Beautiful view and the most friendly owner.

We were booked to stay at Handvol Gruis first on the return, but had vehicle problems along the way. We contacted Ronelle, who immediately used her network of friends and family to help us, so we were able to continue the rest of our ride fairly easily. On our return we had a wonderful time and relaxed in the spacious, well-equipped farmhouse. The large fireplace braai on the veranda and in the kitchen makes it a winner for summer as well as winter walks.These are people who go out of their way to help total strangers, personifying rural hospitality and helpfulness. Will definitely stay there again and recommend it!

Incredibly hospitable

Lovely guest house on an old Hantam farm. Everything one can dream of for a farm holiday: horses, cattle, sheep, geese and many more. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and surrounded by peace and tranquility. Nice fireplaces, a real Aga in the kitchen and enough sleeping space for a large family. And then there are miles of mountain roads to tread your mountain bike. Springboks, divers, klipspringers and ribboats in abundance. Come and enjoy the stars and silence and experience a piece of Hantam as Louis Leipoldt described him
