Old world charm Popular food stop always clean with a traditional menu.

We stayed at the Tuishuis Saterday night. Marina was such a good, excellent host and greet us with a very big, warm smile. The house was furnished beautiful with everything you can think of and very safe and secure. We ate at the restaurant the evening, very delicious! I will suggest this place to everyone and hope to return there one day!!

Marina & Shahida make your stay so welcoming. They prepared a romantic dinner for us. Very special.

3 visit in 1 year and great place..

We felt very exploited. The hosts were friendly and made a fuss of my husbands birthday but we were charged R50 for a very very small portion of pie.

The ladies are very warm.....great welcome always and staff does their best to make guests feel like we matter. For that I am grateful and will come over and over again. The rooms are nice with beautiful antique furnishings. Safe environment too.

Lovely tourist attraction. You can spend some time in the house to have a feel how it felt to live in that house many years ago. The price for breakfast was extremely expensive for not much food. I told the girl I am banting so do not want the fruitjuice/coffee orbread and jams with the breakfast so just the 2 eggs, little sausage,bacon, 1/4 tomatofor R95 would be good, then she came back and ask me if she can give me a skilpadjie and I said yes, that would be nice. Afterwords she charge me another R18 on that R95!!!! R113 for such an empty plate of food. I thought she wanted to give me the skilpadjie in the place of the food I left out. My husband took everything and even his plate was empty. Normally restaurants put on chips/mushrooms to make the plate fuller and a bit of cheese would also have been nice with.

Warm, very welcoming and wonderful hospitality with a beautiful setting made my impromptu stay at the Hantam Huis very pleasurable. Marina and her team are experts in making one feel quite at home and comfortable. Delicious food and such charm and character set in a truly interesting historic environment.The breakfast / brunch is a must if passing through en route WC to NC. Forget the Picketberg and Klawer quick food options. Take time out and experience the fried eggs, I telling you.Not to mention the lamb pie for lunch. Yum.I left with some delicious “tuis kombuis” preserves and lots of other bric a brac and country goods for in view for sale.

Quaint and peaceful oasis stopover. We stopped for breakfast on our way to the Kgalagadi. Sat in their little garden, just so peaceful and restful after being on the road. Delicious home cooked hearty breakfast. Attractive surroundings inside and out. Clean and homely Highly recommended.

Best venison pie in the world

Such a big variety of gifts and karoo things to buy!!! Love the preservation of old things! The doll set up of an old age scene was a bit freaky and strange...but educational. Found some good products to share with my family!!! From rusks to soaps to herbs and books etc! Worth the visit!!

We went here twice, we enjoyed the breakfast alot. Their breakfast is served with a variety of extras, jams and sauces, all home made. The eggs are fresh from the farm and the bacon cooked to perfection. They offer a wide variety of home made products to take home with you, even a souvenir or two. Definitely worth a visit!

So enjoyed our lunch in this quirky old world atmosphere. Great to photograph.

Stopped at the Hantam Huis for lunch while exploring Calvinia. The shop is interesting, and you can buy all sorts of kitchen enamel-ware.For lunch we had the chicken and springbok pies, the former was OK, but the latter was really good. The coffee is also very good.This is probably the best place to have lunch in the area.

We stopped in because it looked like the best place to stop for lunch while driving through town while on a road trip to the Northern Cape. Its an interesting historical home and curio shop to browse. The cafe served a tasty springbok pie and it turned out to be a unique and memorable place to stop.

A lovely place to stop on route to Cape Town or just travelling through the Karoo. A must try is the Sheeps Pie, a true delight. The Hantam Huis is a trip down memory lane in South African History. Treat yourself the next time around you pass through Calvinia and have breakfast, lunch or dinner with the ladies of Hantam Huis. Places like these are much appreciated and far to rare.

Revisiting my roots amd the first visit back to Calvinia in many years. A warm welcome awaited us at the Hantam Huis. Enjoyed a refreshing Rooibos Milkshake and Spingbok Pie. 5 Stars for me.

The building is old and authentic and this alone makes it worth to visit. The food and service was good.
